I've been reading through Kozo Morishita's autobiography and it reveals some fascinating details on G1 Transformers production when he was directing it

Tl;dr G1 Transformers is pretty important to 80s anime and the impression that its just another outsourced US cartoon to Japan that Japan had no creative input on and was viewed as such there is sorely mistaken misinfo. There's so much production info on the Sunbow show (especially with how it relates to directly to Saint Seiya) that I'm surprised none of this has been translated and shared before.

Beast Wars toys were very good even for their time and as such interest in revision is for show accuracy which is an overall small cast. Also much like Reboot and other 90s shows the core fans are not that big into collecting merc. I'd wager that if by some insane chance Rise of Beast is a mega hit and does well we'd see a spike of demand for new figures as time went on.

I think they also made too much beast wars stuff. Recolors were also not baked into beast wars like it was in G1, so those buyers are less tolerant of it.

Hasbro is also competing with itself by releasing reissues alongside new takes on the same characters.

That is a good take on things. When Fox Kids started airing the old show they did reissues of all the cast members, in 2006 they started the 10th anniversary reissues on figures, to then remake Dinobot and Cheetor for the Universe line in 2009 and then did several MPs, and made a few of the cast in the thrilling 30 line and even did few in Animated it's likely why Hasbro skipped in 2016 the 20th anniversary was from how much they were already making. To then roll out the Kenner remakes with the Kingdom line it's not really a big surprise BW fans are more or less sedated.

The Vintage reissues from 2006 and today have been only thing in-name of Beast Wars branding since the original line.

Why would that matter? Have you seen recent Voyagers? The scaling between the new Optimus and Bumblebee will probably be better, but otherwise I doubt the new figures will even come close. Since it's SS and not Legacy I guess there's a slight chance, but I'm not holding my breath.

Strictly speaking in the Studio Series line the Starscream Bumblebee mold is pretty good. Wreckgar I like, Bayformer Optimus is also decent though I got his Leader Class version with the trailer. I don't have any of the others but from what I've seen they're at least good. I expect WFC Optimus to be simplified a bit compared to his old Deluxe toy but with an increase in size it should give him an easier and better transformation and articulation.

SS at this point is just a place for them to put figure they can't fit into the "main" Generations line, there's no real difference in design language between Generations G1 figure and an SS86 one. Hence why Scourge and Cyclonus go together just fine despite being from "separate lines".

Note the talking points were that Beast War toys are still good quality even for today's standards and that they have kept those molds in decent circulation. It's anons finding answer to why most Beast War fans are not consuming at rates like G1/Movie level.

I own both. Huffer is just a much simpler design than Kup; getting Kup to turn into his space pickup mode is a lot more tricky than getting Huffer to turn into his mini-truck mode (largely because Kup was designed for animation first whereas Huffer was adapted from an existing toy).

If you look at Kingdom's beasts it's a noise mess that shows their is no design themes to any of these figures created. Blackarachnia, Dinobot and Rhinox are way more detailed and engineered that Waspator and Scorponok, who verge on Cyberverse toy level of questionable design, yet they are all part of the same line and are put together. You can even see this in Earthrise as well when looking at say Doubledealer to even some of the Deluxe figures like Arcee, and Smokescreen. Then you got even stranger oddities like Legacy Cosmos who is designed engineered as much as SS Hot Rod (amount of pins, screws, paint apps, parts, etc) but was fitted into a Deluxe cost. I really wish I could see behind the scenes on how they make all these choices and decisions.

Yeah, but back then the compromise was often relative simplicity. Even then leaders were not what they used to be, even if I like some of them. I'll always defend CW Megatron for example, but it's so simple you could downscale it to a deluxe without losing anything but maybe some surface cosmetic detail.

I think MP-10 got it right with the sides of the truck swiveling around to make the robot torso transformation more dynamic. It's otherwise very typical. I dislike Siege/ER Optimuses in general, but I find the torso origami especially dumb since still ends up with ass-wheels.

I was thinking of taking Core Class Optimus Prime with me to my MTG commander tournament once. I bring Optimus the card out, then the core class toy comes out. Anytime I "convert" the card from robot to truck mode or vice versa, I'll transform core class Optimus mirroring the card.

I only found one, which I bought, and I've only seen the rest of wave a few times. So while it was short packed I think Walmarts distribution fell through also. Same with wave 2, only seen two cases but atleast my crasher was much much much less stressful to buy. Just waiting for galaxy shuttle to start popping up. Transformers Generations Thrilling 30s Bumblebee w/ Blazemaster

There's something this Bumblebee alt mode that strikes me as so near perfect. More than any high falutin suped-up sports car ever will me.
It's got all these great blended flavours of past Bees. Largely WFC/FOC, with an underlying hint of00 Animated, and a pinch of G1 for a little cartoony bounce.

I think it's the red on the hood and black windows that sell the WFC in this mode. That and the very low ground clearance.
He's a miniature hump of a thing built to got very fast in one direction.

Here's something; this Bumblebee is almost the exact same weight as the new Core Bumblebee (Laserbeak)

Blazemaster is a blue pygmy helicopter with a lil mini-gun up front
His propeller can spin freely with a flick, also you can press it in to more securely lock it in place.

There were considerations of Legacy Armada Starscream sharing the same mold as the Rise Starscream but clearly the game was scrapped so early that never made it through. I almost feel like they have to be as they couldn't keep prototype leaks of other figures from this line hidden but somehow it's not happening with these and the only way that adds up is if their is nothing to prototype. the only comics they were in that weren't explicitly named GI JOE VS TRANSFORMERS were transformers vs gi joe and some of the latter half of IDW, but by then if you don't realize they're essentially main characters by issue 5 of the earth- based stuff you're reading comics wrong. i get if it you think they got excessive with IDW's actual "everything hasbro!!" approach but complaining about TF's sister brand piggybacking off two successful comic runs to sell more comics, briefly, in 1/2 of their run, 7 years ago, seems weird

The arms not flipping up to narrow the jet is unacceptable. The shoulders clearly being Cyclonus's really detracts fro. The robot mode as well. I don't know about the rest of you, but the sloped shoulders are an iconic part of Cyclonus's design. Not to the level of his ears or abs, but definitely the third most important thing about the design. Seeing it front and center on a bot that shouldn't have them really draws the eye...

The sculpt is good but severely lacking in paints & the way it's made Toyhax can't possibly sticker this up to fix it. It's like that McFarlane Lobo figure. That made me think, I'd LOVE to see a line of roleplay toy targetmasters that transform from Human-sized nerf blaster to robot, like the 80's era Gobot Robogun.

If you look at just the carded figures there's decent variety, and only two are redecos. It's all the pack-ins that redeco the existing molds to oblivion.

Not really, you have an Axe, a Sword, a Hammer and a Shield (I do not count the Cassette bots since those are Soundwave/Soundblaster specific). And then you have the Guns which are all the same Targetmaster type guns. These choices are fine and make sense in the world of G1 but that's about it, there's no Missile pods Battlemaster, no bot with a Pilebunker alt mode, no Gatling Gun or a Tonfa etc. It has been just the basic well known type of weapons and Targetmasters. Which is why I'm glad the mainline RotB is continuing the line with some interesting choices.

Axe, sword, hammer, shield, gun. That's 5 types of weapons. There were 12 carded releases. I'd say that's a fair amount of variety. Rung is a unique mold which is supposed to be something else (I think a scanner), so one could argue 6 types.

He was great as a kid, It transformed into a robot (very little articulation, but it was robot so it was automatically cool) and in gun mode it was working double-barrel cap gun with two different triggers. I had him as a kid and I wish i still had him.

There were also a bunch of gobots waterguns that did the same.

The "giant glass canopy" that defined the entire look of Jetsons vehicles as a spoof on some 50s concept vehicles like the FX-Atmos is lacking on them. The old future look to vehicles is still there, but Arcee and Blurr of the '86 gang lean harder into it. Of course, that is just vehicle modes. Tin-looking Transformers with random guages and coils and such sound interesting, but there is only one sort of example I can think of.
