Hmm. I think the first SW set I remember owning was 8084 Snowtrooper Battle Pack, and shortly after, it's sister set 8083 rebel trooper battle pack. I remember loving that rocket launcher in the snowtrooper set, and using it as a homing missile. At the time I was a young kid, and while I liked star wars, it was one theme among many.

It wasn't until 2015, when I saw the Force Awakens, that I really fell in love with Star Wars. Say what you will about the movie, but it was the first one I saw in theatres, and I remember walking out of the theatre with the scene where Poe's X-wing shoots down all those TIEs on Takodana. The second I got out of the theatre I hastily added 75102 Poe's X-wing Fighter to my christmas list, and while it's $80 price was high for a christmas present (especially since I added it after seeing the film on the 15th and I'm sure my parents had already purchased some presents by then), I was surprised christmas night with it, and it was my favorite set for years. After that, Star Wars became the main and almost only theme I collected, and my love for the franchise went from "cool movies" to being able to recite the specific name of all canon rebel and imperial ships in middle school.

So long story short, 8084 is technically my first SW set, but 75102 is really what I would consider my first set and the birth of my love of lego star wars.

A friend of mine passed away a few months ago. I got an invitation to join them in building some of my late friend’s unfinished Lego sets. I’m honored for the invite although I don’t really know his other friends very well. But at least it’s an excuse to play with toys with other people, right? I would consider a compromise in disassembling some sets and keeping them in display rotation for extra room. Reconsider what you really want to keep. I have not met your wife, but it could be that she just sees this as consoomerism only. It looks like you just build the sets and let them collect dust. Not to mention what appear to be completely unopened sets. Selling what you don't want, and at least build a better display for what you do want to keep.

I had this set, the Jedi starfighter, and Luke Skywalker's fighter vessel from the Battle of Hoth. Plus both little five-dollar sets for the Throne Room from Return of the Jedi. Those were the whole of my Star Wars sets. As for other themes, I had around half of all Adventurers sets and most of the Wild West sets.

You need to talk to you wife about this more and get to the bottom of this.
It's clear as day that this didn't come from nowhere. Is she being manipulated by her mother who disapproves of your Lego collection? Are her friends mocking her for having a husband into toys? Does she feel like you love your Lego collection more than your kids/family/herself? Is she just being selfish and wants more for herself? Or is it something else?
Hard to act accordingly without knowing the root cause here.
I suggest you talk to your wife alone and ask her why your Lego collection, which has been fine for years, is suddenly a big issue. Don't come in yelling and raging because then she'll start crying and you won't get anywhere. Keep yourself in check, but be firm and don't fall for little cover up lies.
For instance, if pulls the "but the kids" then ask her how exactly your hobby is harming your children. Why wasn't it an issue for your kids until now all of the sudden?

I used to keep some boxes but mostly canisters around my room. Now only one huge box remains in place, all canisters are in a bag in the attic and the flattened boxes in another. Building instructions have their own folder.
Keeping boxes is not a bad thing specially older ones with artwork and alt builds, and if you are into selling them there's always buyers. I rub reddit's opinions up and down my 5 o'clock shaven asscrack in a very humid summer regardless of me agreeing or not.

Somewhere between 2003-2006 for me.

Good mix of the classic Lego style whilst still having modern elements and more ornate figures and builds.

Original 1999-2002 is really cute and soulful and 2006 up until the sequels had a lot of really cool things. Then waves got filled with sequel sets, spinoff show sets, got squeezed down and up to weird proportions to fit price points, got over-priced, focused on too much detail to a point where things look less charming and lego-y, etc.

They seem to be coming back around and making the odd cool thing now. I'm looking forward to the Jabba's Palace vignette type scene.

R8 the haul. My Lego Store didn't have any Monkie Kid shit (They had Duplo in the shelf space for it) so I wound up getting the rabbit instead of the Combi Mech, though I'm probably gonna build the seal instead. Accidentally ended up with the T-Rex instead of the Orc, but 3/4 of the figs I felt up is a good deal.

I remember reading some Johnny Thunder adventures someone had MOCed online around the mid-late 2000s (with photos and paragraphs of text). There was one where everyone was trapped in some magic cave that put them in lucid dreams, one where they found a crashed UFO in the outback, one with Dr Kilroy's backstory with some gypsies, one with Dino Island, and one where they encountered Vikings who had settled in America. The same guy had made a few other stories in the same format but with other Lego themes. Do any of you guys remember this and the name of the site they were on?

not sure, but it looks like it was related to viruses, and corrupting technology, which the nexo knights used. Resulting hin them having to fight without their nexo abilities maybe? But the wave was decent, managed to get them all. That set is interesting. The black and trans green looked good imo. and the armor pieces for the enemy were decent enough to look both futuristic, but also old fashioned for medieval/orc armies.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of UCS either.
I only have the 2018 Y-Wing, because it looks amazing, it is sturdy, easy to handle, you can woosh it around and only slightly oversized compared to the figures.
The UCS AT-AT, Star Destroyer and Razor Crest may look fucking awesome, but they are just display pieces, which end up taking up space and collecting dust. The playset scale AT-AT and AT-TE are a hell of a lot more fun and most of their flaws can be fixed with modifications, if you have the bricks.
I also wish they would redesign the Venator, or Star Destroyer playsets and figure something out, to not ruin the silhouette of the ships.

Nah it's a pretty reasonable criticism of how Lego's design philosophy changed from the 90s/very early 2000s to the 2000s onward going from lots of sharp angles to smooth curves. Just compare Alpha Team in 2001 to Alpha Team in 2002 and it's a pretty sharp contrast. Hating on smooth curves in Lego in general though is retarded, but those old huge-ass curve wedges from that are shit compared to the slew of curved slopes we have today.

Just finished putting together Jay's Titan Mech and for the first time in a long time I'm blown away at a Lego mech. I never gave a shit about Ninjago before, but are all the Titan Mechs (And I guess Nya's Samurai X Mech) like this? I'd probably get Zane's next since it's the closest to retiring but damn I'm gonna buy up a bunch of the hip/shoulder joint used on this and make me a bunch of Exo-Force mechs in this style.

No, it's because they were trying to copy the cartoon's aesthetic on a lego figure, and it didn't work out well because the faces look retarded, but there is a clear difference in non-cartoon minifig design and the cartoonish one they were going for here which is directly based off the series.

However the colours on the Llama minifigs wrist are Purple, Teal/Blue, Purple, where as the colours of the transgender pride flag are Blue, Pink, White, Pink, Blue. Clearly not the same colours or colour combination. Another example would be the Rabbit minifigure, who has a 4 coloured lightning bolt on it's torso. The colours used are; (L-R) Violet-Purple, Purple, Orange, Silver. It is claimed that this is a reference to the bisexual pride flag, the colours of which are; Magenta, Purple-Amethyst and Blue. Once again, these colours are not the same.

However, within this image the colours of the car that the Vidiyo Unicorn is driving ARE the colours of the transgender pride flag. This results in the failure of the attempted mockery, as instead of mocking the morons for seeing things that are not there, you are instead showing them seeing something that IS there. They are not seeing a random assortment of colours and then crazily attempting to twist them into something they are not, but are in fact seeing something that is clearly something specific and done intentionally.

Also, you spelt perceiving wrong.

Ok, so I just built a new Ninjago Tiatn Mech and want to share my impressions.
TLDR: 6/10, would recommend only if you like the Protos look or don't have two previous Mechs (Samurai X and the Ice robot guy)

So Let's start from the bad. Legs are a fucking crime in terms of engineering. Yes you kinda have kneecups now and they look decent, but the left one is always colliding with the "hilt" of one of the smaller swords and you need to either remove this hilt or remove the kneecup for the "battle damaged" look. Then we have ankles. What is the point of the ball joint there if the build blocks forward and backward direction of the foot? In comparison, the Ice guy Titan mech which also hinders ankle joint movement, but you have a much wider range in terms of rotation of the foot and thus you can make much more action poses and you don't need to pray each time you try to balance the mech on the table. I would strongly recommend to moc the legs completely, or at least mimic the leg architecture from other mechs.

On the other hand, hands are a big improvement from previous mechs and can make a lot of cool poses. However "palms" are ugly and don't utilize the space given by the armor plates on them. Would recommend to moc the palms to something 4 or 3 fingered.

The overall look is decent but the torso-pelvic allignment that makes mech always in "muh dick" pose is not my cup of tea.

Stores can get shipments a maximum of twice a week, which includes boxed items and PaB orders. All Lego stores work off the same PaB inventory so they can only buy what Lego makes available to them. 2000's was a weird time for licensed themes... SW ones are weird, but don't forget the cursed harry potter figures from earlier. My guess is lego were trying to figure out how to make defining figures, and eventually found sticking to the lego look was better than trying something different. It happens with those gacha plushies, cheap capsule toys, and Lego CMFs all the time. The celo bags are so easy to tear open and pour into your pocket that everyone just does it without worrying. Walmart and target aisles will get littered with piles of CMF bags. I hope it's even worse with boxes because it looks like the bottom seal will just bust if you squeeze it, and with a more open interior the pieces will just pour out without grabbing the sides. Maybe if stealing goes even higher Lego will backpedal on the gacha boxes.
