The guns are the least of his issues, honestly. The fact that he's a gappy pancake from side view in robot mode, the fact that he's a stiff brick in beast mode with NO leg articulation at all, and the fact that his legs are a frickin' 4D jigsaw puzzle that defy Euclidean geometry are much, MUCH bigger problems than his dinky pizza cutters and wrong head sculpt.

mostly badass and good proportions, with a cool face sculpt that sadly looks like the old toy instead of like the show, and a really obvious shoulder piece on the dragon neck that could have used a molded piece to hide it or a way to sink into the body or something, given that the dragon gets its own unique torso piece.

I honestly like the Kingdom figure more than the previous one
His 'rhino' mode has as much potato and toad DNA as it does rhino, but I find him kind of endearing. That and, as someone who never uses instructions and enjoys the 'puzzle play' aspect, I found the transformation engaging without being frustrating

Considering haslabs is just a kickstarter scheme to milk money out of consumers when they are a large corporation that can pay for the production of products themselves, getting rid of haslab may be a start in the right direction

The old toy face sculpt looks closer to the show than the new one, ironically. The Legacy's weird nose shape and cheek wrinkles makes it look nothing like Megatron and are worse offenders than the shark teeth.

Not exactly the same, but it does come with a masked face, and you can transform the backpack to resemble the fastpack. I’m holding out for a toy version though. Doubt it would come with new armor parts, but digibashes of the toy deco on that mold look sharp as hell.

That honestly wouldn't surprise me. It would be even funnier if they release Cryotek, but he has Megatron's face instead, leading to people buying both just to partswap the heads onto the correct bodies.
Whatever the case, the resemblance between the new head and Cryotek's artwork has to be more than a coincidence - the cheek wrinkles, pointed nose and shark teeth all make it look like whoever it was that designed him used that exact picture of Cryotek from the wiki as their reference.

Cryotek's toy had the same head as TM2 Megatron's - flat nose, no cheek wrinkles, square teeth in a grimace. That pic was from the 3H comics, where they took liberties with the head design to differentiate him from Megatron. The Legacy TM2 Megatron's head looks like the 3H Cryotek's face, not the actual toy, so the only way that could have come about was if someone popped into the wiki and looked up Cryotek's picture instead of Megatron's (probably because Megatron's page has his purple Barny form as its image and it would require scrolling down the page to see his dragon form). It's not the first time we've seen them use the wiki for reference pics only to get shit wrong in the end.

That was KitzConcept. It’s a redeco of their VF-1S called God of Flame. I’ve heard iffy things about their QC though, and apparently it partsforms. It’s also over $200 cause of how limited it is. Definitely not something for everyone.

I did it today, really surprised it is not a more well known issue. I should have taken before and after pictures. Was kind of hard to get at the piece that needed cutting, not a lot of room to get a knife in there. The gears were a bit damaged already, but the arms still hold their positions. I am glad I got to it before it got worse.

From the description, it seems he's also a Weaponizer of some sort.
Also, not really liking how Arcee's entire upper torso basically doesn't transform and how her head just hangs off the back of the bike. Any idea if they're going to do a bigger version of her, hopefully with a bit more of a convincing transformation?

hopefully no massive manufacturing issues this time.

speaking of my wallet, got dragon megatron in. So far he looks pretty good, and his flame effect has found its new home in the hand of that custom red dinobot guy you might remember I did. The dragon chest flap hanging off of the back is dumb, and the claws on the robot chest do not want to peg in, but those are my only gripes so far.

I managed to get the last studio series hot rod from Amazon but when I got it the box was already opened, strings tying him down weren't there and a leg was popped off. Feels like I got a returned one or something. Is it worth complaining about? He still works fine and I don't think anything is broken.

okay, having transformed him, I do have notes
for whatever reason, the robot ankles / dragon metatarsal joint only bends forward (pretty useless except for a deep crouch pose) and not backward. it looks completely silly if you bend it at all.
i had a hell of a time transforming this, given how simple it is. but i must say, the method of embiggening the pelvis was smart, and the neck doesn't look as bad if you twist around the shoulder segment (this gives him a segment of wrong-colored neck-plates, but it just feels much more natural while standing and the neck arcing forward. almost makes me want to go in and unscrew the shoulder and flip that part, but it doesn't look as good when the neck is fully extended for flight mode. a flight mode which, again, looks weird because his feet can't swing backward)
i think i'll be displaying him in robot mode..

What is the point of this. Their value is almost the same as the 1995 figures. Are they just too scared to release a decent clear plastic and chrome Transmetal because of cost. I like Star Saber, but I still hate how stupid the designers were with the new sword. Not only is the blade clear plastic, the attachment is begging to break it due to how its attached. I don't know why making the blade out of stronger material and changing the attachment into a 5mm port was skipped in favor of the current set up.

Hell, a 5mm port would mean you could have Saber just wielding the blade portion so he wouldn't look ridiculous wielding a gigantic hilt.

I really hope a third party eventually makes a single piece sturdy hilt with blade and makes the hilt deformed so Star Saber can wielding it easier.

I still don't know why the shoulders have limited outwad adduction. I would have been fine with fucking flap so they moved like the Siege Magnus shoulders if it gave it more articulation. Sort of related, the mp figured out how to do it and the new one had even more shoulder space to work with (since the landing gear/missiles weren't included), so there's no excuse.

Clear plastic is a mistake every single time and Hasbro needs to stop using it. It adds nothing to most figures, like, what is the point in clear windows on a vehicle when all you see through it are hinges and robot parts? When the budget has gotten so tight that transformation critical parts are having to be put on clear plastic molds because that's the only place the designer could fit it then it's time to stop.

It's functionally useless and in most instances serves to hinder any figure that features it. Quality of the plastic is irrelevant when no matter how good quality clear plastic is it will always be structurally inferior to opaque plastic. Take SS86 Jazz for example. If the roof were opaque plastic it wouldn't crack like that. Or 86 Ironhide, how much better would that look if it were all the same red as opposed to the 4 different shades the figure has?

The ears have always been gold. But this one is supposed to look closer to a realistic lion so it would make more sense for the ears to be white.

in most of these modern toys, the white painted parts don't match the white plastic anyway. i'm not sure it's possible to match perfectly, especially when white plastic tends to be translucent. at a certain point, you've gotta say 'good enough.'

That's not a podcast, that's an interview and toys are russ doesn't do podcasts, he only does toy reviews and is catching up on all toys after G1 and Beast Wars that he never got back then whether attached to them or not (unlike gotbot) and is slowly building them up now. The interview is a special occasion considering how unknown he is relatively compared to others.

Transformers Classics Mirage

What I suppose is the most controversial of the first batch of Classics.

But not in vehicle mode. Mirage's racecar mode is a very sleek and clean alt mode with no visible robot stuff. Even the underside keeps up a façade.
The only thing working to blow his cover is his own face peeking out from behind the windshield.

Besides the classic blue and white colour scheme Mirage is also covered in a bunch of referential sponsor tampos. Maybe the first tiem Hasbro had done something like this.
They include but are not limited to; "Witwicky Sparkplugs," "Lithonian Drivetrain," and "FP Racing," and "Plasma Injection Energy." Those two might be episode specific references that I'm just not picking up at the moment.

Now we move to the controversial bit I alluded to before.

Mirage isn't exactly the stereotypical Transformer shape. I can only imagine the firestorm that would occur if Hasbro tried releasing a Generations toy like this nowadays.
That said, I don't mind it. I like all the Classics toys.

The way the chest folds down in two pieces is pretty neat and his tiny head is unmistakably Mirage. Wish the wheels behind the head did *something*.

The only new bit of colour in bot mode is the orange on his forearms.
The paint on the chest is an interesting way of making a fake windshield. Not quite as egregious as Classic Prime's fake grill but pretty much every Prime after him did the same thing so who cares.
For Mirages it's this strip of paint or a whole molded fake front end of a car.

Stylized while somewhat still following the original design? see legacy prime universe arcee and bulkhead and and legacty animated prowl, some won't like them, some will.

Fracture was the best use of that mold tho.

I appreciate the uniqueness of the proportions on it, though I never got a copy of it myself. The recent WFC Mirage is probably better to most people (it's both closer to the original Diaclone toy and all the story media) but I like the Classics one more. It's distinct. There's nothing else quite like it.

Ball jointed shoulders and hips and neck. with the neck also having a hinge.
Double hinged elbows and knees. A waist swivel and ball jointed feety flaps to sell the illusion of ankles from some angles.
Pretty much as functional as his partner there who is 15 years newer.

Speaking of, in a not so shocking twist the newer toys is actually heavier than the older toy this time.
Leadfoot weighs in a whole gram and a half heavier than Mirage

But in terms of overall proportion the WFC one is much closer to the original G1 toy. Wide, blocky torso. It's more squared off and stocky like you would expect. It makes the usual concessions a lot of WFC toys do, but it's a very conservative update in terms of silhouette. Classics Mirage is a weird bug face away from fitting into HFTD.

He doesn't like the Unicron Trilogy for a variety of reasons, not being able to get into the show, the toys are bricks and nameslaps. I can respect his opinion (except for the nameslaps bit) since I too share the same thing but for Cyberverse. My real problem is him not getting any of the new UT toys because he has no emotional attachment to them. 'It's not for me because I didn't like the show' he says, I can understand to a degree of not wanting a toy because of no emotional connection but if the toy is great to play on it's own regardless of where it came from then surely that's a good enough reason to get it right?
