The old Datsunbots and G1 carbots in general had good proportions (animation models). All the ROTB carformers are 70% chest which is displayed next to stick limbs. It looks like ass. Not to mention every single car bot we've seen save for Mirage now has the same fucking bumper chest. I despised bayformers for numerous reasons, but they were at least creative with alt mode kibble. Especially the toy only stuff from DOTM and earlier.

Because the Bay movies sold more than Bumblebee. I bet you want them to cater to G1 fans,right? Why should they? Kids who grew up with G1 (1984-87, when it was most relevant) are an aging, small niche at this point. A 7 year old(target audience) who started watching in 84 would be 45 by now. its not even a matter of "sharing G1 with their kids) because that generation should've have their kids in their late 20's/early 30's if they're ever gonna have kids. There's some outliers, sure, but most people don't have kids under 7 as a 45 year old man. The ship has sailed on the G1 generation having kids.Its more likely for kids who grew up with the UT to be having kids now. And they're not as autistically attacked with keeping things like the UT.
Bumblebee movie should've happened 15 years ago if it was ever gonna catch on.

Hasbro budget only allowed for a slight remold. Takara sprung for a complete remold. Since Hasbro didn't pony up for the Takara tooling they were stuck with what they originally planned.

It should be noted this whole era ended up not being really profitable for takara to the point we're at the point we are now, where they just release Hasbro's versions of the toys.

I don't think Takara is as rigidly GenWun as 80's manchildren. They seem to go all in on these new designs, even more than the US.
They get Headmasters and Pretenders? They make a whole series that revolves around them, kill of Optimus Prime AGAIN, then make a few whole new leaders.

Oh I get that too, this isn't what I'd want from a Wheeljack. At the same time, I'm not sure if I'd buy if it was another G1 Wheeljack myself. Thats sort of why I haven't bought any Bumblebee movie stuff- I have Classics versions of those characters, MP versions, the modern generations are available too, and back in the day I thought energon downshift was a perfect update. I'm a bit burnt out. still, it does seem weird to only partly homage G1/BW faithfully and then randomly nameslap Wheeljack on a completely different loving design.

Still, I do feel like part of my enjoyment of these movies is seeing how HasTak interprets these designs. So I might just get this nerd. Cars before 1980 are something woefully lacking in Transformers, too. Hell, even late 90's vehicles are lacking in representation because that was the beast era. So its funny this movie sort of fills in for both.

Well that's the character. His default character model stance is based on his box art, which had him bent kneed so his "standing around" pose in the show is always a bit rickets. The Japanese dub even gave him old man mannersims, which you can even see in the Japan only PS2 game.

People are mad because it looks like Wheeljack is being singled out by the movie designers for no real reason. Most every other character looks like how you would expect, at least somewhat, and then you have Wheeljack looking nothing at all like himself. Good, let this one flop just like age of extinction and the last knight then. Not that everything has to be G1 but the most exciting thing for me was seeing the autobots actually look like autobots in the bumblebee movie rather than trash monsters with human faces so sue me.

I for one will not be supporting this film, what made bumblebee great was the small intimate cast of 4 transformers and a chance to really make them something more than quips and nonsensical dialogue exposition boxes.

The cast of this movie was already fine at the 5 autobots and 3 terrorcons, but throw in all the rest and what seems to be a Michael bay flurry of explosions battle and I'm out

The new announced waves really don't look like anything even remotely interesting in any regard, and Inferno cost me fifty fucking dollars because of how shit my country's economy is, plus these massive price hikes. For a figure objectively worse in every regard than voyagers from only 2 years ago that were ten bucks less.
It's fucking depressing as shit, man. I've been trying to tell myself that mainline will get better for the last 2 years and it's only been getting worse. Praying the remaining ROTB stuff looks mildly interesting or SS picks back up.

Deathsaurus is a considerably harder sell purely because I have the MMC one waiting for pickup right now. I was going to wait and see how he scales and looks together in photos before pulling the trigger, but I cannot express how fucking mad I am that this thing has so many QC problems. Considering just sanding the gold paint off and painting it myself. I can vaguely cope with QC on mainline releases, but this acting as my "do I still want to bother with this line anymore", and being so woefully disappointed?

They didn't make any new models though they were all cobbled together from parts of Bumblebee, Shatter, Dropkick or Blitzwing with some retexturing. That scene was a very last minute addition to the film.

It's very clearly an older design, seeing as they tabled him back when Overlord came out, but I prefer it. I like Brave proportions in my giant robots, and as much as the QC is dogshit on the Haslab VS, my only complaint about him besides that is his proportions could be more heroic. Part of me is tempted to get the most recent 3p offering since it has said proportions.

I can't say the MMC Deathsaurus has Brave proportions at all though. The massive arms kill that aspect. The haslab has some issues (the thighs look a bit scrawny to me) but overall it feels more Japanese than MMC.

What is it with all the doomposting about the movie? I'm just confused, barely anything of the movie has even been shown; just a few action scenes, and we barely know the plot. Primal and Wheeljack seem a bit lame for my tastes but that's about all I can say other than "the action scenes look fun." But the thing is, Okawara or not, so much of what defines the heroic, Brave look of classic JP mecha is the legs being proportionately heavy to the robot. The big gorilla arms on MMC just kill that effect.

The weakest parts of the whole set are these guys. Their legs are held on solely by the power of prayer. This is my third version of the Fire mold and it is somehow the worst. The paint for his hands is nice but they, once again, didn't bother with the fake wheels and his ladder-turret just falls out.

I honestly think Haslab Star Saber is the first time a mainline figure has ever felt like a genuine upgrade over an MP in pretty much every way. It feels more more solid all around (the MP was like 4 boxes and a seat strung together by friction joints), has way better options for holding his accesories, Saber actually feels like a toy you can play with, and it's actually designed to be able to combine with a Victory Leo.

I think basically my only complaint toward the new Star Saber is the lack of that double outward shoulder joint, we have the technology for better shoulder joints than that. I also think a second forearm swivel beneath the elbow would be pretty useful but you can live without that.

Hey if the writing is on par with 07, then hell yeah that's all I can really ask for. At this point I'd just be going for the action and spectacle, which I'm really just hoping are on par with 07 and RotF; their special effects were fantastic, and came from a time where CGI could make good robots BUT the industry wasn't relying on CG to literally make entire sets/locations and explosions; the vast majority of them were real special effects and real locations.
Bumblebee was able to keep that level of quality for its action scenes by, well firstly not having many to begin with, but also having them be pretty small-scale fights. As long as RotB isn't going to be a 100% CGI snoozefest a la modern Marvel, and as long as the writing isn't offensively bad or boring, I think I'll be satisfied. Here's hoping, at least.

I realized a couple things fucking around with this guy: 1. You have to take off his backpack to move his arms up or down because of the shoulder clearance. 2. He needs a way bigger sword. Please excuse the crudity of the model, but thats about 2.3x blade length.

I'm assuming you're trying to make the point that RotB Wheeljack isn't G1 Wheeljack and so people shouldn't be upset over him being different, like how BW Silverbolt is not G1 Silverbolt. But you're either ignoring or forgetting we already saw him in the Bumblebee movie, where he did look like G1 Wheeljack, and all his Autobot buddies in RotB look at least somewhat close to their G1 looks. You would have more of a point if the BW cast were mostly designed after the G1 cast and Silverbolt was an outlier in being totally different.

they each had exactly one piece of stock footage for things they could do on their own. Tricera had a big tail with cannons that could arch over his back, and tank treads for tough terrain. Sabertooth had a lightning cannon on its tail, though it couldn't aim it straight forward, it didn't have to. mammoth had the ice breath coming out of the trunk, and the pteranodon had those awkward cannon feet things but I think the show wisely didn't have those clipped on during flight? I think it might have also had a weapon in front, it's BEEN a while.
but mostly they didn't do shit on their own, except the t-rex because that was actually a wearable suit. and it had one of those cool tokusatsu effects where it fires something into the ground and a series of explosions go off in a line, as if it.. dropped a subterranean missile? and it might have had horn lightning, but I think i'm confusing that with the combined form.

No serious QC, but a lot of questionable design choices. You would think with Hasbro's claim of going all out it would give you something that is just better than this.

Not saying the set is bad, but it feels like an expensive holiday special gift set.

Though, there are the problems of Leo's pinned knee being weak and the black part of the face cover would be chipped just by transformation.

With that these are back of the knees of my Saber. They are normal being all bent with the teeth? The knees are fine holding their own, but this is the first time I see this type of rachet damage for a long time. Do I need to open them to fix it or they are fine the way it is??

It's pretty frustrating because japanese companies are really good about this sort of thing. If they at least send the figure first, you could cobble together a good one out of both snd send the defective one with any other issues back.

I'm terrified I'll get a Star Saber with some issues, but is otherwise fine since Hasbro could ask for a return, which isn't guaranteed to provide a replacement (even if they have some before return) since they could easily run out. I'm doublr screwed since it takes forever to ship out packages from Puerto (Metro was estimated to arrive at a random Hasbro facility in 18 fucking days, and its not even close despite the estimated date being in two days).

i got Forbidden Planet NYC to send me replacements for some broken turtle figures recently, and I was ready to do some parts-swapping if anything was flawed on the new ones. I had my SS86 Hot Rod posed with those blue effect parts up for a while now and so I decided to change it up. How is this one better? The MP version had articulated wrists, a properly-sized sword to use, actual landing gear in his alt-mode, a much nicer cockpit, and his face did the animation thing where it shoots up from his torso when you close his chest door. yeah waist, ab joint, better leg articulation in general, better designed shoulder joints, all that stuff. Haslab does have wrist swivels too, better ones in fact because there isn't a flap blocking them from turning if he's holding something.

A sculpted cockipit and real landing gear would have been nice to have but that alone doesn't make the toy. Also the brainmaster mechanism worked like crap in the MP, and wasn't even really accurate either since the face wasn't on the brainmaster, so I guess there's a bit of a trade off depending on what part of the brainmaster you want to be accurate (MP for the mechanism, Haslab for the face).

I also really wish they could've figured some way to get the kinda crest thing his legs do in the cartoon, even if it meant partsforming. I'm honestly just much more pissed that, like Tigatron, he has no weapon integration into the alt-mode. Like the legs fitting into the abdomen causes more kibble and a considerably less functional bot-mode. What the fuck is wrong with the guy designing the later BW stuff? I kind of feel that way about this guy in the first place to be honest. I would have rathered Skyquake be pure G2 and separate from Prime Skyquake. Its not really fair that g1 gets pure g1 then we finally get a Prime/G2 guy its a weird fusion that hasnt really happened before.

I do think it looks really good though.

Playing with thing I am getting the feeling that Hasbro should be able to make another Victory saber in a smaller scale just fine. All they need is to skip the brain master thing and the smaller jet. Have star saber just by itself.

I hate the unecessary fake parts (ant abdomen and shin ant legs) and the "realistic" ant head, looks more cartoony almost like if it was from fisher price toy, the original toy ant head looked way cooler in both modes, the only upgrades are the headsculpt, wrist swivels and ankle rockers.

Legacy Inferno's alt mode does not look like the ant it is supposed to look like. It does not look like the original toy. It does not look like the show's alt-mode. It's legs are unarticulated chunks of horribly misshapen and non-anatomically accurate fuck to sate some retard designer's inability to make it stand under its own weight, which carries into some of the worst kibble in robot mode I've ever seen, which is considerably worse than the original toy. They both look like shit in alt-mode but the new one has 30 years of engineering advancements on it and still can't make something that's accurate to anything or good as an actual toy you handle.
Why the fuck are people going to bat for this piece of shit when it's the same tier as Rhinox or Scorponok?
