In the past month I got back into Lego since my childhood. As a car guy I love these speed champion sets, most notably the ones after 2020 when they became 8 stud bases. Currently have 5 other SC coming in from the Lego store. Have boughten 3 retired sets from eBay (in pic). I’m going to try and build a display case/shelf for them out of wood and maybe some other materials. Looking forward to spending more time on this board and building!

Ah yes, a fellow man of culture. The Quattro is easily my favourite so far. The boxiness is replicated so nicely and even though it has decals, it looks great.
The GTR in the back of my of my other post, I have ordered parts to build it like pic related. I found it out on a forum and it gets rid of all the printed/stickers parts for a clean nismo look.
I also can’t wait for my Ford set to arrive. I didn’t think I would like the Bronco because I tried to be a car elitist when I started my collection, but it has grown in me, so it should arrive this week. Will sit outside my display case as a desk piece.
Got any more pics of your collection? Easily my favourite set too.

i think that's what a lot of us are gonna do anyways, plus ebay fags will triple the price range to more than 150 dollars likely.

but it wouldn't hurt to try. was gonna originally find the instructions and slowly gather the pieces through bricklink or other means.

I am new to the hobby. I might have been just opening things without thinking, but do bags inside of bags have numberings as well? This has happened twice with this set and the tree house. I will follow the instructions but constantly have extra pieces until a certain step. I am fairly sure that some bags that are labeled "Step 1" inside also have "Step 13" and I just retardedly open them up without thinking. Even then I feel a lot of steps have extra parts related to future steps, and I hate that. I really would prefer it to be clean as finish step 1 and all parts are used, then step 2.

Side question. I am HYPER anal about sitckers. I did my best but some are slightly off and my heart hurts. Is there a good way to take stickers off without ruining them? Or perhaps buying a new set and trying again. Most are just like 2% off, but my brain knows it isn't perfect. Two of the stickers on this set do not even go all the way around the object and has a gap, there is nothing I can do about it, but I will lose sleep on it. Even though I did my best to hide it, I know it's there.

I know I'm a fag for saying this but I think the major flaw with avatar was with the oversized eyes they had same for those early clone wars sets too. I think that if lego made something based on anime, the minifigs should just have regular eyes like how new clone wars sets based the show no longer have the big ass eyes, which is much more appealing.

Nah you're pretty right. Anime Lego to work has to be like ships/mechs because otherwise nobody wants generic anime building unless it's really quirky like Monkie Kid. I could see Gundam, Gurren, Code Geass, and whatever working but shonen no because kids want full range of motion and detail.

Absolute dumb ass idea but if Lego is looking to dip their toes into anime I would propose My hero academia. Now hear me out it's popular and it has superhero's for the kids and teens, and addressing some concerns about it would be "what about Mineta and Midnight ?" and I'd say that lego has made explicitly "sexy" minifigures in the past with slave/hutt slayer Leia and Oola(who wears nothing but a fishnet leotard) and Lego has also made a set based on people whose entire personality is based on sex (see fab five loft) and then there's the issue of Bakugo telling Deku to kill him self and lego has figures based on even more violent and adult individual's like Deadpool and Punisher. And since Lego DC is just one year away from being retired I propose this a replacement theme.

So far I really like it. Just wish for the price point, stickers wouldn't be a thing. On top of that I like the feeling of do X, then do Y. Everything is used, move onto step 2. If you think I am anal about stickers with Lego... I used to collect G1 Transformers. Repro labels were my best friends. Luckily my toys were all from flea markets, if I fucked up the stickers of my OG toys like the used ones, I would hate myself with the fire of 1000 suns.

Great collection anon. The F8 is a fun build, there are some cool build techniques with the curved bits on the front and rear. The F40 is also a classic, I would’ve got that and the Porsche 911 but the 6 stud cars just don’t do it for me.

The initial promo images for the forestman and lion castle sets both looked like stickers as well. I dont remember galaxy explorer specifically but I bet those leaks would have been sticker esque as well.

Do you see Lego ever making something like this? Even with these overkill specs the microcontroller is $1, same price as the 0.42 inch screen. If it's possible in this ridiculously small size it can work fine on a larger 4x3 or 6x5 panel.

Cobi and Mega Costrux only use prints because their fans lack imagination.
On the other hand AFOLs (adult fan of lego) realize the importance of stickers in 500$ sets.
The beauty of stickers is that even when you put them on, they fall of by themself eventually, which lets you reuse the parts in MOCs (my own creation)

Can't go wrong with a series of ziploc bags Russian nesting doll style.

Example: a gallon ziploc bag, and inside are sandwich bags for each different type of hinge pieces. If you need a hinge, you just grab the hinge bag and pull out the smaller bag with the specific type of hinge you need.

Generally, the best method is to sort by type, not by color. I have my 1x1 round studs sorted into color families (blues and purples, greens and browns, reds and oranges, etc.) but almost everything else is sorted by type.

Same, I just smaller craft bags into larger ziplock bags. Type I go plates, bricks, mod bricks, mod plates, etc, I then use larger bins to sort overall by color. Black, White, Red, etc.

The Bone Demon Mech is a cool set, lot of play value and comes with a nice, very posable mini mech for MK as a sidebuild.

The actual Monkey King Mechs are cool for display but they're not that posable. If you want a large humanoid mech that is posable, playable and looks good, get either Zane's Titan, Samurai X or the upcoming Jay's Titan.
Bonus points if you like ya animay, cuz Zane's Titan is Gunman and Jay's is an EVA.

God what an arduous build, and i still have one bag left, it’s been like three days,

The main idea is that they will sit tilted rather than flat on all 4 wheels.

That Castle set that came with a green dragon and a bunch of BURP/LURPs. As a kid, it struck me as a very lazy set design because it was just the big rock pieces with a portcullis and the very minimum amount of other pieces to make it resemble a structure.

I took it apart immediately but enjoyed owning the dragon and all the big rock pieces afterward.

I've got a fire truck from 2005 and every ratchet is broken. Bionicle had problems with lime sockets, 2007. I also have a little off-roader with all the bushings cracked, but I think the problem are the axles.
These things happen sometimes to some molds or colors or types of plastic, and happens to other companies and toys, Transformers has the gold plastic syndrome. May be a bad batch, may be an experimental new mix.

I can put the pirate thing together today. I'm going to make a spot for it in my barracuda bay set either that or I'm going to make a pirate bar/store and put it out front. I bought 3 of the 3 in 1 pirate ships and haven't done anything with the parts aside from dump them all in a giant tote.

Thanks guys, I'll try to take some pics closer to the new year's. I have to say, I went on a bit of a spending spree and bought later on the teal telehandler and the skid steer loader as well. I will also try to pick up the upcoming snowcat and dump truck releasing in january. Still have my eyes peeled on that 42146 liebherr though, hoping that it will be worth it's price

Default is the best. Render using GPU if you have one. Simple options to look for are transparent or colored background, image size, and camera rotation and perspective.
UV degradation adds sun bleaching for a less uniform and more aged look, scratches add lines and dents to bricks. These look best on old sets and retired colors, but too many scratches and it looks like shit. Always keep stud logo on.
There's special renderer colors for bricks at the bottom, these glow or illuminate the scene for a prettier render. Also while it can do very realistic results, it's limited by the quality of the bricks' models. If you are doing small builds or zoom in too much the low-poly elements will show, specially visible in arms and helmets and circles.

Looks like it's using this piece attached to a modified brick to hold it in place using friction. Not a 100% secure fit, but probably secure enough to hold it in place without it falling off the moment you pick it up.

They solved the "fucking disintegrates on touch" issue.
The "cracks on its own after a while since the parts can't handle the stress of being connected" problem still persists.

A while ago I posted a moc made from that Yoshi's House where a giant Yoshi is touching a Fuzzy which was like what, a month or two ago.
I built it back shortly afterwards and didn't touch it since then.
Now half of the tan 1-stud wide pieces developed cracks on their sides and there are VERY noticeable edges between the pieces (you can see how it formed some "steps" on the side pointing up) since it literally tears the pieces apart.

I actually tested something out and there definitely IS a difference between new and old bricks.
Take a new simple 1x1 brick, put it on a stud, grip it gently with two fingers and lightly rotate it around on the stud - something forces the brick off as if there is something wrong with the geometry or material and you can definitely feel the stress behind the connection.
Now do the same with an old one (and I mean something like 90s and older) - the brick rotates in place and nothing forces it off.

Where do you guys get your bricks for MOCs (YOCs?)? I decided to finally try and build something on my own, disassembled my 2020(or 19?) Star Wars advent calendar but I ran out of pieces. I have some unopened boxes but I kinda feel bad about just taking away a few pieces from a whole set or repurposing it fully since the original builds from LEGO are all so nice too. Do you guys first project your builds in some software then order the bricks on bricklink, or buy a bunch of random ones then build as you see fit?

This upcoming wave of has an abundance of those red half pins with friction, which makes technic-system connections less shaky than with the blue/gray ones that can rotate inside the pinholes. Monster Jam showed they'd use the red friction pins when *rotation* was a factor, like to keep the shark teeth from spinning, but now we're seeing those red pins with *every* technic-system connection. For example, that tiny dump truck we're both excited for has at least 6 of them simply to hold the fenders on, and the Bugatti Bolide has god-damn forty seven of em. I'm extremely excited that the technic team seems to be choosing those pins as a rule so the connections rattle less from this point on.

And yeah, I'm also hoping the gigantic liebherr crane kicks ass, even if I'm never going to consider getting it myself. The piece count isn't that high, which means there's going to be a *lot* of 15L beams. That could either be really good or really bad depending on what kind of builder buys it.

i own the very recent City mobile crane and i noticed the yellow pieces has that subtle "bootleg quality" on it. they're slightly translucent, which is kinda common with sluban or lepin bricks, and i've owned yellow pieces from the 90's sets so i know there's something different with it.

I had a good day today and on an impulse, I went into a mall on my way home to surprise myself with some sets, thing is, retail stores have really high prices compared to when buying online, for example, single speed champions cars were over 20€, but online I could get them for the equivalent of 16€ (eastern europe country). mighty lion creator set was 50, and I've seen it online for 35. I could have picked up the ObiWan Starfighter for 27, but I passed on it. well, a lego-less christmas for me, but I think I'll get some delivered after the holiday.

So here's a thing I was intending to make in smaller scale similar to the architecture desktoppers, but my autistic perfectionism has it ballooning to almost play scale and I still need to go back and widen the doorway out. It's gonna be about 50 studs wide and half that deep by my estimation, which feels enormous to me (but I have very little real world reference to go off of).
How do you guys feel about the greebly detailing on the windows and walls? I love the level of detail I can get but I feel like it will make the whole construction shaky if/when I actually build this at this big of a scale.

No original theme has ever sold anywhere near as well as the licensed themes, and as long as the marvel and harry potter cash gets them enough money to continue the higher-age creator sets I don't give a fuck what they sell to kids. Bionicle was absolutely lightning in a bottle and its not coming back; any other set you could possibly be nostalgic for will come back as an annual release at some point.

The brown walls should be stitched together in a brick pattern or in some patchwork interlocking fashion to keep the walls from coming apart. I'm not sure what your greebles are attempting to convey but they project out quite a bit and look sort of random. The steps and columns of the portico look pretty good, as well as the detail with the edges of the tan ingots on the left and right of what I assume is the entrance. Regardless of any praise or criticism it's clear you need to start touching bricks. Your piece use and construction techniques are kind of wack.

Yeah, I had some initially shaky construction going on as I was originally intending to just block out details and keep the whole thing much smaller, though now that I've accepted it's going to blow up and rebuilt the whole wall, the joining is much tighter.

Yeah, I had to go back and clean up a bit where I was letting attention to detail trump aesthetics. I think this result looks much better.

Thanks. I'm going to have to expand that area to be about as wide as one flat section of the wall for it to be proportionately correct, but getting the portico to work at all was a huge headache and I'm dreading it. The details on the side are actually just windows.

Fair enough. I don't intend to pick up any plastic crack anytime soon though and just found out Studio was a thing a few days ago so I'm treating it more like an art design tool than a legitimate lego set designer (which probably isn't helping things)

That makes more sense. Real bricks will teach you big practical lessons about the building system hard and fast, while CAD lets you get away with a lot of instable technique before catching on. I think it also makes a lot of builders that *do* intend to translate their work irl a little too "piece rich" if they don't constantly check themselves. As an art tool though - totally - go nuts. I think you've greatly improved the windows already, and replacing the long row of "plates w/ handles" with clips and longer bars is a good practical change that still looks like molding without using a million pieces.
