Was thinking about a new lego space theme idea(like if i was in charge and could make a theme for it) as a fun thought experiment so hear me out

Peaceful explorers crash land on an ice planet where they meet friendly aliens to help get their parts back so they can escape. However the planet is covered in awful weather and ice monsters.
The aliens and humans would both have VERY different vehicles that theyd be able to combine w each other.
The space explorer vehicles wouldnt be the usual military weapon style space ships but exploratory vehicles they have to repurpose to use on this planet so they dont have v good weapons and have to improvise. So you can pop the makeshift weapons off easily to have peaceful exploratory vehicles

Idk i want a new space theme v badly but id want it to be one where its not the usual aliens vs humans thing and had more exploratory vehicles.

I know this is a combo of several space themes but thats the point

Why isn't Lego doing more RDA vehicles? I want a Scorpion ship. I hope if they do a summer wave they do the remaining stuff, I think the theme will get 2 more sets in the summer or 4 and then take a pause in the 1st half of 2024 and return in the fall of 2024 for the 3rd film, they kind of made all the important stuff with these sets. The other vehicles are super big in scale and will need downsizing.

It might sound stupid but mass produced toys are basically a product of the 20th century and had their culture defining peak around the 80s/90s before being phased out by video games. So an adult still buying toys seems like a childish thing but that would be relevant if it was the 1910s to 1950s where a child puts away their pogo stick or baby doll. By the 80s and 90s kids grew up watching cartoons and movies which were definitely just ads for toys so it makes sense that psychologically there is still a fondness for toys in adulthood. Kids didn't grow up watching the Lone Ranger or some cop show and continued an interest in Westerns and police films like those early generations exposed to radio and television.

Dunno how it's going to play out for zoomers whose only form of entertainment is social media, but for the rest of us we will pretty much continue to enjoy toys as collectibles or something to fill up oure leisure time.

I've bought, cleaned, sorted, and resold enough tons of raw lego to know when ~15% of tan, dark red, dark tan, and brown 1x1 bricks/plates have a split in them that it IS in fact indicative of a problem. It's pretty sad. Even if there's an admitted vanity to purchasing marketed novelty items, at least we get an object to keep. Bonklefag but I've got a number of System shit. I'm planning out what to buy to get the bionicle GWP since it's restricted to certain themes. if this is legit i'm interested in seeing what they do for bumblebee. what I'm hoping for is that he's a g1 style 'bee who's smaller than optimus, and includes a spike minifigure since that's the only thing that felt conspicuously absent from that set.
also, it'd be cool if they did a soundwave at some point, hopefully with at least one cassette. megatron or starscream would also be neat but i don't think lego would do those since they have their rule about not doing real-life military stuff.

also, my bet is that one of the two classic sets is bionicle related since that, castle, and space have received the most attention recently. the other one could be pirates but since that got an 18+ set recently my guess is it'll be a new version of fort legoredo, similar to the lion knights castle

If you're going out of the way to buy sets solely for their constraction pieces, you'd be much better off hitting up bricklink and getting an abundance of only the pieces you need. This is especially the case for you because technic and constraction elements are extremely cheap. Don't spend $100 on retail lego just for some shitty mixel tahu. It's really not worth it, even if you're nostalgic. All the pieces are so retardedly common you can just build your own once it releases and the inventory is known. Repeat: mixel tahu, not worth $100, do not buy.

Good point. To be fair my original thought was to just donate the sets and use the excuse to get Tahu directly without having to wait. Bricklink is such a shitshow of getting those rachet joints and other parts in decent quantities, at least that's been my impression.

Be careful, Bowser is a good enough set he might just go up in value. If you buy used that's obviously not a problem but I have the suspicion that being the best Mario set so far (and likely for a loooong time), the extremely finished look of the model, and the ingenious play features will leave it unmatched for a long time and demand will remain pretty high. Brand recognition directly affects resale value and a brand like Mario has absolutely no expiration date. If you do definitely want it, it would probably make a good contender to get you up to that GWP threshold.

Unfortunately the current offerings for expensive technic aren't very good - for example the material handler is MSRP $150 even though it has UNDER HALF of the pieces of the kit it's replacing at that same exact MSRP. It's only priced that way to get ahead of fags pining to resell the dark gray pneumatics, not for any practical or user-oriented reason. I'm really not trying to slap your plane out of the air but buying ANY retail lego at MSRP just for a mixelshit tahu is *really* not a good idea. If you want tahu, get him for the first practical resell price you see on the internet or wait for a piece inventory and just build it for the <$10 of pieces it's worth.

I absolutely fucking adore technic but I can't bring myself to get anywhere close to it in a retail space. It just makes me feel disgusting seeing how high the MSRP has gotten.

And truth be told, most Technic sets are useless to me. They get nice parts but I've looked for more of the basic parts in Technic or very specific ones that are good for joints and skeleton structures. Plus I'm not big on the models - last one I bought was the stunt plane for those teal parts.

How about we do a "your favourite 2022 LEGO set"?

For me, it's easy, the best set of the year is the 2022 version of the Classic Space Galaxy Explorer, set 10497.

Updated building techniques while being faithful to its roots, fun building experience, no stickers (!), very fairly priced.

Trul an incredible LEGO set and I'm not even a classic space fag. I might sound like too much praise but I really think this is one of the best sets ever released, not just for this year.

Truly depends on your interest in the source material. I dont have any, but even I acknowledge the Aloy figure is one of the most detailed minifigures around, which you might value. The build is also pretty interesting and detailed. It is only really for display though because its kind of rickety, bare minimal articulation, and a strange connection in the head some people are calling illegal since it stresses or breaks the pieces over time. I think interest in the source material or a desire for the specific pieces are the most important factors to consider.

Does Bricklink have an option to see parts by year/by set? I know you can see what parts are in what sets, but if I can see what was new in what year, that would be especially helpful. Of course, parts that fit the bill for what I'm looking for are also great help.

New to the hobby and have two questions. How does bricklink work exactly? Do people send in their bricks to be put into a large collective and then people buy from it? Other question. There is an upcoming Monkey Kid set for the new year that has a minifig I really want, the set as a whole isn't interesting to me in the slightest. The problem with minifigs from new sets is that bricklink jannies are fucking lazy and take months to add new minifigs to the database. Price range depends on a lot of things. Buying MK minis on BL is often a scam because the parts can be purchased separately from the bricks and pieces section on lego.com for half the price on BL, except for some capes for some reason (almost all MK capes sadly). The problem with lego.com is that these days they too take months to add new parts.

Most resellers on Bricklink have a minimum purchase size. If you buy orders from different resellers you just got to wait for them all to come in.

For your first question, it is a bit complicated. If you place three orders from three different sellers all at the same time, bricklink sends them a WebEx meeting request at a scheduled time and they have to confer with each other to decide how much to charge you for shipping. Then bricklink charges you a single shipping fee but divides it up according to the sellers' agreement with each other. They also have to sign the agreement so it takes time for the faxes to be sent although some more modern sellers use DocuSign now. It's all very time-consuming so usually I just order from one single seller: DylanBricks.

I used to do this with my bionicles sometimes. I probably had a dozen sets total minus bionicles when I was a kid. When I got a new one I would assemble it with my brother usually, take it apart within one or two days to build other things with, and then I would randomly rebuild sections based on the images on the box and instruction booklet at random times months or years afterwards. I would have never kept boxes and instructions on purpose so they must have been scraps I kept around for the pictures. I definitely remember keeping the back of the box for the Red Beard Runner since the pictures of the alt builds are burned into my mind. It's one set I can recall with certainty building and rebuilding a few times.

It is an interesting question. I freebuild almost exclusively in adulthood so it's rare for any given set to live in its intended form for *ever* nevermind long.

I love the Horizon series ever since i heard robot dinosaurs. I really hope they release an official thunderjaw (robot trex).
The only problem i see is that the horizon series has had the string of being ghosted on the gaming scene...
The first game released right before Breath of the Wild
The second right before Elden ring, so there wasn't much buzz despite being a decent game and sequel. not perfect mind you, but amazing still in the world building.

Anyone have a guide for making circular windows? I've found the 1x4 arches method but I can't find a legal way of getting a 2x2 circle or square tile to sit centered inside the arches for the glass; I really hate the look of putting the glass all the way behind the arch blocks.

I wouldn't call it chinese pandering. Journey to the west adaptions are common as shit, but the accurate chinese text and stuff like that makes it understandable to why you'd think that. The accuracy is actually a bonus point to me, and I wish ninjago would get the same treatment and have sets based on real japanese legends and stuff like that, but no, it's always kid-ified to the max.

My opinion is that as long as it leads to new, creative designs, it's fine - and some monkie kid sets are very impressive in that regard, like The City of Lanterns.

Because some people just don't like Chinese or asian themes, but also because many people find pandering to Chinese audiences - which yes, does involve courting the CCP itself since they have total control over trade - to be morally reprehensible, or at least carries a strong possibility of permanently shifting a company's priorities given how lucrative and controlling the Chinese market is.

Hey there

not set in stone at all. In fact the top part has already been re-worked several times. Vines are a good idea, now that i'm happy with the main structure I need some decals to break up the grey in order to bring out the shape more.

I'm ambivalent about Jang's content but I do feel bad all his previous work's metrics got murdered by youtube and coppa. The interactive element is really hard to maintain and when youtube automatically marked his shit for kids all those features got removed and his channel metrics tanked.

Really not a fan of Lego missions, it's one thing if they have the videos/app AND at least have an instruction booklet online but to have nothing.... it sucks. My kid got it as a christmas present not from me and it's a bitch putting it together, I let me kid play with Legos so he doesn't have to look at a screen but I guess if Lego keeps going this way there isn't a personal reason to buy them anymore, being so expensive and all.
