Is it time to downsize? Is it even possible when the IRS is cucking all 600 dollar and above transactions? I like toys a lot but I don't think I will be able to fulfill my dream of having a nice little house with a room for all my toys

I'm a little worried what this means. I know about the 600 dollar limit, but what happens when you go above it? I was unemployed this year for physical reasons, but selling stuff on eBay alone net me around $2,000. I hope there's not hell to pay later on.

You’ll have to pay taxes on the money you made. If you made money, it was still worth it because if you’re selling toys because you’re barely getting by, I doubt you’re in a bracket where they’ll tax you too much. Also, if you have receipts of purchased, that will also help. I have a spreadsheet made with shipping costs and receipts for stuff I did have.

If you made 2000, you'll pay roughly $300. You could pay a whole lot less, maybe even get money back, but only if you saved your receipts. Didn't save your receipts? Tough shit, and that's why everyone hates this new law.

You basically need to treat your ebaying as a business. So displaying shit in your house counts as a home office (tax write off). Those trips to hunt for toys? Gas and car mileage are a write off. Money spent on toy? deduction. Money spent to ship to to you? Another deduction. Years spent on your shelves? Another deduction. Took a trip to convention and bought shit there? It was a business trip and another reduction. Money spent on shipping supplies? Time spent on ebay and packing shit? cost of shipping? So many reductions.
Most people shouldn't pay jack shit for ebaying because of all this stuff, but it's a bitch for 99% of people to properly do and most can't, because they didn't save their receipts.

I don't handle my own taxes and i don't want to stumble over my half assed knowledge to remember the actual terms for this, but shit laying on your shelf that you sold was your unsold stock for X amount of years and how much you pay yourself for the time spent creating the listing, taking photos, packaging it, and shipping it should be no less than minimum wage and no more than what a CEO makes. If you want to be honest about it, you'd have to write down your hours and charge yourself however much your current job pays you per hour (or equivalent based on salary).

Seriously, this shit can be pretty complicated that you don't want to do it yourself and if you made $2000, it probably isn't even worth the accountant... which is also another deduction, if you do use one.

You're not going to get audited over something like $2000. The audit alone would cost the IRS more then they'd get back from you. You don't get audited unless you make over $100k a year. Anyone making less than that isn't worth the time and effort the IRS would put into an audit.

Although, that was before the Biden administration pushed for MASSIVE increases to the amount of IRS workers this past year. So maybe you're right going forward that with this increased work force, they'll more openly enagage with smaller descrepemcies like you describe.
