What do you think of my spring break haul for the kids? Four totes and a document box of instructions. There's another box of kreo and other knock off shit but 95% of it is genuine LEGO. IIRC it was 40lbs.

Yeah it seems weird that they didn't just use the new Indy dual mold for Alan. Minifig selection is fine though IMO, although I agree that the lawyer should have been in one of them. Overall I think they're good sets but the prices are offensively bad

not sure what you mean by that, isn't that how the lego version of something should look?. the old statues are very cute but don't look like the movie at all. the new ones capture the scary look that the ones in the film had and are also in the correct pose (arms up as if they're holding up the ceiling)

Im from russia and i left this country and left all my lego stuff and moved to europe. I can't even think about how difficult it is if you are from Ukraine.
Nobody expecting war but if this happens or if just moving to another country happens then it will be ultra difficult to move your stuff.
People from states wont understand that because america is like 1 country with moving companies that can do everything but europe/Eastern europe is a different thing.

I left so many boxes of lego pieces i collected from Bricklink over all these years.
Tons of sets.
and ALL of that is fucking nothing now. I think this war will last for 5+ years and even then it will be difficult and ultra expensive to move things over.
Especially because Lego is a very heavy thing when you put few sets in 1 box...

Do not buy anything expensive if you are not 100% sure about the country you live in and you planning to live in it forever till you die.

I'm starting to fear the used Lego bubble will never pop, it's fucking scary.
I got picrel for 200 dollars sealed right before Covid, now it goes for almost a thousand. Sets from less popular themes that I personally enjoy have quite the price tags. Hell even zoomer shit like Ninjago has some insane prices for its earlier waves, what the hell is happening?

Lego has only grown more popular. Add in nostalgia and other shit, and it's never going down. Popularity brings in speculators and scalpers, too, who don't even care other than moneymaking bullshit.

Damn $200 is what it's going for these days? I got it for $120 on amazon before it retired. I dunno I like it but I wouldn't spend $200 on it, it has it's pro and cons. It's a good display piece and the whole thing being glow in the dark is pretty cool. The cons are it is super flimsy, pieces fall off constantly at the slightest movement even when posing and the bottom section doesn't have stable connections to the torso. The set was designed to be taken apart easily to switch between the two different builds. Also the articulation is pretty much only in the shoulders and elbows.

It's an almost 5000 piece set. I did some further research, and it looks like these sets are MOCs which people made, and on AliExpress they just stole the designs and sell them at a markup. It does seem like you can get parts lists yourself but I'm not entirely sure how it works.

Where can I look to source the parts myself for cheap? I've trick bricklink but it doesn't really seem cheap, or at least, cost effective in comparison to the AliExpress listing. So where's a good place? I currently have 0 lego parts so I'm starting from scratch, but even then I don't completely get how this shit works. Are there places that do replica lego blocks for cheaper?
I'm in the UK. Appreciate any help with any of this. thanks

Is Bricklink the best place to source lego then? It seemed kind of weird. There's a bunch of store names, some have more lots than others (I assume lots just means available parts?), but the prices just fluctuate wildly. Some quote £500, other £250, some as low as £80. There's not a huge difference in the unique lot count either, these are all in the 240-220 range

If you want to buy that because of its looks and don't expect much more head to /pbbg/, they might know more about that plastic provider. Best case it's really good, bad case you have to file and glue 4000 pieces, worst case it crumbles into primordial pellets during shipment

Bricklink is generally best, there's BrickOwl too but I've never had anything there end up cheaper than Bricklink
Lots are referring to the number of unique pieces you need that that store has in stock, yeah
Prices vary both because some pieces are significantly more expensive than others, and some shops jack up prices to ridiculous levels to prey on people who autoselect. I've seen places charging upwards of $1 per piece for stuff that's usually a few cents.
I'd recommend checking the per-piece listings of the shops it's recommending and then choosing the ones that seem most reasonable, autoselect will try to keep shipping down by buying from as few as possible but sometimes paying the extra shipping to order from 4 shops instead of 3 is worth it to get lower prices on the actual parts

I've never seen shipping that high, I'm in the US though so I usually limit my search to US+Canada to save on shipping. Might not be possible in the UK, no clue how many sellers there are there comparatively
Used pieces have always been fine in my experience, occasionally a bit dull or scratched but never anything you'd notice unless you were really looking for it. Never gotten anything broken, cracked, yellowed, etc.

You should just listen to podcasts in that case, yes.

The reason why that's a pro for me is because most lego youtubers just drag out the video by talking on end about literally everything, like "HEY GUYS, DID U KNOE? IN THE 1990s LEGO HAD THIS OBSCURE THEME CALLED ROBOFORCE WHERE..." and so on. Whereas with him he's direct to the point - showing off details of a set/MOC and how it's done without any bullshit in between. It maybe helps that most his videos are in the 2-5 minute range with the longest being 12 too.

No horse in these race, but the Lego builders that aren't focused on licenses, classic space, and city/modulars are usually the better ones because they often have a strong devotion bordering on obsessive AND they get creative with it.
Bionicle builders almost fit the bill but too many get hung up on lore and not even try to go beyond humanoid designs.

2 reasons:

1. Fewer pieces so you have to be more creative
2. Pieces are simpler so you can use more imagination
3. Bricks were for building structures and vehicles while the more specialty molds like cups and chairs were accessories that help flesh out the brick builds
4. Tree
5. Fewer colors so everything is easier to tell apart in at a distance
6. :) faces let you imagine anyone as the fig

It's the minimalism of the pieces being put together. It provides story telling of what's inside the set and what you can start with. All these old classic sets came with enough pieces to get an idea of something, and it was always through combining sets that you could unlock the possibilities of your creative power.

Take a look at the BASEDplate. It has a printed stone pattern. You could use this as a template for "ok, car driveway" and when you take it apart maybe you can use it as a medieval sidewalk. You get those chairs, cups, umbrella, and mailbox and you can set up an outside scene on a town baseplate or you could use those car pieces and windows and chairs to make a funky car.

A set like this right away shows what you get. It isn't trying to hide plate elements everywhere. It doesn't have super specific molds that are only for X license. Its not a set that says "don't take this apart because it's supposed to be a statue or dust collector" (which I have a lot of).

These old sets just really go back to the idea of "buildable toy model". Friends sets like 10 years ago kinda followed that idea.

No, that's not how toys and likenesses work. Lego is a privately owned company and decides to do this for its licenses. If Hasbro can use Jurassic park parts for water world or batman parts for robin hood, it's not about getting sued. Lego could do whatever is allowed through the contracts, which you don't have access to and no one does since they're not publicly traded.

I remember I went to a Star Wars science exhibition thing as a kid and they had a thing where you could build Lego landspeeders that would go on a track and use actual magnetic levitation to float. If they made sets with something like that it would be very cool. Mini electric propellers or magnetic engines could make them remote controlled as well like slot cars.
