I can't get down with his proportions, but it's not TOO bad. of course I was never a gigantic UT fan. This was one of the cooler designs though, I love the legs-into-arms for supermode. and my inner 7 year old thinks the idea of a robot who can wear other robots as pants is fucking great.

Finally, an effective Super Mode from Hasbro and TT. And they also removed that dumb, pointless "base mode" in Armada Prime's trailer that dragged down the toy by adding an electronic feature that will literally cook itself while auto-morphing!

Say, on a related, yet different note, has anyone given their Legacy Starscream's Star Saber to Legacy Evo Hot Shot? Seems too worthy as a pair. And when do you guys think will we get the Skyboom Shield and Requiem Blaster? Requiem Blaster definitely is going to Armada Megatron, but not sure about the shield.

oh ginrai, right right. yeah that requires a trailer to become basically an entire body, and that's more work. With becoming just legs, you have the advantage that it's normal for a waist to have sort of a disconnect. the attachment point can make a waist swivel.

as much as I hate bases and I think most electronic gimmicks were never worth the trouble and expense, I do imagine the original toy rocked tons of kids' minds by having the cab robot actually send a signal to the trailer to change forms.

Kinda silly how they don't even try to explain how the legs work. You see them begin to transform just like the toy, then the camera cuts away and next time you see them they're somehow actual legs and not just a glorified stand.

So, I finally got a chance to look at Battletrap and transform him a few times. He's not bad - not as over-the-top greebly as the Bayverse stuff, and he's got a really cool head. Upon closer inspection, it seems he may have originally been planned to have a light-piping feature for his eyes, but that didn't make it into the final toy. Also, while he has ankle tilts and waist rotation, he seems to be lacking wrist rotation (seriosuly, Hasbro? I thought Studio Series had the budget for that), but since he doesn't use a gun or sword, I guess he can get away with not having them. Instead, his primary weapons seem to be the two halves of his tow-hook, which can extend out from under his arms so he can swing them around; he also has a retooled version of Legacy/Wreck N' Rule Bulkhead's handheld mace, which functions exactly the same way and can stow on his robot mode back when not in use. You can also attach the mace to the end of either tow-hook to give him an actual flail like his box art shows (see my last pic), so that's pretty cool. The light bar that sits on top of his cab in vehicle mode splits in half and sits on both of his shoulders in robot mode - the insides have molded details that make it look like the two halves act as shoulder-mounted rocket launchers or guns of some sort in robot mode, so he's not completely without ranged weaponry.

Vehicle mode looks pretty nice, and the transformation is pretty neat - his chest halves fold up to hide the head, the roof and real front bumper fold down and fill in the gap, his arms swing around behind him and snap together to make his tow-hook, and his legs snap together and then bend sideways to fold up against themselves in a manner that reminds me of T30 Sandstorm's/Springer's leg transformation for their buggy mode. His mace clips onto the end of the tow-hook like a mini wrecking-ball, so he has weapon storage in both modes. Unfortunately, the tow-hook itself doesn't have much mobility, and his hands are jsut kinda hanging out on top of them in full view. Still, the overall look is pretty nice, and his wheels sit evenly enough on the floor that you can push him around just fine. Oh, and he's got the logo for Bernie's Towing and Autobody plastered on his right-side door. Who is Bernie, and does he know his truck is now an evil 'Terrorcon'? We may never know.

While I haven't been too impressed by the other releases and reveals for this movie so far (Cheetor is a bit meh, Airazor is redundant to her Kingdom version, and I'm still not sure how I feel about Scourge), I'd say this guy is probably worth picking up, even if you aren't planning on seeing the movie. He doesn't look too out of place next to most other bots (and actually looks very good next to Tarn), those weird hook weapons under his arms are somewhat original and a neat concept, and aside for his wrists (which I'm still bummed about, but it's not a deal-breaker) he has some pretty good range of motion. He's a fun toy overall, even if I still know nothing about his character just yet.

Bendy Prime had articulation but he couldn't use it. His outward shoulder articulation looked retarded, using his double elbows covered his hands with his sleeves, and his sculpted detail on his thighs meant he couldn't even lift his legs all the way up. It's an over-rated toy that was only considered "amazing" because its peers were that much worse.

Base mode is still in, heavily downgraded, think motormaster or star saber "base" modes. Prime can still be behind a cannon on it but minicon garage, platform and turret are gone. 5mm everywhere on it.

You're literally the first person in the whole two years I've been posting images to complain about the backdrop.

I actually started off with just brown cardboard. It looked horrible. I upgraded to the Generations Selects boxes because they were less bland without being overly distracting.

I'm not seeing any 'melding'. The blacks on the toy reflect light and cast shadow, while the black on the cardboard does not; more importantly, Battletrap actually only has two bits of black on him, his tow-hook tips and the center of his chest; the rest of him is slate grey. Unless your eyes have issues with depth perception, you shouldn't be having difficulty telling the parts of the toy apart from the backdrop unless you're only looking at the thumbnail. Maybe - and I don't mean this as an insult - you need glasses? Or, if you already have them, maybe it's time to update your prescription?

having difficulty with contrast suggests cataracts, capsular opacification following cataract surgery, or whatever the fuck is wrong with me right now that the eye doctors can't figure out. I think it's low vitamin A but my tests came back within the safe zone

Pretty sure Hot House arms are the same shades of orange so it wouldn't matter either way. Might try and get Overair from the Botropolis set though, he's grey and that goes with almost everything.

Livio Ramondelli has a very unique style that lends itself very poorly to being colored. I've seen a number of his marker/pencil commission pieces floating around conventions over the years. He loves punching up the contrast with heavy shading that blends seamlessly into the lines, but when it comes time to be colored that just tends to make the pieces look too dark. I've never liked his finalized comic pages but I feel like that's the result of coloring the work of someone who's firmly a B/W artist.

Looks pretty good. I haven't bought a pricey TF in a while but the nostalgia tug may be too strong for this Prime. I never used to use the full combined mode cause the skirt sucked but this looks pretty good. Too bad they're too cheap to articulate all the fingers and at more than just the base.

Honestly, they should just re-issue the original Gigatron and Devil Gigatrons, assuming the molds haven't degraded too much. They are pretty much on par with figures we get today, and there's no way a re-imagined figure wouldn't be compromised in some way.

...Which we've heard by word of mouth from one leaker. We've yet to actually SEE it. He could've seen this pic in a chat, seen his figure in hand with a port on the back, and just assumed it was for Overload without plugging it in.
Also, Overload has FIVE connection points. A rail clip that slides into Optimus' head gap, two 5mm ports that accept the posts on his arm gauntlets, and two clips that hook over the cape rails behind his head. Three of them at minimum are needed for the combination to be stable. There's no single "port." In this picture, only the center clip rail is making contact, so unless they did something majorly custom to grab the figure, it's a fanmode.

The shoulders. They added extra joints but outward movement is terrible and it didn't need to be. Proportions could also be better, some of the flexible plastic also feels very fragile and doesn't look like it will hold up at all.

It just feels phoned in, I know they can do better.

Hotshot DOES have a minicon port, though. it doesn't do anything and it gets blocked in robot mode, but it exists and is compatible with all of the old minicons, Jolt included.

So, Core Freezer makes for a shitty artillery turret, but an actually decent Targetmaster. Also, super poseable. His instructions say he can mount onto Scourge's truck bed, too, but he pairs just as well with any other Terrorcon, including Battletrap. Neat.

It still has the base mode, Hasbro was just clever enough to make the legs make up most of the trailer similar to TR/Legends Optimus Prime/Ginrai. Oh and the back Cape of the trailer actually folds in to fill out the hollow back so that helps too.

My thinking is he fits in with the Legacy theming, but he has pretty universal appeal. Sure G1 Unicron looks a bit different from other Unicrons, but it's unmistakably Unicron. Same with Primus in a way. He never transformerd anywhere else, but even being a G1 guy I would love to have one to stand next to Unicron. Frankly a lot of him could be retooled from Unicron. It would be lazy, but if it could knock some money off the price it would be worth it. Maybe a bigger Commander Class is Hasbro texting the waters for expensive toys from that era?

Be aware that his shoulder has a design fuckup, there's some plastic infill that needs to be removed or it grinds down his shoulder ratchet wheels. Don't rotate his shoulders before you address it. Red circle needs ground down more than yellow circle, this is the inside of the front half of his shoulder pauldron. There should be 4-5 screws holding the pauldron together, you'll need a long narrow JIS Philips driver to get them out.

Just the fronts. Take the ratchet tooth out and test fit it, once it spins freely without the tooth you're good. If it catches there's still more material to remove.

And yeah, I didn't really have any screwdrivers that worked. I sort of kludged it with a jeweler's Philips set I own, but I definitely needed a longer neck.

FWIW, if you didn't know JIS is like Philips but it has a different pitch. Like using an imperial socket on a metric bolt it'll work, but using a JIS driver will get you a better grip and it won't cam out as easily.

I believe all official figures use JIS screws. Could be a mix of both the screw type being wrong and hamhands. Official figures use dogshit metal for the screws these days, so once you cam out once you strip the head and are more likely to cam out again, doing further damage to the head in a repeating hell cycle until all that's left is a circular crater.

Transformers Alternators Tracks

The third and final Alternator
Which sounds a little misleading because this is the first one I bought.
The other two were Optimus and Rodimus, who I would have bought when they came out if I ever saw them.

But we're not talking about that, we're talking about Tracks.
And Tracks here is a lovely Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in a royal blue with the metallic finish.
All of the Alternators were licensed 1:24 vehicles, so they have nearly all the bits and bobs of their full size counterparts.

Tracks feature two opening doors and opening hood for engine access. All four wheels have real rubber tires with realistic tread and the front has steering.
Interior comes with two seats and complete dashboard and console. Notable are the turning steering wheel, gear shift, hand brake, and radio dials.

Of the Alternators, Tracks easily has one of the better robot modes.
Though the reason young me did buy him was because this was the Alternator with the most weapons.
Most in the line just had a dinky gun made from the engine, but tracks has that, plus wrist blasters, plus his signature rockets.

Colour scheme is thrown way off in robot mode, with a lot of that solid blue being packed away, behind black and a metallic brown. As well as a score of red and silver accents.
Perceptor from last time even passes the baton on the chromed exhaust pipes.

I do remember the doors being attached higher on the hips.

Tracks was infamously hard to find due to Alternators having notoroiously dodgy distribution. Coupled with the fact that Yellow Tracks existed in Binaltech, made the blue Corvette boy just a hard one to find regardless of if you went plastic or metal.
Of course, they'd finally figure out better case assortments for Alternators just in time for the line to die off, so Tracks hit mass saturation when the sun was setting on people wanting Alternators... he'd show up again in stores just in time for rumors of a new G1 reimagining line were spreading to get the fans excited for something more than just Big Car Boys.

Tracks does have an amount of articulation.
He's got a ball jointed noggin.
Ball jointed hips, knees that bend much farther forward than they do back.
Arms that can't move upwards at all but can butterfly.
Elbows are on balls and two different hinges, for transformation if nothing else
Feet can swivel but not tilt and the fingers are hinged with separate trigger fingers.
He so close to being good but he is deeply flawed.

Also, he's pushing Leader class in terms of mass.

I'll bite just this once . /Toy/ is an incredibly slow board. Threads can hang on around page 7-10 for weeks here, so jumping the gun and making new threads just ends up cluttering the catalog and pushing other generals off the board while splitting up discussion. It was decided years ago that, to prevent this from happening and to keep discussion together in one thread, new ones would not be made until we've hit bump limit AND the thread has dropped to the bottom of the catalog, not a moment before. Goanon ignores this agreed upon rule and makes new threads whenever he feels like it (usually the second bump limit is reached), leaving half-used threads all over the place while also making multiple slide threads. He does this on purpose; his stated goal is to make the mods and jannies get so tired of seeing Transformers shit in general that they'll ban the topic from the board entirely (which will never happen, but it doesn't stop him from trying and killing other threads/generals across /toy/ in his insanity). In short, he's guilty of Spamming/Flooding, a bannable offense, but the mods refuse to do anything about it, which is why we're still dealing with him years later.
