So with our 19th Groupbuild coming to a close, we now approach the 20th. Since it's a bit of a milestone and I've been running these for a little over 6 years now, I felt that we should do something a little special this time around. Instead of the typical structure of taking ideas from the posters ITT and polling them to decide what theme to do for the next few months, we're going to have something I'm gonna call the "Groupbuild Groupbuild". The rules are as follows:
>Have a build that you never got to finish for a previous groupbuild? Only started building recently and sad you missed out on a theme from 4-5 years ago? Now's an opportunity to get that build done!
>Your build must conform to at least one of the previous 19 Groupbuild themes and the rules of that groupbuild, though you can mix together elements of other past groupbuilds (ie: a Melee Zaku or a mecha musume sniper)
>You must detail what theme(s) your build is going for when you submit your build.
>You can't submit a touched-up version of a previous groupbuild entry, but you can build something that fits alongside your past build (ie: a 2nd squad member for an entry to the GM groupbuild or a mid-season upgrade/powered up version of the same suit) so long as you showcase both the old and new builds in a few photos.

Seems weird to discuss this outside of the Digimon thread, but I very much appreciate how the last few Amplified releases are pretty close to the regular designs, just 'amplified' a bit. The earlier releases were cool enough, but the designs were a bit over the top, and I appreciate them looking more like the source material. It also lets them look better together with the Standard kits (and vice versa, and also gives them a nice sense of differing scale).

These look so cool but after building Galantmon I don't feel compelled to try anymore of them. They feel too light and flimsy for their size, but I can see why since a lot of Digimon have lanky limbs that would be hard to add heft to without them being hard to balance.

It's pretty common for the currently airing TV series to get 2 releases a month while it's airing. I know for sure it's been like that since back when 00 was airing, not sure about SEED/Destiny. And like the other anon said, IBO was rife with add-on packs as well, and we've only got 3 (4 if you count the effect display set) of those so far. Unfortunately for HGUCfags that line has been slowing down for a long time now, I remember when Build shit was getting popular they were shitting those out even when nothing was airing, and then The Origin pretty much took over the bulk of UC releases.

I just "finished" building Megami Device Alice and I'm left with a ton of parts that 100% aren't spares but aren't mentioned in the instructions either. Are they like just customization pieces meant for screwing around with/combining with other models, or am I missing something? Asking cuz disassembling them is kinda impossible, so better ask a possibly retarded question than to screw up a ton of parts by assembling them wrong.

I'm looking at the instructions and aside from the intended spares like F4 J1, it says the grayed-out parts are unused for this kit.

Usually when plamo makers do this, they are reusing a previous mold, then adding the new parts on new runners.

I didn't know that, only built 3 gundams so far and all 3 used all their parts. It makes sense tho, it said this model was based on the "witch" one from before and the weird parts match the armor and hat. I think I might even be able to make the whole hat and armour from them, nice. It had enough parts for extra bare feet and feet in stockings parts, so this is a nice bonus.

Just finished the Gundam Helios.

That's the one draw back, they seem to be one of the last to get stock. USA Gundam Store had ChuChu trainer and generic Dilzana last week and NewType was just getting the 1-4 kits.

For some reason I brought this

I got no ideas how to proceed with this kit. I want to keep the main body and adding some part to the arms and legs for better range of movements. I also want to avoid the old hard against hard plastic joints along with seamless assembly.

Do I need to rebuild the thing with plastic rod and sheet for the internal joints? Or should I get some magnet and make everything limb joints magnet based instead?

From how hollow it is, doing things internally wouldn't be too bad at all and may make it more sturdy.
The same channel also has a vid where a Gyan around the same era as this kit is fixed up by gutting an EG Gundam
So that may be another option if you have one onhand.

Pretty much, just do whatever with the stuff you have on hand. It's an old ass kit, it's going to need work.

the result is a mixed bag. some parts are super tightly fit compared to the original Bandai that you might break them off, so you need to sand them down, some are tight fit on where it counts(sub-arms, limbs) so its alright)

but overall, it can hold up the weapons better than the original Bandai

I regularly used pour types before switching to Tamiya on literally everything. I've only ever had one piece break. Pieces don't break because you used pour types or Tamiya on them, they break because the paint pooled on the piece. Panel line the pieces before assembly, don't let it form large pools (drops here and there aren't going to hurt it) and you'll be fine.

Thats good to know, thanks for the info anon. Only other bootleg ive built was Supernova's MG Heavy arms and It basically had the same issue with tight fits, had to cut quite a few pieces down so they would fit. Thunderbolt looks great, I was suprised at the big ass sheet of waterslides it came with, really should be standard for all MG kits.

the thing here is that there's rarely any ABS "detail" parts that needs to be panel lined as it's mostly used for mechanisms and such, so pour type is mostly safe.
afaik pour type is 100% safe on PS plastic.

tamiya has clear red and blue, but not sure if a very light coat of blue is going to make it too desaturated, probably will if you want something super deep and saturated.

No, unless there is a brand of spray paint that I don't know about that makes clear pink. You can spray a light coat of clear red, it won't be pink but it will be somewhat close.

Less setup than airbrush, but you still need some containers and some sticks and it will take a few tries to figure out how to mix it without making bubbles and how much pigment to add. And of course you will need to learn how to make molds and that will take a couple tries too.

It's not EZ mode, all I'm saying that you are more likely to get the outcome you want with recasting than with handbrushing clear coats.
The actual proper way to get what you want is airbrushing of course and even that would require some practice, but not nearly as much as handbrushing.

Went on an absolute snapping spree this month. With my kits pre-ordered on HLJ I'll be waiting for at least 2 months of releases before I get any more in, so I have plenty of time to do work on these. Definitely not giving them all a full paint job. Thinking Lfrith, Beguir-Beu, Aerial, and Darilbalde might get the works. Also strongly considering giving the Mirasoul Flight pack to Lfrith and giving it a white/pink scheme to match. I think I saw someone post that some generic WfM decals are supposed to be releasing early next year? Gonna have to look for those and see if there's any I'd like to use.

If you already have a pair of spn 120 you can probably make do using a cheaper Chinese single bladed nippers for the big gate cuts

I have PN 120s and they work fine for both cuts mainly because paying over 100AUD for spn 120s is way too much

I didn't find the shield but I did dig up this

I remembered I got it from big lot around 2005

I thought the yellow spots are bacteria growth, but it turns out they are just plastic yellowing. I guess it can't be help after almost 19 years.

I find it amazing that I can still find the thing selling at my local hobby shop.
Though looking at the thing I wonder if they updated the tooling. The flashes and over injection (is that even a term?) of the plastic were bad even in 2005. The AbS plastic also don't work as well as the new soft ps plastic

Still overall, it was and is still a nice little kit
Should I get another copy of it?

I realize that I made the mistake way after, and admittedly I was rushing through it a bit since I got off at 7:30 this morning and spent about 6 and a half hours throwing gunpla together. Cutting is almost always going to leave a mark. Best way is to leave a short nub and sand it down or use a glass file.

I'd be open to a trade or sale. I'm looking for a still boxed Power Rangers Lightning Collection Tommy Green Ranger, White Ranger and White Ninja Ranger. He's the only one I'm missing to both my Ninja and my Mighty Morphin teams and I cant find him anywhere. Its driving me nuts.

Do they still make these? Is it hard to come by? Not really sure current market value. Like I said, I'd be good with a trade for action figures, or if you wanna just shoot me a fair priced offer. I don't wanna rip anyone off overcharging for a hard to get kit, but also would ask folks not to try and take advantage lowballing me. Just shoot reasonable offer. I'll toss in one of those stands with the figure too
