Shout out to the anon from a few threads ago who brought the nonnef upgrade kit for pointblank to my attention, really helps a lot just having that proper elbow range, the fin weapon is a basic but appreciated addition as well

The articulation is super stiff in the arms though, im being careful moving it cuz i fear the plastic might snap, its not that i tightened the screws too much, its just the friction

Also the swivel and the car hood piece have very specific clearances so while the articulation is greatly improved, you've gotta be more careful with it

The blues are also completely different shades, the toy is more teal leaning, the nonnef set is baby blue, it doesnt bother me at all but worth mentioning

The set also comes with a little adaptor piece to put in the middle of the fin so the target master can slot in it but it looks dumb as fuck so i opted to forget about it

Oh yeah, in the instructional video on their YouTube channel theres a bit where they mention the elbow pegs had to be a little oversized to accommodate that for some reason not every pointblank is the same size or some shit, they say you might have to force it on your copy but should just be a small stress mark, not visible on the outside

Well on my copy one of his arms was perfect fit, the other was way too fucking small, literally had to shatter open the little hole to make it fight, hurt my damn fingers pushing so hard

They are right though, not visible at all unless i bend the elbow all the way out and look directly into his arm, but still, oof

Overall, a very worthwhile set, that arm articulation was laughably pathetic

The vehicle mode for the the new Titan is pretty much going to be just copypaste of the Nemesis. Now you too can spend $200 dollars on something that crashed in the first episode and only appreared once again in a TV show that lasted for years. Even the replacement ship they made and crashed instantly was rebuilt into one of their many bases.

Why not? The toyline isn't constrained to the limits of a nearly 40 year old cartoon, which is why it transforms at all. Myself I'd love it if she has a snake tail, so her robot mode is a colossal mecha-lamia.

Some vintage copies have die-cast too. Various combiner teams had metal vs plastic versions.

The original reissue is G1 toy color accurate. The 2nd reissue is what you have there. The 3rd reissue, Hasbro's Platinum version, is that + some extra parts.

God damn. I was so excited to get Legacy Metalhawk, and don't get me wrong, the transformation is fun if simplistic, but he just looks so fucking cheap. The yellow plastic of his torso and head just looks and feels like a toddler's toy's plastic. And it certainly doesn't help that because of the cutaway plastic-free window his nose is scuffed. Is this my punishment for being a Pretenders fan?

A fridge is a small, white box that light can easily bounce around in, and the lights pass through a diffuser panel making it soft.

For great photos, if you don't have a real camera, here's a good tip.

Make sure your phone cam is set to save the raw as well as jpg, then open it up in a free image editor like Photoshop express.
Then focus on adjusting exposure, shadows, highlights, black levels and white levels.
Then compare that raw image to the jpg version. If it's better, then you know your phone is over processing (happens a lot with social media targeting phones) and you should stick with raws. If the jpg is better, your phone has great processing and you should keep doing it that way

Did some particular toyline really fuck up people's perceptions?
Was it just that when Generations rolled out, their voyagers were leader sized?
The original transformers toyline typically only had 2-4 "leaders" a year, and those were somewhere between the current leaders and commander class sized.

Seems like more often than not, we had a "minibot" class size (nowadays core class), a basic car class (nowadays deluxe) a basic jet class (nowadays voyager) and usually one size bigger.
But that bigger size is now split between leader and commander.
The closest thing we have to what a modern leader is would be G1 ultra magnus, who retailed for about 30 bucks. Today's money that would be 80 bucks, so just under commander pricing.

I'm avoiding the guys that are a little bigger than that because they almost ENTIRELY came with electronics or extra figures, which make it a little harder to compare to anything modern.

I have to wonder if the reason so many people complain about the size is because they only got back into collecting TFs when the live action movies came out and they really went balls in on bigger toys to make sure it caught kids attention and now that everything's back to normal, it seems like it's a downgrade when it's not

He has a very good reason to be hyped. The fact his Armada design has never been revisited for almost 20 years if you don't count his Bendy Prime repaints over the years. He's to this day still the most unique and detached Optimus Prime design yet still looking like him and his Super Mode is also unique for not being a simple backpack with boots, instead being an entirely new pants. Not to mention this is coming after almost years of endless G1 Optimus Primes who either don't come with a trailer or does come with a trailer but is practically just a box and doesn't do anything else other than be a battle station.

Yeah, because they didn't put them out for the first month.
Most walmarts didn't get them at all until 3 or 4 weeks after others did. Which caused them to clog the shelves because walmart had an entire month of backstock.

ah, the bigger thing is managing price and the public's perception of what they are getting.

Here's the thing, When bumblebee came out, he was like $4. A constructicon was like 5 to 6. With the constructicons, that was a lot of toy. They had to find a way to keep that ball rolling at the same price point while things got more expensive in Japan.

So they came up with the Airelbots and stunticons. About the same size, usually 4 to 5 dollars. Not as complicated as the constructicons but still pretty good.

Then you had Protectobots and Combaticons. Still pretty good. Still about $5 each.

This was 1986. They tried a lot of different things that year. That tried a lot of larger bots. Your bases and your sky lynx etc. Even a big bot combiner with Predaking.

I guess all the large bots didn't fully pan out because in 87 you saw more small bot gimmicks. Your headmasters, action masters, throttlebots, target masters, etc. We also saw our first big hit on combiner quality. The terrorcons and technobots, no matter how much I love them, were a step down from the previous scramble city bots. They also moved production to macau to keep the price down to $5.

88 you had the seacons. Sculpts were better than the terrorcons and technobots, but they added a 6th member to wrangle out more money from parents. Lots of smaller versions of last years lines. Small target masters, small power masters, small head masters.

In 88 we also saw the begining of the end caused by the cheap out. That was the year we got pretenders. Pretenders were the result of doing everything possible to get money out of the toys. To keep the price down.

Things continued to get worse and in 89 we got the micromasters. They were an attempt to keep the $5 price point while keeping the transformations.

We also got the pretender combiner monstructor that year. Look up a picture of those guys and compare them to the first couple combiners. Way way cheaper made. Looks like happy meal toys in comparison. But they had the same price point.

in 1990, G1 was officially over. A few micromasters sputtered out, but everything eventually shifted to action masters.

essentially Hasbro made the bulk of its money off of the $5 bots. And they chased that $5 until they eventually ended up with GI Joes that looked like robots.

Hasbro knew this all the way back when the show started and thats why most of the season 1 and 2 bots that survived the 86 movie were the ones that were just $5 while a lot of the pricer ones died.

The constructions, arielbots, protectobots, and stunticons were all designed years before, they couldn't make running changes.
The biggest factor in the other toys changing sizes in g1 was different designers working on them.

beast wars was a gift and a curse.

Everyone obsesses over posing shit now even though they leave most figures standing. It kind of limits what can be done with transformations. Combining with the garbage heap that are the movie figures and the impact that has had, god. I fucking hate movie TFs and the other bots inspired by them. You just fold shit into a ball and then all the outside panels stay in place with little 25 mm tabs. It sucks and there is no zen to it.

On the other hand, I guess beast wars was at the start of the articulation renascence. I hope we never go back to old shit where everything is preposed with two or three joints

I wonder, was beast wars the first? I'd have to go back and look. I know the marvel stuff at the time was still doing like heman and tmnt preosed stuff with only being able to turn the head, and turn at the hips and shoulders. Same with batman figs, gargoyles and star wars.

I guess classic joes had a lot of articulation, but they all kind of had a generic look to them too.

Kids today don't know how good they have it when it comes to articulation. They want to call G1 transformers bricks, but everything was almost a brick.

Kids bitching about not getting ankle joints. They just dont know

Funny thing is I really didn't care about articulation as a kid, but then I found myself having a lot of fun with figures like the Laser Rods and Laser Prime. I don't think anyone says the big titty part. Though she might trigger that part of the brain. Its probably the same thing that happened with April O'Neil. There are frames where Arcee's hips are as wide or wider than her shoulders. Frames where her waist is small. Shots showing just how much bigger her waist and chest is than Daniel. Like each hip is bigger than Daniel. One tit would be the size of denial. Daniel and Arcee are oddly loving in the last 3 episodes too. I think little kid brains just gravitate to these specific images. They have done studies where kids pay attatention to attractive women more than average women and both would rather have attractive women toys if given the choice. There are plenty of frames where Arcee is pretty ordinary looking, just like April. Imo kids mostly forget that and only remember the few stimulating ones.

Image related might be the one that fused the idea of her having a large butt into the minds of young kids. They straight up snuck a pinup pose into the cartoon.

And the hip skirts on Optimus that becomes his Super Mode shoulder pads can open and move out of the way to allow the legs full range of its hip articulation. Think how you would move the skirt armor on any Gundam kits or Robot Damashii to allow the leg to move unimpeded.

I realize that, but I don't think kids care. Kids seem to define characters by their most stimulating moments in a show, not by average or bad ones.

Its not uncommon for kids to remember shows as being awesome, only to go back and find the show really boring or bad when rewatching as an adult. Voltron and heman are pretty good examples. Lots of people commented when the shows first came out on dvd that they didn't remember how bad the writing was for the heroes.
