>>10260205The difference with watching a sporting event or a video game tournament is that you may have some investment in a player/team at that event. You can root for your country in the Olympics or World Cup, you can root for your favorite player at a game tournament because he mains the same character that you do. You're watching them live because things like the Olympics or EVO are a spectator event - an event that's meant to be watched by an audience.
WonFes on the other hand isn't a spectator event - it's an event for companies and individuals to showcase products they are selling there or are planning to sell. To loop back to
>giving a shit about big brand crap at a event for smaller works from people that make their own stuff for a moment, It's not that people only give a shit about the big brand crap because they don't care about the small fries in the Garage Kit booths. It's that they give a crap about the big brand stuff because that's the only stuff that they can actually purchase normally without having to go through the hassle of either getting a middleman to wait in line for the chance to get a kit that only had 20 copies made or flying to Japan themselves and spending thousands of dollars on airline tickets/hotels/etc to spend $80 on a garage kit they saw. Those who can actually manage to go in and purchase GKs in person are free to enjoy it for that purpose, but for the 99% of people here that aren't living/commuting to Japan most things regarding GKs are just "Wow that looks cool" or "I wish that was a retail release".
Yes I'm not going to be at WonFes personally, but I can still go read about what was revealed there and go "Yeah I want to buy that" for whatever Medicos or Sentinel or Aoshima or whoever is putting out. I can't do the same for whatever garage kit circles are there this year.
