I love animal figures and I love articulation- I missed out on the NECA Dawn-Planet-Apes line and toy stores say they haven't gotten them since the film came out. Scalper prices for Caesar and Maurice, Koba and Luca.
There's a Takara Tomy Koba and Caesar which look good.
Nobody is making nice articulated Chimp/Ape figures besides gorilla/Kong figures?
Does anyone here own the NECA Ape figures and how are they? I wish I had gotten them at the time. Ape Figures. Ape figures!

The articulation was a bit limited on the Apes figures, but they were nontheless really damn good for the time. Luca is well deserved as a sought after figure. Though any of the neca Kongs have kind of surpassed it in articulation nowadays.

I have Luca, Maurice, warpaint Koba, and warpaint Caesar. Like >>10176658 said they’re a product of their time in terms of engineering but awesome sculpt and paint. Luca and Maurice can barely knuckle-walk, and the latter is currently the best articulated orangutan figure out there. Hopefully with the upcoming ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ that is supposed to come out in ‘24 Neca might get the license again and use the recent Kong as a reference model for doing ape articulation now. Would have loved to get a Bad Ape in snow gear, and Donkey could have just been a Luca retool (Winter too), but alas, War got nothing. I have the Tomy Koba. Sculpt and paint are not as good as Neca’s but the range of motion is better (he can kinda knuckle-walk). Only gripe is the yaoi-hands they gave him and Caesar.

Tell me more bro... I want warpaint Koba and Caesar so badly! They would look perfect with my current diorama setups. Wow I am really wishing for all of wave 1 and 2 for NECA apes and Tomy Koba and Caesar.

Ebay only has them for a million freaking dollars. Garage sales or something?

I've bought from them before, they've gotten me my stuff both times so they are trustworthy. It's just up to you if you feel like spending the money and shipping.

Beyond that, yes, see if you have any local toy shops and just start looking around. Check Craig's List, etc. The problem with eBay is everyone is on there to make "big bucks" and so they think everything they have is gold.

First off, don’t expect modern Marvel Legends-tier articulation for the POTA reboot figures, Caesar and Koba included. Both can just barely do 90 deg elbow and knee bends and wrists/ankles are just ball-sockets with no hinges. Posing will be stiff compared to the recent Neca Kong, so be mindful of that. As for prices, warpaint Caesar can be had on eBay for >$20usd loose, shotgun Caesar starts at $50 and up. Warpaint Koba starts at $90 and machinegun Koba even higher, and Maurice and Luca are all above $100 loose. Keep an eye on listings though. On occasion you get some OBO sales you can haggle down due to being loose or missing an accessory. eBay is where I got all my Ape stuff, but they were also years ago. You might get lucky with Facebook marketplace, so give it a look too.

Thanks bros. Gonna pull the trigger on war paint Caesar. I wish for the Hiya/tomy Koba but he’s nowhere to be found. Yeah, I’m resigned to my fate of never getting Maurice, Luca, or either of wave 2 Caesar and Koba. I’m really looking for the war paint variants because they would look good in my primal earth diorama (gonna hopefully have apes and ape men alongside dinosaurs and mammoths). I wish that these toy lines continued or that another company could just produce a bunch of Dawn figures. I’m getting an Amazon gift card from a relative so I might just use that for war paint Caesar. Dang it, I wish I could get the Hiya Koba. I love Koba and Caesar so much especially in war paint, so I don’t mind the 2014 NECA tier articulation.
Thanks so much for your input, bros. If you have any ideas for getting the more articulated Hiya ‘Rise’ figures I’m all ears, but I think my next move is Amazon war paint Caesar. Do you guys enjoy owning any of the apes? Do you also have a fondness for the characters themselves? Rise and Dawn were movies my friend really loved before he died in 2014, so I have this huge nostalgic love for Rise and Dawn. Thank you guys a bunch I am curious if you love these figures and which is your favorite (out of NECA or hiya/Tomy(?). Really appreciate the input.

This is kinda my diorama idea except with Hammond Collection dinosaurs in the background and I would like to get a cheap anime girl figma or something for the woman. Ape men are so awesome, especially if you’re a fan of fossil animals like Hominins AND Robert E Howard’s ‘Spear and Fang’ or Frank Frazetta ape men artwork
Warpaint Caesar will be amazing for this, and I wish warpaint Koba was available. Could someone ‘review’ any of these figures for me, please? I love them so much and I’d love to hear your thoughts on them!

Thank you. I found warpaint Caesar on Amazon. Ughhh I want Koba! Does anyone here have the NECA apes and want to share thoughts? I think they’re beautiful but I’ve yet to get them in hand. Would they scale okay with 1/18 dinosaurs? They seem pretty huge

Series 1 is better than series 2 with the exception of Luca being the best Gorilla figure I've seen. Maurice is, without question, the best Orangutan figure ever.

The Neca apes are 7”-scale (roughly 1/9 scale) so unless your Maurice is doubling for a 1/18 Gigantopithecus or Caesar/Koba is standing in for Meganthropus, they’ll be rather big alongside 1/18 dinos.
