Yes it's exactly like that. They are not marketing these sets towards people interested in Lego. They are targeting new customers. That's why we see so much licence shit getting pushed out. The whole adult marketing is also just there for insecure adults to not feel bad when they buy toys. /lg/ bros, can you help me. I'm trying to find some concept art someone did of a Lego minifigure redesign. I feel like it may have even been by the guy who originally created the minfigure. Any way the redesign had a look more articulation at the joints, (knee, elbow) while still innkeeping with the original dimensions of the minifigure, sort of like a mix between what we have today and mega construx. I'm pretty sure it was posted here, at least thats where I think I saw it. Regardless it was really interesting design wise.

When did Lego finally lose its classic charm?
It's easy to point fingers at the licensed stuff, but I really don't think they're the reason as a lot of the old licensed sets had a unique flair to them.
Just take picrel for example. Sure it's a scene from a movie, but it has a lot to offer as a cool graveyard set too. Even pre-fleshie Star Wars had some nice sets with vibrancy and life to them.

The only real upside to this one to me is that it makes the statue above Riddle's grave technically stand as its own figure.
Outside of that though, it's just a piece of land for you to stand the figures on. While the original set didn't have too many play features like this new one, it made up for it with just being an all around good scene for your figures to be played with in. I can't imagine being a kid and getting excited for this set.

I feel like these problems are brought to the forefront most in the modulars. I got this set for my birthday, and while it looks nice I never actually played with the interior. It was just a background prop in my poorly assembled Lego city. While I look at the early modulars and am disappointed with their lackluster interiors, I almost prefer that since you never get to use that space anyways. If modern Lego designers applied themselves they could easily give these things better interior access.

I feel like at some point lego became allergic to studs. Many of the new sets have smoothed over tiles on everything. Looks good for a remodeled bathroom, but bad for a lego set.

Star wars is a tricky one for me. On one hand I'm thankful it was one of the themes that helped save lego (along others) and they were in deep shit, and it has some cool spaceships.

On the other hand, it has cool spaceships and this is why we rarely get unlicensed official ones. Can I choose Nu-Star Wars to banish and keep the old sets?

A generic triceratops minifigure head mold could still be used on Vidyo, it could be used on a future chima-like theme, it could be used on future prehistoric caveman vs dinosaurs theme, it could be used on a future kiddy barney-like dinofriends theme...
A triceratops with headphones makes it a specific character from this specific music theme and if it were to be reused for something else it would feel extremely forced and clearly not what it was designed for.

Lego is about imagination and creativity and the need to attract smartphone kids is killing it. Literally all they need to do is a large "World 1-1" Box that has some suggestions for building a level but let's you go wild and uses minifigs to do whatever then expand it with different world biomes

You don't need the app to play with the figures aside from updating the firmware once. The app is only there for instructions (which you can also just download) and to share the courses you've build.

The problem with Bionicle pieces is that when they go for that specific aesthetic there isnt much else they can be used for. Some of these are pretty specific, but with creative use surely they'll be usable in many other sets (there are only so many ways to use a Toa torso, for example, and it's a big piece (their own fault for having the Toa get size creeped so much I guess). And that rounded piece with the side stud, as well as the 1x3 and 1x4 with the open studs would be very useful for future SCCBS items.

they'd use them for a full wave. 6 masks + torso + arm piece + leg piece + foot + head = 11 molds. don't even have to make new weapons but if they do that's 17 molds at most. They made 9 just for this speed champions wave and some are updates of old speed champions molds which won't be used anymore, meaning they were only made for 1-2 waves. they make single use molds or ditch molds after one year all the time.

Tbh I'm only just recently back to paying attention to anything Lego, and maybe you're right, but theoretically most new System pieces will have more use than new Bionicle or even CCBS pieces. Either way, they have their own way of costing things out, and I guess it made sense to do new molds for Speed Champions but not for Constraction.

Just let it be, anon was just giving his opinion, and he isn't wrong about the masks for the later sets and also G2 (though if it did come back sure they could bring back the mask packs, but they must have chosen not to for a reason).
At this point a new SCCBS character builder is the future of constraction at Lego (currently represented through the mechs from various lines, and the Marvel and soon to be Batman character builder sets). At least as of now they're done with a dedicated system like CCBS or G1 Bionicle, and for many that means the end of their interest in constraction, but if anything having a constraction theme in SCCBS/System opens up a lot of possibility, and probably also budget. So hey, if there ever was a G3 in this style, they probably would have the money for dedicated masks and weapons, and maybe they'd even make mask packs again, and due to the size probably include weapons, or even assorted parts to make Matoran of random colors.

The problem with Bionicle is that a lot of the pieces in them aren't going to be used for more than one year so you're creating a mold that you're not going to be able to reuse for other themes and you're creating molds you're not going to be able to reuse for the same theme
