Picked this up for $250, complete and in really good condition. I've been watching the price on this thing go up and up over the past couple months, a long with some of the earlier modulars. For whatever reason it seems like the last few months have brought in a ton of interest in old sets. After announcing we're, getting some of the shittiest picks from the new Ideas sets I'm not necessarily surprised.

I've wanted that set since I was very young. I love Adventurers, and Egypt as a setting in general. Though if I had to pick an Adventurer's set to buy now, it'd probably be Dragon Fortress so i'd finally have all the sets with the golden pieces.

I am however grabbing something Egypt related this month, as a friend is moving out of country and selling me a nearly complete collection of Pharoah's Quest (missing the smallest set with the beetle) for $250.

I imagine a lot of the interest is a mix of YouTubers putting on spotlights, new sets being shitty, and the influx of people into the hobby looking at what once was.

So along with that Exo Force set I got the last Bricklink order I needed to complete this. Asides from a black technic connector that I can go look for later I'm calling this thing pretty much done.

This isn't even a small portion of what I got since last year, and I've built 3 sets out of about 200. I don't know whats wrong with me. I buy the sets, and think one day I'll get to them, and never do. I think at this point, I'm just getting them for when my wife and I want kids.

I swapped out the hand panels for some 4x3 slopes so I still had these samurai looking panels to use, so I made a cleaner back for him instead of just having antistuds visible. Alongside the mods to the engines that got rid of the pearl gold in favor of white I also added some tubing that connected to the back to act as a powersource for them.

I also gave him less of a hunched over look by swapping out the 1x2 brick with axle hole for a 1x1 with axle hole. It looks a little better, but I'm not a fan of the gap created as a result.

Forgot to mention before but I built a brickbuilt replacement for the missile launchers since I wanna use those for something else down the line. Asides from a few more colorswaps for brackets and the like for color consistency I'm gonna call this done.

Also finished putting together 8107, the whole thing ended up being like 99% complete (Only missing parts were a dark red roof piece and some plates, which I can fish around for later). The Sonic Raven was 100% complete too.

Decided pretty last minute that I wanted to get the Bionicle GWP, and ended up picking The Heavenly Realms to get me there. I think it looks pretty nice. Not sure if I'll have funds available for the Moving Truck GWP two weeks from now though.

Don't get any of them, they're 8-stud shit. The 6-stud Speed Champions are far better in looks and build and more accurate in scaling with the minifigs. They also fit in City very well.

Maybe try buying stuff you really really want and when it's on sale. I have a few sets in the closet too. Plus some clearance sets I told myself I was going to flip but I got them like 7 years ago. I think that's also the moment I started hoarding, just buying stuff and not even using it like games, books, records, etc. Had to toss a bunch of Amazon boxes because I kept telling myself I was gonna use them to sell some of this stuff but it never happened.

I'd say the Lamborghini, Ferrari and Dodge Charger were the most fun to build. Lots of new build techniques for such a miniature model. The Aston Martin is better than the picture suggests up close. 6 stud or 8 stud quarrels are a bit anal imo they're just too neat to ignore and they look nice on a shelf. The designers expanded the width to open up more options to make it accurate to the scale. They're compact enough so they don't clutter up shelf space too much so factor that in and they're way better than those janky "Racer" lines they did during the early 00s

Man I am a hoarder, Im a terrible datahoarder too with a 80TB FreeNAS server ready to install in my rack. Currently have a 30TB Synology server running Plex and phone/computer backups for my family. Still have to terminate the eth cords going from every room and set up my security cameras. Just moved in 2 months ago and still getting situated.

the football one was 10/10, i honestly spent hundreds of hours playing it with my friends
basketball was kinda meh, fun at first but there's much less you can do when you have to pick up the ball from the ground before you can throw it, the games were much slower and less dynamic than football

I owned the biggest basketball set for a short while. Never built it because most of it was sealed. Kinda wish I did. My original plan was to complete and flip it, but in the end I gave it to some kids and presumably they loved the shit out of it.
Would be fun to get the snowboarding sets though, I've always been curious about them

That's maximum height for the standard hg scale base. it's not much. Maybe a master grade size base would work better but a lego built one would be ideal if you have any ideas.

I did, but from what I saw it was just all the players from the team on their side of the field. That seems like it would make it more difficult to play if there wasn't any way to get a player on the other side of the field, so that they could possibly get closer to the opponent goal, and thus scoring more points and winning the game. I just think it is weird to have a game where all players of a team are stuck on one side of the field. That just makes trying to get a goal difficult, if not impossible.

I have 9 bins and I sort by color. Red/Pink, Yellow/Orange, Green, Blue/Violet, Black, White, Gray, Brown/Tan, Dark Gray, Light Gray. Not even the CCBS part with rubber (don't remember what it's called) for extra friction is enough for the ankles to handle the Titan's mass. I guess Lego still has ways to go before they can make articulated ankles that won't cause the Titan to fall on its front or back. They need to experiment with Ratchet joints once more.

I think there are enough techniques now with things like friction joints, pistons that the Bioncle Titans used, and other such solutions that they could create functional ankles. They sometimes have fully articulated ankles with no knees, but now with knees no ankles. I would guess it's certainly for the sake of stability. Not much less fun than a Titan mech that some kid didn't leave in a stable pose collapsing in the middle of the night and breaks into a bunch of parts, so I can see where potential trepidation exists. Just being overly cautious, even.

Same, I have "Plates, Modified Plates, Bricks, Modified Bricks, Tiles, Slopes, Minifig, Technic, Bionicle, Brackets,

and I separate my pins, axles, etc into groups just by themselves because I have so many. I keep Pins with and without friction separate which is thankfully easy since they only usually come in one color each. Axles I keep sorted by length, so a bunch of 2L a bunch of 3L, a bunch of 4L, and the 5L+ just kinda hang together.

see above. clearanced sets, on sale, promos, etc. When I can get a set for 50-60% off, I'll buy it. Then on Lego's website, a good GWP or DoubleVIP points, stacked with a Honey offer, stacked with percent cash back. During Christmas when they had good GWP and Double VIP, only bought sets that I had my eye on and stacked with a Honey exclusive offer. Spent like $800, Credit card had a 5% cash back for Lego, and got back $200 from Honey rewards, than another ~10% thanks to Lego VIP, and then selling one of the extra GWP I had on eBay. So when I can get back $350 on a $800 purchase, it's not a bad deal.

Also looking at Target clearance, and stacking with Target circle offers, sale ads (20% off Lego but they seem to do that one once or twice a year), and then buying Gift Cards at Kroger during 4x fuel points (with 4x fuel points, and using all 35 gallons, I can get 35 gallons for pennies, and ends up being 16-17% off the purchase and needed gas anyway), and stacking with my Discover 2% CB buying the gift cards. Then I typically trade a lot of sets on FB Marketplace, OfferUp, or NextDoor. I've sold a handful of the GWP, and traded another handful.

Brickseek in my area is good since I live in a major-ish US city and have over a dozen Walmarts within spitting distance.

There's ways to buy Lego without spending close to the MSRP.

Lego sales are a lot less common, but Target this week had 20% off of some City and other shit sets. But the flat 20% off Target usually happens in the summer.

I'm pretty newly back to lego (cause of the Tahu GWP), is this stuff actually that common? I have a few sets from getting the set, like the Monkie Kid Combi Mech, and got a clearance Zurg and Wolverine mech and they all seem pretty solid so far. It has fuck-all to do with factories - they're ALL shit since the "recent" base translucent ABS pellets that get its color added during the moulding process together with production capacities nearly at their limit are the main culprit.
I'm from Europe and have tons of sets that just stood around crack on their own after a while and I highly doubt that every fucking store around here gets their sets from a Mexican factory.

Found a lot of my old childhood lego's while going through my recently deceased father's house. Just rebuilt the 6076 dragon's den. One last question mech anons. Working on a mech for the pink lacus clyne/sheryl nome type girl character. Doesn't use a gun, uses a staff for space magic/summoning/holograms etc.

Lego finally makes high quality detailed but compact minifigure scale models that COBI, MegaBloks and the Chinks have been making for years and I hope they finally realise ALL of those third party makers have long since switched to printed pieces as standard for a good reason. Need help identifying a very basic and small early 2000s LEGO set. It was a kids set, not sure if DUPLO because the pieces were normal and not those big DUPLO ones. Basically it was a cat person made up of one yellow big head piece, a blue torso piece, legs and feet. I can't remember what the legs looked like but I have drawn how I remember it to the best of my ability (pic related).

Using Punk Rocker girl. Only have Kitty pop girl, cotton candy cheerleader and N-POP Girl for pink hair minifigs.

A whole elite squadron using all the pink hair girls would be nice. Bruni is extremely underrated. Would highly recommend if you can still find one. Very cute and works well is a companion for marvel sized mechs.

I've tried going back to collecting Transformers, vidya, etc. but it's all bland. I'm no NEET, I have a full time job and not a burger-flipping one either, I'm not a fatty or otherwise in poor physical health, but I'm stuck in my parents' attic out of college, while saving and waiting for housing to get cheaper. I do get satisfaction from helping acquaintances, but a lot of my old friends don't seem interested in hanging with me other than over occasional zoom calls, even though I've literally told them I'm available as free labor if they want help moving or other such shit.

I mean, to put a positive spin on anhedonia, it does make saving for a down payment easier, but it sucks feeling like my entire life is on hold and my only other options are to rent an apartment or buy an overpriced shithole to salve my ego but burn money in the process.

i haven't done serious build in a while but do still enjoy my mocs and figures a lot and buy a few occasional pieces to give them new outfits and scatter them around my little street

hobbies and interest go in ebb and flows and you don't have to feel like you have to force them
be wary of going full lmao and sell it all on a whim as the other side of the extreme
especially for lego and custom stuff that can be a pain if you do get the itch again
was really active here for the longest time but haven't been for a while now and started checking this place out again

How do you guys reason around new vs used condition? For example I have a lot of older (3-5 years) mini figs which I have just assembled and put in a ziplock bag and stashed in a cool dark place.

I would still consider those new. I see a lot of sellers putting the condition to used but adding “like new” but I feel like that undersells the condition since these have barely been handled since out of box.

My favourite face designs are the 90s ones with classic smiley plus other features (eg beards). Having only plain smileys is a bit restrictive, but too much detail has other problems. A squad of soldiers with classic smileys looks like a normal squad of soldiers. A squad of soldiers with picrel looks like clone troopers. I like to use plain smileys for most figs and sprinkle smiley-compatible faces in for some variety.

I know the whole "Hurr inflation" thing is a bit overplayed, but everything is increasing in price, not just Lego. For a toy example in 2008 a Deluxe Transformer cost $10, 15 years later it's $25 for one. For a non-toy example, just look at how the MSRP for video games has been creeping up from $50 in the 360/PS3/Wii era to $60 in the Xbone/PS4/WiiU era to $70 in the Series X/PS5/Switch era.

Yes $400 for a lego set is a bit excessive but for something celebratory like the Lion Knights castle that comes with 22 minifigs and a variety of building techniques and 0 stickers I can let it slide the once. That's not to say I want $400 sets to be the norm, however. I still find shit like that $600 Eiffel Tower or those Football stadiums to be shit, and the Collectors Edition Hogwarts Express to be a complete disaster of a set. But for something that's supposed to be celebratory of Lego's 90 year anniversary and Classic Castle as a whole I can be okay with one really huge Lego set.

Honestly, if there's any set you could link to Lego's obsession with huge $400+ lego sets it's probably this one.

When the term "Classic" is used it typically refers to the quadrilogy of Classic Castle/Space/Town/Pirates. City may be the next stage of evolution from Town to Town Jr to World City to City, but it's by all means considered a whole separate thing these days.

I had an idea for a Lego City Undercover sequel, it would be crossover with Lego City Adventures, and it would have both casts meeting eachother. Maybe have Duke DeTain solving crimes with Chase McCain, so you could have two player co-op without needing to rely on a Chase McCain clone, like the remastered version did.
Sadly, since Lego City Adventures ended last year and the last time we saw Chase McCain was over 6 years ago, I don't think it'll happen anytime soon.

Notes:
This was the very first LEGO house that was intended to house the newly designed minifigs. As we can see on the picture, it looks as though the house is two houses next to each other, but it’s actually because you can fold the house out via hinges on the house.

The two happy minfigs can enjoy their cosy garden, practically secluded from the busy streets of LEGO Town. Out here they can sunbath or sit and relax in front of their outdoor fireplace. Inside they can watch TV on their small television or sit at the dinner table in the small kitchen where they can wash up by the neat sink. All in all this first Classic LEGO house is a wonderful part of the, at the time, newly established LEGO Town.

This very first house can of course be found on various internet sites, which deal with used LEGO. The price for a used complete set (with original stickers) is on Bricklink.com for sale for around 120 dollars. There is currently (April 2011) a mint sealed set for sale at 800 dollars (that’s the slightly newer 1979 version of the set 560).

So here is the deal. I don't know if you noticed but there have been less and less original lego themes over the years and I think I know why. Usually those themes are meant to last for 3 years and then their gone. But with Hidden Side, Vidyo and Monkie Kid I think Lego has changed their goal. They want to turn these themes into long running evergreen themes like City, Friends and Ninjago. If thats not possible it will get dumped faster than you can say AFOL. They succeded with Monkie Kid but that's to be expected considering it's made for the chinese market. So if Dreamzzz doesn't do well, we will likely have to wait even longer for another original Lego theme. If that leak is true then Dreamzzz will get a TV show. That's already better than what Hidden Side got with it's shorts. Unfortunetly this place is a hellscape of jadedness and I know without a doubt that as soon as the first images of these sets will be posted, shit will hit the fan. So if I were (You) I would set my expectation down as much as possible and just be happy we get another original theme.

(+ trans clear, red, orange, yellow, blue, green, purple, pink)

Anything else is bloat.

Not to mention the more tones and "realistic" color they add, the more jarring and out of place the saturated yellow skin on the minifigs feels. Also a friendly reminder that one of the reasons Lego quality is rapidly decreasing is that the expanded pallet made them switch from precolored ABS to virgin ABS that has color added afterwards(which also contributes to less standardized production meaning you're likely to get inconsistencies and slightly off-color pieces that were supposed to be the same color)

Dots was worth developing in theory because the design and manufacturing costs were trivial compared to conventional sets. Despite that, and a moderate effort to market it, the market just didn't respond with enough sales because it's a soulless product. Dots worked as gifts, but nobody was really interested enough to buy them for themselves. Unironically bricksellers made out best because they could get a variety of niche tiles to supplement their inventories for relatively cheap when purchased on clearance and in bulk.
