Not a big loss. The set was UGLY. Ugly as fuck. Somehow they made it even worse than previous version. Yeah, it wasn't great. In fact it also sucked but at least captured 'ancient temple' feeling while new one looks like some Ninjago tentacle monster out of space.

Too expensive of a licence. For example if you want to do DB, Naruto and Jojo sets you need to ask Shueishia, the respective artist for each and possibly the anime production company if you want to use filler characters like Cooler or Bojack and maybe some specific character design for jojo since the manga doesn't have canon colors so possibly David Prod. owns black and grey Jotaro, pink Giorno, etc. While on the contrary you can ask WB for the DC licence and they give you Batman, Superman, the other heroes and the villains. Very clearly one is a much better deal

What you people fail to grasp is that Indy is predicted to flop hard on cinemas. No kids will buy that crap. Even avatar which did well at the box office is struggling to sell, mass producing these sets would be a loss for the company. They are better off sticking with the idol temple escape diorama, overprice the fuck out of it and sell it on a smaller scale to adult AFOLs who will throw their wallets at Lego

I always assumed it was for culture reasons. Standards for violence and sexuality in Japanese cartoons meant for kids/teens are too different from Lego's usual fare and would punch holes in what Lego deems acceptable to make sets of. Indiana Jones has never been a franchise that's very conducive for selling toys or merchandising. Adventures kind of worked out for Lego because it allowed them creative freedom to make things more fantastical and lighthearted than they can stuck with the Indy franchise. With the exception of Dino Island, Adventures takes more inspiration from campy old horror adventure movies from the 50s,60s, and early 70s than it does from Indy. Well the lego instructions are kind of glossy, right. So there's either plasticizer or wax to make them shinier.
I suppose a hot iron with light humidity would straighten out paper, the question is is it better to do low temp for a while or high temp and just quickly smooth them out. Don't want to discolour or burn the finish on the page.

Maybe test out with like the pamphlets that come with the collectable minifigures? They're similar paper i think

If the set was cancelled because it offended someone, and not because of design issues, then that creates a dangerous precedent. It establishes that as long as someone cries offence, they can potentially get any set cancelled, which could possibly include sets that you or I do want to see.

Even if they do a LoTR that's entirely their own with no connection to any previous version of the story, it would still be a licensed theme due to being based off of the books.

Neat use of different shades of blue to represent the water surface and the sea floor. A fairly good representation of the reef homes from the new movie.

If you watch any of those "Lego Designer" videos (and you should), you'd know that they have a thing over there called "Stability Guidelines", which pretty much just means that designers are not allowed to make sets that can *too* easily fall apart.

Aesthetically I think there's a fine line between Lego being too detailed (i.e. SNOT) and not detailed enough (in this case minecraft). The builds just seems too similar to duplo for me to like it.

Minecraft sets are nice for being more blocky, and emphasising creativity which is what lego (and minecraft) are all about. I'll welcome that to kids over too much of following thr instructions sets. My kids play with their lego sets, break them a bit, rebuild them in new different ways so I like the minecraft ones. There are a few too many smooth plates for my liking however. Really they should just dona "minecraft tub" of hundreds of pieces and a few ground plates, then advertise different themes/biomes but let you do your own thing with a booklet of a few building ideas but no instructions

When have I said I liked it or thought it was a good set you stupid cunt? For the most part I have no interest in any of the Indy sets, because I don't really care about the property as a whole. I probably wouldn't have bought the set if it was released and if they do end up releasing it I still probably won't buy it unless I find it on some sort of super discount.

But you know what sets I'd like to see? That I would definitely buy, in large quantities? Lord of the Rings battlepacks. I would fucking love a series of battlepacks featuring the various armies of Middle Earth. Like a men of Minis Tirith battlepack, a Riders of Rohan battlepack, and a Easterling and a Southron battlepacks. Hell I want a large brick built Mûmakil/Oliphaunt with it's battle tower covered in Haradrim.
But that probably won't happen, because there's a chance that anything featuring the Easterling or Haradrim will be labelled offensive. There's already a bunch of whiny shits, crapping on about how Lord of the Rings is racist because the brown and asian people are "evil men". If the Temple of Doom set really was cancelled because someone whined about it, or even just because Lego thought people might, then that makes the chances of a Haradrim or Easterling battlepack even less likely.

I like trees and thin columnwork amd landscaping, the buildings and main bummer the fact that its not even a half facade is a instant no buy for me. Also, that roof is nice on miniature but i can only imagine all the cracks and dirt getting stuck there. Castle isnt a perfect build, but its large set thats completed, rivendell set feel like you need to buy two to make a moc of finished build.

Most classic sets had Baseplates, even the smaller sets; they would get a smaller Baseplate. Baseplates are awesome they give you so much freedom to do what you want and build what you like. Nowadays most sets (even big £80+ sets) don’t have Baseplates. This sucks.

Does anon have on of these? The princess peach one specifically. Just got one of these from a friend as part of a trade. I don't collect these so I don't have mario or luigi to compare it to but is this normal? The LED seems like it's way too bright and almost shines through the plastic. I also find the legs/skirt attatch very loosely to the ground (even those red/green/blue platform plates, the grip is weak). Is this also normal? I lost the penguin feet so I can't switch the legs to test it out. No interest in this theme beyond peach and maybe bowsers airship.

The legs are supposed to be a bit loose so you can play the game and move the characters around, but the light on my Mario and Luigi doesn't shine through like that, maybe the Peach used a different plastic color or batch that lets more light through?

NTA but postmodernism rejects objectivity and realism. I remember an Anon posted an explanation here a while ago about how Lego is creating postmodern themes instead of classic themes because that's what kids today are exposed to in media and will buy. Monkie Kid was used as an example, the sets are various random nonsensical things (eg a tank shaped like a bowl of noodles piloted by a pig fighting a panda robot) and don't follow a consistent unified aesthetic like older themes did. Ninjago is also an example, it combines multiple themes in a surreal way. As in they're ninjas fighting with medieval weapons, but then they also have fighter jets and giant motorbikes, etc.

Now I know this gripe will cause anger, there are a lot of SW and HP nuts out there and they are about to be == by a similar number of LOTR fanatics, so firstly I will state it.
I like these sets; I love SW; I love all Licensed LEGO magic and I understand that the sets are an important revenue stream for LEGO and some are released with movies.
My problem with the licensed themes comes in 3 forms.
1st it is the lack of imagination it gives to children (I mentioned it above read #5 to remind yourself if you have no idea what I’m saying now).
My 2nd with it is the cost, yes I know they have to pay for the licence but the sets are so much more and for a child with limited pocket money it just starts looking unfair. We all want Darth Vader and Chewy minifigs but this sort of purchase is at least 20% more than the cost of a non-licensed set (and can go even higher).
Average that out over the 5 years a child will normally collect LEGO (6-11) and they will have a much smaller collection. This smaller collection will again be tailor made to their theme and will allow little in the way of original building (wait I'm going back to point 1 again). It’s just that a child’s money is special and to charge the most for the sets he (or she) is most likely to want seems a bit miserly.My final and biggest problem with the licensed themes is the sheer number of them and the question of what could have been build instead. We have so many licensed themes that last a short while and then disappear; why go to all the trouble to release a theme when it lasts such a short amount of time?
Instead of having designers working on ‘Prince of Persia’, 'Toy Story' and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ sets for a year why not have a range that is worth something and doesn’t leave the collector felling like a jilted lover dumped halfway through their fourth date (the date just after they had put out)?
Imagine what LEGO could have designed without their overreliance on licensed themes?
