IIRC the SS one's articulation is slightly lacking, if that helps. I don't own either though. I am a sucker for 70s/80s racing cars which is additional bias in favour of WFC.

Well, considering rise of the beasts comes out this year, and a full blown beast wars movie is likely to be next in 2026, I'd say next year for legacy year 3 we'll get depthcharge, rampage, tm2 dinobot, but unlikely much else until 2025 when the next tf show launches

Honestly, I consider it an "Apples to Oranges" argument, as they're both excellent figures, but you're not using SS Wheeljack as a G1 Wheeljack nor vice versa.

I would advise getting the upgrade kit for ER Wheeljack if you bother with him though, as it fixes a couple key issues with the figures. those being the tiny wings and the massive gaps in the legs.

Found Masterpiece Blackout at Target for 50% off. Never would have bought it at full price, but now that I have it I'm impressed at how well it tabs together. I hated the Leader-class Studio Series Blackout figure, so I'm pleasantly surprised that the Masterpiece figure is less fiddly than the more "toyish" cheap figure.

So, given the sheer size of that chest, and the general size of core class toys, I'm guessing he'll end up being the size of a large voyager.

The last Menasor was released the same year as the last Devastator, so I think he's due for an update. you're in luck, as Shockwave has sort of entered a second coming of great toys

on shelves is a tiny shockwave that turns into a spaceship/gun. He's normally at walmart for 10 bucks.
a few of years ago we got a version of him in the Transformers Siege line that's pretty good too. He's available for a 50-75% markup on amazon, ebay, etc. If you don't care about it being brand new, you can get it closer to 60 bucks

The masterpiece (high end collectible) has been knocked off, so you'll find a TON of ones shipping from China that aren't the real deal.

Expect to pay 150-200 for that guy if you find him from a reputable seller.

The new transformers show has a shockwave toy that's a repack of the last show's. That drops sometime this or next month. He's a great shockwave in robot mode, but he turns into... a mechanical spider with a laser mounted on his back.

I highly recommend Siege Shockwave. The only real complaint people had about him was the extra shit he came with which bumped him up to a leader class price point, but if you're a Shockwave lover you'll probably enjoy the extra gear and all the options it provides you.

The Nerf gun Megatron from 2007 can't even be sold now. The last time they tired that had to coat the thing in red.

it was never a law
it was policy hasbro instituted to avoid upsetting parents.
Basically, back in the late 80s/early 90s airsoft guns became popular, and many of them had contracts with actual gun manufacturers to use their designs. As a result, a few people tried carrying airsoft guns pretending to be real guns and some of them got shot
so to avoid the stigma of a "toy" gun (as the news kept calling it) hasbro just stopped entirely.

The law you're thinking of is that any gun-like toy must have an orange tip on the end. That law was passed in direct response to the airsoft issue.

the law covers "look-alike" and toy guns. Essentially if it actually resembles something people would think of as a gun, it counts.

Shockwave having a camera flash for a barrel would be completely immune to the rule.

Ironically, so would muskets, some revolver designs, and some rifles, because they predate the "modern firearm" definition.

Bending his 'bot legs down to form a larger handle, keeping the conning tower folded inside the legs, and attaching the extra front piece from the armored up version of his ship mode to the rear instead of the front lets you have a fairly functional blaster you (Or your RID Megatron/Galvatron) can hold no problem.
Also, I recommend the Galactic Man repaint over the standard violet colored version for this guy - he looks so much better in black and grey with a red eyeball.

Shockwave is waaay too little to be a voyager by himself.
His transformation is too simplistic.
They could have done a few things to make it more complicated, sure, but you have to also remember the Siege Leader line was specifically about armored up figures.

We had optimus, ultra magnus, and shockwave and then eventually astrotrain.
even astrotrain came with extra stuff to pile onto him.

So if shockwave was a voyager, what voyager would have gotten bumped up with armor into the leader spot?
instinct might suggest megatron, but his alt mode in siege isn't very conducive to piling extra armor parts on.
The only thing i could think of is if you went with Soundwave and made his tapes INTO armor up pieces.

Oh, and I forgot that, on my copy at least, the knee joint on both sides is much stiffer than joints/tabs holding everything in place, meaning I have to hold the back of his knee just to bend without the whole thing coming apart (this wasn't such a problem on my friend's copy according to him)

In the long run he's going to be better remembered than the janky transformation of both Universe08/Henkei versions. Yet to be released here in Australia but I want him so badly so I can give him the Chainclaw repainted Fracas Minicon. Anyone who has both can confirm if the Chainclaw mold Minicon can fit onto Hot Shot in vehicle mode? The width is what makes me question the connection.

I think it was more the case Hasbro really believed Beast Wars is a failure that no one wanted so some people had to do ways to convince them otherwise, like the fan poll which inevitably led to Optimus Primal winning and Hasbro conceding and making his POTP toy. It's a good thing it was the catalyst that led to the resurgence of Beast Wars for its 25th anniversary. And now Hasbro is banking on that shit.

At least the Henkei actually transformed and showed some ambition in design. I remember getting it in hand and thinking that, with more volume/plastic and a slightly higher partscount, it could've possibly been a pretty great Hot Shot. It already transforms quite nicely if you do it sensibly, it just a) has those shoulder pieces that massively hamper the robot mode and needed something else doing with them and b) has a Jolt that kinda struggles to stand

I wonder if concept art/renders exist for any of the other designs - specifically Arcee, Hound, Megs and Deathsaurus. The others are pretty obvious what they would have been, except maybe Shockwave - though as someone else already said, Siege probably hit the same notes as the PotP would have. I'd be very interested in seeing any and all art not revealed though.

Ambition can only take you so far, and the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Of course I had the Universe 08 version but either way the shoulder back kibble was their first attempts at giving Hot Shot actual shoulders but it just gets in the way so much it's frustrating to play with. His vehicle mode doesn't tab together well and IIRC none of his holes are 5mm so he couldn't hold or attach any weapons to him, it was just slightly smaller than the universal 5mm peg. I ended up giving it away years ago because it just isn't great, the new one has some questionable design decisions like the roof now on the legs but if there's no kibble clashing and pegs that stays together then it's the better toy.

Hmmm, that's never been the case with my Henkei so it may be a consequence of "pre-unification" differences. I've definitely encountered that with older TT vs Hasbro mould uses where I've had an example of each.
