>get into new line >try to stick to just my favorites >start getting "companions" for them >end up planning displays >number bloats to the point where I'm not just collecting what I like, I'm just hoarding How do you anons deal with this? I got into 1/6th a while back, and while I managed to keep it under control I'm racking up too many wants. I got into it to escape from the completionist mentality I had with smaller and cheaper scales, but I'm starting to make the same mistakes. Take Star Wars. I decided to stick to the Jedi and the Sith. But I need a Thrawn, so I need to set up an Empire display. To do that I'll need some Imperial Guards to flank the Emperor, and at this point I'll need a Tarkin and a Stormie. I've got a Luke and passed on Han but now it ticks me off. I've got hundreds of FF comics and was planning to get the whole team, but it'll cost me upwards of 1K, when I most certainly don't like Johnny/Sue/Ben as much as, say, Doctor Strange or Conan or Aragorn or whatever other figure I could buy with the same cash. When I started I just wanted a clean, museum like display of just my absolute favorites. Now I'm falling in the same 6" pitfalls. >oh yeah that movie/game/comic is a classic, I've gotta have the MC I feel the need to buy the upcoming InArt Cavill Superman, yet I've never even read a Superman comic or like him. How do you deal with this? I'm collecting some other lines too and it's straining me financially and mentally. JoyToy 40K, 1/6th, Omni collecting, and the odd One:12 Mezco and import figure aren't cheap or easy to deal with. You've got make this pre-order deadline, you've gotta make room, you've got to get it all once you start buying a specific team. And if I don't complete it, I feel as if I've failed and lose interest in it all. Dunno, it's hard.

>Star wars Rotj luke, Vader and Palpatine
>Marvel Wolverine, Spidey, carnage, venom, iron man and thanos
>Zoids Blade liger and command wolf
>Gundam God Gundam, shining Gundam and 5 other gundams I thought had cool designs
>Berserk Berserker armor guts
>Dragon ball Goku, Vegeta and Broly
>DC Superman
>Street fighter Ryu, ken, Akuma

I got Bo-Katan and Koska Reeves for pretty cheap and now I'm out here pre-ordering Axe Woves just to complete the Nite Owls. I got two Stormtroopers to flank Moff Gideon, but when they revealed the Dark Troopers I knew they'd be better behind him so I got two of those and then I went out and got a Vader for the Stormtroopers to stand with. All that being said, I don't really mind it as much as you do but I do realize it's being a bit of a completionist. However I still feel like I have the willpower to walk away and not get stuff that I'm not at least partially familiar with (like the Fantastic Four in your example.)

I could never conquer this mentality which is why I never bought a hot toy or sideshow figure and always forced myself to stick to 6, 7, and 3.75 inch figures cheaper mass market releases and yes my collection is a clusterfuck and I even thought of going the hot toys route to have a cleaner display but told myself “$250 for an action figure I just don’t do that better to overpay but only spend like $30 for a six inch black series”

I've been feeling this too. I was at Target the otherday, and I saw the NECA Hudson figure from Gargoyles and I picked it up, looked at the price, and wondered it I really wanted to spend $40 on a design I'm not super into just because I liked the show. And I liked the character, And its not even a money thing, I've dropped hundreds on single figures before, and I think for what it was it's a fine enough value. Its just considering the space it'd take up, all the extra bits, just makes me wonder if I really want the sey/ Like, do I really want Broadway? It feels like this is what it becomes; getting the figures you wouldn't even want as a kid because you need to complete a cast. As a kid I didn't mind crossing over Gargoyles/Ninja Turtles/Power rangers if I only had a Goliath/Raph/Red Ranger, but as an adult I fret over displays matching. And its like, why, the only people who see my stuff are friends, my girlfriend, some family members, and none of them care about scale or mixing displays.

whenever you feel like you want to buy something, do it later. Procrastinate.
Make it a habit and soon enough you'll stop buying most bullshit, and only actually the stuff you care about.

been collecting kamen rider SHFs and my collection just keeps expanding
I went from
>just favorites from my favorite show >buying side characters from my favorite show >buying characters that I don't care from my favorite show because I want to compelete the whole deal a few years later I have more than 200+ of these bastards in my house.

I have the same problem OP, everytime I scale back and sell shit I get into a new toyline and start making the same mistakes again. It's a slippery slope. It doesn't help when you see stuff that would go well on your display for super cheap, let's cal him character Y, so even if it wasn't going to be in it you get it but then I feel that if I have character Y that I don't like as much then character X needs to be in my display since I like him more.

>>10213821 This seems to be a common problem. Everyone starts out collecting with a finite limit and once its reached you kinda go on to expand. I've done this countless times with different lines to the point of army building particular characters I never even intended to get in the first place.
You're only solution is to create rules and stick to them. One of mine is no live action which is really hard at the moment with the new mafex terminator, but I know how these things open up a can of worms.

>>10218255 worst of all is when a friend or family member givr you a figure you don't collect and then you start collecting more because they gave you for example Black Ranger and now you need the rest of the team.

>>10219699 my solution to that is to put that one-off figure with my fortnite figgers
i got a few fortnite guys then hasbro got the license, and to give them frens i put my extras with them. same for anything i thing looks cool but i don't want to get a whole line, like the TMNT playmates triceratron
i lso do this for when i upgrade/replace figgers, like my ESB darth vader got moved to fortnite after getting the ANH version, marvel legends scarlett witch, etc.

This just happened to me, I've been avoiding the Galaxy Squadron line for this very reason. I finally decide just to get an AT-ST since it's small and won't use much space. I fucking love it. Now I just ordered the Millenium Falcon which is much bigger. I think I can hold on in getting many more ships, I'll only get the Slave I and AT-AT when it's released. But man I want those mini figures for every character, I just don't want to buy a ship, hopefully they're released separately in a huge pack of mini figures one day.

Look at what you have and decide if you actually want some of the stuff you bought. You can always sell what you don't want anymore. Sometimes I start collecting something thinking I'll keep it going but get bored of it so I either keep what I have or sell it. You can always just box and store what you still want but either don't want to display or don't have room for. It's not hoarding if you take care of your shit.

I want the new old space lego sets, but what the fuck am I gonna do with them once built? Collect dust? Or spend more than the toys are worth on some fancy cabinet? Not worth it, I wish Lego would knock out more $10 sets with a small footprint to go on desks and book shelves.
