I'm re-watching the old fox kids spider-man cartoon on Disney+ and on episode 3, Peter Parker is all nervous because he has a date with Mary Jane, then Mysterio comes and he forgets about the date stuff happens etc, Mary Jane forgives Peter and they seem happy at the end.

Then on the very next episode (enter dr. Octopuss) he is all about a date with Felicia and Mary Jane is completely forgotten. I was like whaaat?

Also what I'm more surprised about is how much Sam Raimi pulled from the 90s series for his movies. His Doc Ock and Symbiote stories are pretty much pulled straight from the show.

Man, I loved this line. I still own 2 of the best figures, Venom 2 and Carnage 2 with the removable rubber masks.

Some other favorites were Rhino with the head ramming action feature which looked ridiculous but was so much fun, Hobgoblin with a pumpkin bomb tossing action (until the bomb was lost) and missle launching glider, and Chameleon with swappable heads.

I would have loved this 2 pack back then, as I even had the Daily Bugle playset, but no one for Spidey to rescue.

Yeah I noticed the similarities with the Spider Man 2 movie, the device is pretty similar in the cartoon.

I saw it yesterday.
In the cartoon it was only a summer science camp when Peter was like 10. Dr. Octopuss didn't even remember Peter Parker until he mentioned he was a "student" one summer and doc ock helped him to overcome some bullying after an experiment exploded on Peter's face.

I think that the lizard guy is a greater mentor to Peter in the cartoon.

Well, regardless, still more mentor-ish behavior than that of the comic origin where he never met Peter before an encounter as Spider-man and was just kind of a reclusive bitter scientist as his origin. I agree that Conners was deffinitely a bigger role with Peter's science in the cartoon overall.

it wouldn't shock me if disney+ had things out of order. they're infamous for that
this show paid a ton of attention to continuity especially for the time
that said, it was also trying to cram tons of scenes in, and it had trouble juggling sometimes.. wouldn't shock me if something went a bit wrong.

Usually it's a case of production order vs airing order vs actual viewing order.

Darkwing Duck is a cartoon that kind of suffers from this distinction, as the DVD shows the episodes out of viewing order as does the Disney + listings.

Something notable for Spider-man is that the Spider Slayers episode, I belive, ends with Oscorp Labs destroyed, but in the Scorpion origin story, it's still standing.

can this be a vintage spiderman thread? I've been thinking alot anout pic related for a while now. I had him as a kid. He was one of my favorite toys for a while before I went through my "im too old for this" phase and regrettably donated much of my collection. Im tempted to get a new one. The sculpt on him alone is worth it.

Yeah a quick wiki search and it seems the doctor octopuss episode must be watched first (date with Felicia), then the Mysterio one (finally meeting aunt may's friends daughter Mary-Jane).

I also saw the Kraven episode today and Peter got a ticket to a play starred by MJ from his aunt (she couldn't go) but Felicia was there too and then he is all worried both girls will meet or something but thankfully Kraven appears and Peter must bail out and do some spider-man shit.

I mean Peter Parker is not the honest goody two-shoes in this show, he is playing both girls and this episode proves it. Too bad uncle Ben didn't teach him about that, uh?
