I had the knowledge, the time, and the money to get the Mafex. I just didn't like it. I don't care for the metallic paint in general, the gold is too pale and desaturated, I hated the metallic ice blue they chose for his abs, the stark banana yellow of the pouches looks cheap next to all the metallics, I don't like the shape of his shoulder spikes, the headsculpt looks bad to me somehow (the tons of wrinkles in his forehead and eye area look more distressed than angry somehow, like he's straining to take a shit).

t had too many issues for my personal taste, I can forgive one or two things but when it hits 5+ issues, especially at Mafex prices, it's gonna be a no for me, dawg. McFarlane's isn't perfect either, but it got more right than wrong in my book, and the retail price was just right. It's just too bad you can't get one at a non-scalper price anymore.

Because I remember hearing you guys keep praising it like it was the next coming of Christ but in reality it's a pretty mediocre figure that does everything other domestic companies have done before and done better. I can understand AzBats and Parallax being high up despite their inaccuracies, because they're fan favorites. But Ghost Maker? He's only appeared in the terrible modern Batman stories over the past few years. He's not even that amazing of a figure.

I think people like the design and thus the execution of the design since its pretty much accurate. The character looks very edgy which plays to Mcfarlane's strengths and also Mcfarlane's audience's preferences.

One need only look at their nominations to see how absolutely clueless they are. Look at their picks for best action figure of 2022. Jesus fucking Christ, how out of touch, even for kids. I showed the list to my nephew and niece and they didn't recognize any of the items. I would not classify some of these picks as action figures in the first place. Hell, in their "best collectible" category, they literally nominated a box of Crayola Crayons. It's like someone was asleep at the switch here.

This is the scene that I'm surprised made it out of the writing room. Why not just have him use his cape to glide like in every other iteration? It's objectively a mediocre figure that has nothing special about it. Armored look? Don't before. Baggy pants with seem less looking joints. Done in the part and to a better degree. People demanded it, so they got it. Rebirth is the better figure despite the smaller (but better articulating) chest. But because it isn't close enough to the classic Batman, people will reject it. I learned to like it though, because I like added detail and the gloves and boots look nice in that aspect, rather than ye olde totally flat gloves and boots.

Personally, I spent a lot of time buying $300 figures of designs I thought were cool but wasn't attached to the source material, and it's left me sort of empty. Meanwhile I buy a $20 figure of a character I like and feel way more satisfied. Collecting can be cyclical like that, and its not always the same cycle for people. I don't usually stress scale too much, but Jesus did McFarlane fuck up with Conner. He's supposed to be 5'9" not the same height as 6'3" Superman. Shame because the figure looks pretty nice otherwise.

I'm not sure of his exact age in the current continuity, but it's based on his look from the recent Young Justice comic, where he's usually drawn only slightly taller than 5'6" Tim Drake. It varies depending on the artist though(or sometimes even in the same comic),so I just go by the the most recent DC encyclopedia stats.

It's not a huge deal, of course, since overly tall figures can be fudged in with smaller ones by bending the knees. I just wish McFarlane paid a little more attention to scale in general.

You have to understand Todd's thought process, anon. Bigger toys = more value, smaller toys = less value. In his eyes, variance in height is stolen value. Now, in a normal toyline that would be remedied by packing the smaller figure with other things like accessories, but that's not how Todd plays ball.

My thought process is bigger toys=fall over and are harder to pose due to risk of falling over, and half the time the hockey pucks won't hold anything but an almost neutral pose. That said, Hasbro's disgusting excessive body mold reuse makes them impossible to back even though their figures tend to be the right size.
