I've no doubt Commander Class Armada Optimus will be anime accurate judging by Victory Saber but I do hope the final product is as tall as CC Menasor from last year, if not then at least a head shorter. These 2 feel like universally displaced rivals.

Late to the party, but just picked up Override. I am really pleased with the transformation, it was fun to figure out. It strikes just the right balance of ease and comfort, with a little sprinkle of complexity to keep things interesting. That's my favorite kind of transformation, I'm not into things that take 100 steps and need a manual every time.

Energon/Superlink Optimus Prime you mean. Great design, just disappointed by the drone gimmick. There were only 1 set before the combination with Wing Saber. Could've at least made another set of 4 Drones from 5-8 before getting to combining with another bot.

Also the guy who painted this pic needs some correction because UT Optimus eyes were yellow not blue and yellow eyes are superior.

His nothing alt mode sucks but I don't mind the robot mode, he looks like a bruiser and I like that. I especially like putting his blades in that underarm peg hole so they mount like Doomguy's blade does, added bonus that there isn't any paint for the rubbery pieces to scrape off

Also interesting how purple his chest is in the product image but it's the same maroon as the rest of his pieces on the final figure, I honestly like the matching colors better.

Transformers Generations Thrilling 30 Tailgate w/ Groundbuster

Being honest I think this flame tampo'd muscle car goes a little hard for Tailgate. Especially IDW Tailgate.
It's just too tough for him. With the hard angles and multiple exhausts and slick silver windows.

Transformation is a pretty simple flip legs out pull shoulders down affair.

Robot mode doesn't look too bad. Tailgate pulls a visual trick, with his actual self being quite skinny but the panels and vehicle shell bulking him out visually.
The white and teal look fine together but the grey clashes in my opinion. Maybe something in a closer shade to his windows would have worked.

Groundbuster's robot mode is like a sad joke that goes all the way back around to being kind of funny.

Tailgate's articulation was very carefully considered. This is evident in how cleanly the panels want to slide past each other.
It's all betrayed by the cruelty of reality. The tabs that hold his vehicle mode together catch on everything and make Tailgate so much more frustrating to work with.

Past that his articulation is very simple anyway.
Balljointed shoulders and elbows and hips and knees.
No neck and no waist.

Groundbuster is marketed as a bomb disposal device but bares a striking resmblence to a pooper scooper.
This may or may not be intentional for if I recall right, in IDW fiction Tailgate tried to pass himself off as a bomb disposal guy but was actually a waste disposal guy.

A bit yeah, I painted over it and the brush left some marks that can work as fur detail, desu I just didn't wanted to paint epoxy, lotta more work.

Gave him a higher nose bridge and thicker snoot too, oh also shaepen his fangs, here is a mid process pic.

So i was curious how his hip joints worked so I unscrewed the skull crotch and...
his hip joints... the ones that are mushroom pegs that slide into the crotch... They're a mix of gray hard plastic that's painted white and soft white plastic that's glued to the other half to make the mushroom peg.

This HAS to have a reason. There's no way it would be easier for them to split a small joint IN TWO and then PAINT one and GLUE it together than just make it out of one type of plastic.

the soft plastic is the outward facing plastic too, like the white side plastic.
I'm betting the original plan was to have ALL the armor pieces pop off. The "behind the scenes" sketch specifically mentions the skull would pop off, split, and go onto the feet to create a hood ornament in alt mode.
I think the original alt mode design had the chest sitting much higher, and over the knees (the spikes were a last minute addition) and the tank treads were supposed to be full treads that simply flipped out from the legs.
Once they decided the robot mode needed the shells built on, they had to add spikes where they weren't planning on it, forcing them to stretch the entire alt mode out to accomodate.

It could also explain why we also had a skullgrin core listing originally. It's entirely possible the pretender armor bits were, at one point, planned to be sold as core class weaponizers for the deluxe class inner bots.

It would also explain why arcee has detachable butterfly wheels. They might have been planning an iguanus out of her.

Skullgrin has enough legitimate problems that you don't need to go making shit up to complain about. His plastic quality is no different that any other figure, other than the obvious different plastic used for the head and weapons. Which, believe it or not, is actually very good quality since it's able to maintain intricate sculpted detail. His problem there is that his weapons should never have used that plastic.
I would like to propose a test. His forearms have a giant cavity in them, right? Try squeezing them and see what happens. What's that, nothing? It barely flexes? That's because it's good quality plastic. If it were bad it would have stressed or even snapped.
The fuck am I doing defending fucking Skullgrin!?

I'd say that's what I dislike about it because to me it's poorly done, much prefer the core class take of: robot mode based on the shell and vehicle based on the inner robot's altmode.

Fair enough, the core class Pretenders do a better job than Skullgrin for sure. I'm fine with the merged core/shell thing they're doing now but I can see how it would piss off fans of the originals. A few factors at play
We've had tfs get released that we're actually redesigns of a release that would come later (a pretool)
And two, the fembots that got their own mold we're out of necessity. Remember that the original plan was to retool hotrod into override, and they put significant work into that before scrapping the idea, which means there's no policy about fembots molds.
Blackarachnia and airrazor HAD to have new molds. There was no one to copy them from
Same with arcee. Hell, the last time they retooled someone into arcee it was a catastrophic failure.
Potp didn't give elita her own mold, they used starscream.
Others pointed out chromias circumstance so I won't rehash.

So your only argument is that earthrise and kingdom and legacy year 1 mass releases didn't do it.

That's not a strong case

I suppose a calibration error in the machinery used to make the plastic could result in some variance, but certainly not to the degree some people on here claim there is between figures. Different pigments could also account for some minor variance, that's a definite possibility. GPS is the ultimate example of that.

Making new fembot molds is the new world order. It doesn't make sense not to make a new mold for strongarm, because the only thing that fits well is the skids mold, but that wouldn't have the right chest. Even her warrior class figure had door wings, and none of the junkions can do that.

Strongarm is almost as important as windblade. She had a full mainline series to herself that ran for 5 seasons.

It would be terrible to make her a remold.

Bayformers and G1 can coexist, he'll they're already doing that with the generations and studio series line being separate with some overlap thanks to SS86. But G1 needs more love as they were trampled over by UTshit for a decade and so. Just look at the YouTubers too, there were none when UTshit was at it's prime but as soon as G1 came back they started doing toy reviews and have been making good content for the franchise. Every relevant g1 character was done. The only ones that need redos are mirage and jazz because they aren't diaclone accurate

Kingdom did terrible, and proved every internal hasbro theory right. Beast wars doesn't sell, and theres no such thing as a "beast wars fan", just people gaslighting on 4chan.

Legacy by comparison released banger after banger. It was bangerville in 2021, and they finished off the year with armada starscream, the best transformer of the decade.

Skids will beat any car robot in robot mode any day. 9/10, should've had altmode windows. Its also the only car mode with working doors.

The main issue is that in the Zord Accension Project line, they've decided that each Zord is being made in 1/144 scale, based on stats that only appeared in side media like books and trading cards(IE pulled out of someone's ass 30 years ago). This means that each Zord will be drastically different sizes, despite all the suits for them being roughly the same size IRL and that some Zords can not be made, at least in that scale, as their 'canon' sizes are absolutely massive. This also means that there will never be any monster figures that can be used for all of the Zords because they will either be the wrong size for any other Zord other than the ones from the same season/series

Armada fans haven't got anything in 20 years. It saved transformers. Without armada you wouldn't have the 07 movie and Tf would've died in 03-04. Armada is ten times more important than G1, which was just a butchering of the superior diaclone.

I've been wondering if they could put some more thought and design into the unpopular parts/shell-forming to reach an agreeable middle ground, and the Pretenders would be a good opening for that. Say the shell/parts have some rudimentary transformation that turns anything that pops off into armor / accessories, so it's not just a useless thing you set aside? Just spitballing and most likely production costs would be too high.

I do really enjoy Bomb Burst though.

not sure I understand what you mean. are you saying the pretender concept could be made more palatable by making them similar to either shellformers e.g. Break or partsformers like the old combiners? So the pretender shell comes apart in the transformation and either stays attached or doesn't, but either way forms something useful for the robot inside? but presumably not for the inner robot's altmode?
i'd be okay with that. but I think I'd prefer "pretender shell transforms / comes apart and reassembles into something useful' like a trailer or a vehicle for the inner robot or something.

What are the chances of this Optimus getting repainted into Nemesis? Don't get me wrong, I wish we'd get updated, more posable figures of Armada characters, but I don't have much hope they'd be any decent. Modern TFs are an extremely mixed bag where either they feel awesome and hefty (Kingdom Primal) or like they're made out of paper even if they look great (Jhiaxus). So updates of characters I really want, like Smokescreen, Red Alert and Scavenger would probably either be terribly hollow, or come with no Mini-Con, defeating half of what their charm was for me as a kid.

Yeah, I think we're on the same wave length. Just spitballing really. Mainly I would just like to see the stigma of parts / shell-forming approached differently to arrive at a solution that is practical and not despised by the community. e.g. the Earthrise Ironhide or Cliffjumper.

It may not be cost effective or too big of an ask given, despite the cool engineering and quality of modern Transformers toys, we still get some bullshit where little to no thought is put into alt/vehicle modes resulting in dumb shit like space rectangles like Skullgrin, Shockwave, or BB Movie Soundwave.

I understand it's difficult as it seems they're attempting to reverse engineer the classic looks of these characters into something else, and just ending up with boring alt mode toys instead of a cool space ship, vehicle, or something else.

that mine-scooping vehicle had good claws, they used that for that one movie guy Bonecrusher. they exaggerated em too, and then in robot mode they just sat on his back a more realistic version, the mine fork arm would just become one of his arms.. and then you could give the other arm some too if you wanted to be cool.
if you're not going realistic, you could have the claws turn into a decorative grille cover.

because he was clearly designed first to be the traditional skullgrin inner robot with plug on armor and then they had to go back and redesign him when they decided not to make them have the armor pieces.

The spikes on the shoulder come from INSIDE the shoulder joint. Why wouldn't they just mold a spike into the hard plastic like they did the knees?
Some of the hip armor is white soft plastic, some of it is painted hard plastic, with seemingly no rhyme or reason to which.
He has 5mm ports on the underside of his forarms, making it painfully obvious his blasters are supposed to go there in vehicle mode like the original. It even looks like the white plastic arm frame was originally designed to go on the outside, not the inside.
Oh, and how his head has a hard gray plastic piece on top of the ball joint for no apparent reason. The reason is most likely it started with a normal head.
Hell, he has a 5mm port on his back that he can't use.

I'm betting his skull was supposed to snap on using that 5mm port, and cover his head, his tank treads were supposed to just flip out onto the sides of his legs, and the arms worked like the original.
I bet someone bolder than me can try modding it that way and it'll work amazingly well

Wouldn't even doubt Hasbro want a request like that. Infamously they suggested to the GI Joe cartoon writers if they could just write the scripts but leave the names blank until they got told what toys to use. The producers had to push back and say "you literally can't write tv shows like that".

It's not the second coming of Christ or anything. Because his shoulders are so large, having a double elbow doesn't give the biggest increase in articulation but it's better than constantly butting against them. The spoiler sucks IMO, the three-part design is awkward and doesn't really store away anywhere in robo mode, other than the part that can attach to his ass, which does visually fill in the hip gaps. There's another spoiler set for a buck on Cults3D that I'm going to modify, print out, and give a much more competent paintjob to than the designer could manage. Anyway, the Nonnef set is alright if you're obsessed with dynamic posing like I am. The color matching to the cyan is very poor btw, but I like color schemes that use multiple accent colors. It looks fine breaking the shoulder from the forearm and the engine from the stock spoilers.

I'm not even from the west, I'm from central Yurop. I watched Masterforce in three parts per episode on Youtube circa 2008 or 2007, so I don't really see why shouldn't I like the show. Bulkhead in a vacuum is a pretty decent figure, his problem was trying to pass him off as Prime Bulkhead when he's more just a regular G1ized version of the character in general.

That and they decided to release a superior repaint of him at the same time on Amazon which probably didn't help.
