If you let it sit in hot water for a bit you can pry the hat off. it's glued to a stump underneath it that's thankfully the same color as his head, so I sanded it down. It's not perfect and I'll have to go over it with some paint.

Has anyone found Big or Chaos at WalMart? Mine skipped Vector's wave and keeps restocking 4 packs of Sonic only.

Same this is happening with other lines too. It all got worse during covid when toy companies began offering solid cases of figures that were usually only going to warehouses to fulfill online retail, to the regular retail stores to help alleviate the delay in product due to the covid/port blockage issues we had during 2020. Sadly, that practice has continued and now its affecting may toy lines. In Marvel Legends when waves have a Spiderman or Wolverine figure, many stores order a fuck ton of solid cases of the main character because those buyers are idiots, and then the clogged pegs of the character people already have 900 versions of prevent the other cooler figures from going to the store and makes it look like the line is selling poorly in the store's eyes.

Toy companies created assortments of figures for a reason --- to prevent this exact shit from happening and clogging shelves with tons of the same figure. They usually double or triple pack the main character in each wave's assortment, but still offer other figures shipped in the same case. This whole ordering solid cases of one figure thing is a fucking nightmare for collecting now.

I don't think so. I saw one at a store the other day, and the Eggmobile on the box looked fairly silver. I opened it up (it's easy to do without damaging anything) and it ended up being the off-white color instead of silver, so I skipped on buying it. I'm assuming the box has always been silverish

not sure if this was ever mentioned, but i just noticed why the classic limbs are so hard to switch. they both use these disc-socket/pin things instead of that easily pop-able cone-ish pin the modern characters use. the classic's arm pins are also asymmetric, so even if you pry open the torso, you have to shave/cut down the bigger pin in order to fit into the small socket.

i personally haven't seen the jakks gold outside of the one skateboard sonic at Walmart, apparently metal sonic was on jakks site, but the shipping was nearly $20, so god only knows where the lionshare of that ends up

The 4 inch Classic is from the "Jakks Gold" line, it's just a cel shaded repaint. Super Sonic and Mecha Sonic repaints were also leaked for the same line but haven't been officially revealed/released. Super Sonic's repaint is some weird gradient effect. And the 2.5 variant Robotnik is the one that comes with the Eggmobile set, he just has bent legs so he can actually sit down in it.

Got this little shit at a mall today. He can't do much but he's so cute and he's like £6. Still need 4" Shadow to go with Rouge and Omega.
Also need to actually play Sonic Adventure 2. Started playing the first game and it's pretty good but I heard the sequel is a step up.

i didnt, but i did have to pull out one of the arms off the "O-ring" in order to pry the torso from the "armpit". I also can't tell if the arms' inner pin inside the o-ring is a single piece, because i had to cut it off in order to fully remove the arm

We're (me and GF) going to play SA2 on Gamecube, we're playing SA1 on Dreamcast because that's the version I have. DESU the Director's Cut of the first game seems like a sidegrade (hot take, I infinitely prefer SA1's artstyle with regards to humans to SA2, the anime humans look so much nicer than whatever the fuck the semi-realistic humans in SA2 were).

That's not a hot take. That's the consensus. The DX presentation is a known joke and several community efforts were made to fix the PC version to be more like the Dreamcast version right down to restoring the original lighting engine.
The Gamecube version 2 isn't offensive.

That does not make sense. All the figures aside from the massive guys like Big/Gamma have had some pretty standard articulation and joints. Plus you can physically see each joint Chaos has. He's clear lol.

It is somehow a single piece, which begs the question of how they got it into the hard plastic loop.

I had a customization plan, but it would involve seperating the torso of one of the figures to make it work by swapping arms out, and I don't know how to do that without destroying it.

He's very poseable, I think he is the best articulation they've done yet. His elbows have ball joints which are great, hes definitely my favorite one to play around with and he just looks great. I can even give him gamma legs like pic related.

I assumed they weren't allowed to make their own models for modern characters but it's probably because they haven't gotten to the obscure ones yet, maybe that will change

Walmart insider here. Talked to the guy to order the codes for Chaos. That wave isn't even in the Walmart system, so they skipped this one and went back to Wave 5.

That's not the elbows' fault. That's just because those three don't have foot designs that lend themselves to that range of motion. Everyone else has a nice big sock that extends out past the width of the leg, adding a lot of extra space that allows for more movement. Chaos does have ball jointed feet - you can see the joints through his transparent body - but because his feet are supposed to flow straight from his ankles, there's no way to give the ball joint the range you'd expect from it without compromising his look in some way, like pinching his legs in at the ankles or making his feet wider. The guys with socks can just hollow out the sock, which doesn't hurt their look cause nobody's looking there in the first place. It's a compromise, but one I'm much more willing to forgive than everyone else not having elbows.

Ya ain't getting shit that Sega doesn't own outright. Blame Ken Penders/Archie for fucking that up, plus Sega in general not accepting that the video games are only part of what fans crave. If a character appeared in a game, it's possible, but not anything Archie/IDW/etc pushed outside of that. The reality that we don't have a new toy of the Adventures design of Robotnik should be proof enough on that.

Yeah, all of the Archie/Fleetway/DIC/etc characters are all legally owned by Sega, though Sega themselves sort of see these characters as stepchildren that they're rather not have anything to do with. There's nothing stopping Sega from allowing Princess Sally merch other than them just not liking her and preferring not to elevate her to the same level as Sonic and Tails. Part of it is Sega not liking anything they themselves didn't create, and part of it is long-standing Japanese corporate culture that considers anything made by baka gaijin to be inferior. Sega was especially bad about that in the 90's but they've gotten a little better.

Also they've historically been weird about crossing lines, for example Fleetwood was originally going to have Snively as Robotnik's assistant because they assumed that because he was in the cartoon that's what Sega would want. Sega put their foot down and said Snively could only be used in the US, and so Fleetwood came up with their own original guy Grimer. Sega also chewed Archie out when one of their artists snuck in Fleetwood characters for background cameos.

When it comes to the cartoons and stuff, yeah sure, but I feel like it's more the fact that they deviate so far from the games and are the farthest thing from "canon", whatever that even is when it comes to Sonic anymore. Americans made Sonic 2 and 3&K, and those are much more relevant and acknowledged by Sega than Japan's sequel, Sonic CD is. I'd also say "they've gotten a little better" is an understatement considering how much American-made Sonic stuff comes out nowadays that is official and gets merch. Mania, the Sonic Boom cartoon, Sonic Prime, the live-action movies, not to mention the fact that Frontiers is written by the same westerner who works on the comics. I honestly don't even think IDW is off the table when it comes to official acknowledgement and merch, especially considering some of the original characters have plushes

Didn't SEGA have a hand in creating Sticks? Pretty sure she was 100% approved by Sonic Steam. She showed up in the 2016 Mario & Sonic Olympics game and even got a namedrop in Frontiers. I feel Sticks is the one exception when it comes to Boom.

Yeah Sticks is one of lucky exceptions.
Sonic Team are deeply ashamed of all failed games they created before. They wants to be as famous and popular as Mario creators but it's impossible when every new game from them are literall laughing stock.
Sonic does very well in every medium except videogames. And this is totally Sonic Team's fault.

They were basically only at Toys R Us, and when you got there, there were only 2 of whatever you were looking for on the shelf. Both would have terrible paint jobs of be broken in the package, and you’d have to make your choice to purchase based on which looked less fucked up. And even then, you had a 60% chance of some part of the figure breaking once you opened it up, just because you decided to move one of the joints before running the figure under hot water to help it loosen up.
Oh wait, did I say “the” figure? With Jazwares there was a high probability that whatever new figure you bought came in a 2 pack with the 13th Sonic figure you were forced to re-buy. And every time you could tell how much more their quality control was slipping. Each Sonic you were forced to repurchase had some new issue, like a loose leg, or sloppier paint, or lack thereof. So after you’ve paid 16 dollars for two 3 inch figures, you’re left with something you already own, and a new figure that feels like it’ll fall apart if you move it the wrong way. But hey, they made Blaze, so we can’t complain too much, right?

One of the Targets I hit got rid of pretty much all of their Jakks Toys in favor of WWE and Playmates TMNT toys. Not a huge loss since they were always 2 waves behind and didn't stock the 2.5" line, but still. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

if you lived near a TRU like I did it was great. some of the figures had minor QC issues but they were pretty good regardless. the worst experience I personally had with one was a 6 inch classic sonic with mold flashing around his eyes. it wasnt a dealbreaker for me but it also wasnt good.

I never really had any trouble finding them, TRU stocked them pretty well in my area. Until around the time Jazwares lost the license at least. I never saw the later waves which were just repacks with new accessories. Then the Tomy stuff was impossible to find so I didn't bother with it. The Jakks line is like a dream come true. Good question, because I've literally never seen it. I live near 3 targets and there's a 4th around my job. All I ever see is Modern Sonic with the occasional Tails. Never saw Knuckles, never saw Amy, never saw Vector, never saw Rouge, only saw Omega, Silver, and Shadow once. I'd love to know where you guys are seeing such a variety of characters, because around here, it's Sonic as far as the eye can see. Even when I ask employees to check the back, they say there's a box full of Sonic figures and even they look confused by it.

Before Jazwares there was no Metal Sonic, Chaotix, Babylonians, super forms, knights versions, Silver or Blaze figures at all.
Fucking Tomy gave us Sticks, Orbot, Cubot, Infinite, Zavok and first Egg Mobile.
Compared to Jakks which give us only Omega, Chaos and couple of new classics for now I think Jazwares and even fucking Tomy has a way better output.
Jazwares run lasted about six years. Fucking Tomy spend three years on Boom shit and two years trying to imitate Jazwares line. Jakks started in late 2019 so it's been three years already. Let's see what they make before inevitable loss of license.

Hey friends,
You may already know this, but many Targets are stocking new Sonic figures in the Valentine's section for whatever reason. In mine, they were pretty hidden, but I managed to find Big and Chaos. Meanwhile, the actual signposted Sonic section in the toys was totally barren.
I didn't notice any 2-inch figures in the Valentine's zone, unfortunately. Still hunting for Charmy.

They are looong done, they were done before TRU even closed. The only figures worth giving a care about anyway are Crabmeat, Motobug, either Eggmobile and Sticks. Pretty sure you could easily custom Sonic too. If you want actual GOOD toys, all their efforts were focused into the pokemon line.

I found a Knuckles at my store today, been looking for him for forever too. They also had a Charmy but I am entirely convinced he is too small and that they'll make a bigger one eventually.

You can't remove the arms and legs without splitting the torso in two, and it's two halves glued together, the only way to realistically split the torso apart is to drill a hole in somewhere to be able to insert a tool to pry it open, or destroy one of the limbs to create an empty socket to do it.

I just aim a hairdryer at the joint for a minute or so, rotating around it until it’s evenly heated. Don’t go too long or short on heating, there’s a sweet spot. Try to pull it out; if it doesn’t give, add more heat.

Not only did the neck peg snap off trying to remove the head (which has never happened on the Shadow figure I bought last year just to have Shadow) making it a complete waste of money, but trying to pull the arm out after leaving it in boiling water for 15 seconds, the hinge stressed so hard it's now permenantly like this, total loss.

I also bought the figure cheap from eBay, it arrived with the blisterpack already falling apart, so maybe I got a lemon from the getgo.

Shadow is supposidely getting re-issued in the future so I'll wait to resume this project if he does, otherwise I don't feel comfortable buying another figure online.

Next time I'll also use a pair of pliers and a towel to yank the limbs out of the socket. Might as well buy a cheap hairdryer for it too.

The likely reason his joints are still stuck on the torso is because they're not the same "cone pins" that Rouge and Sonic have, but the "disc pins" which secures it perfectly from ever being swapped. it is cool that you removed the head, though. at least now you can pry open the torso and really see what's holding those limbs

Chaos might be the best figure in the line right now. I just got mine Tuesday and he's a treat. The only downside is that the Master Emerald he comes with feels like a fragile piece of shit. While Chaos feels like he's made of a similar plastic to the other emeralds, the Master Emerald feels like it came off a dollar store toy. I'm guessing they don't think there's that much demand for movie-based toys. I just got the 2.5 inch four-pack and a 4 inch Robotnik and that's pretty much all I need.
