They have nubs on them that clip into the holes on the sides of the heads. If you press down onto the transparent brain piece they pop off. It's a totally different shape than the G1 heads, so they aren't compatible at all. Someone did make an adapter that you can 3D print, but idk how well it works.

I think it would have had some role in the story of 2001 or in the originals plans for the first three years (when Bionicle was only supposed to last 3 years), but they scrapped that, and later they still tried to make it relevant in the story. But it didn't make too much sense in the later canon.

I got the Kopaka as a pack-in gift when I bought some of that guy's masks. Not a bad little thing, about the size of a minifig. I could see it being useful for tabletop gameplay, or just a cute little figure.

Kind of a neat idea I guess, but it's visually uninteresting. What it desperately needs is some foliage to really drive home the "ancient ruins in the middle of the jungle" look. The reason I like >>10323359 is partly because it's reminiscent of the big Mata head in Kini-Nui. I might even argue that it's a more iconic part of the structure than the Suva itself. Plus it works on another level of just being a big stone head, similar to Moyai heads or any other humanoid faces you see in IRL ruins.

This set already breaks a couple of Lego Ideas' Quality Standards. First of all, images aren't supposed to have text in them. Second, Ideas need at least 15 images in order to be approved, and the Toa head project only has 11. Lastly, the main image has the Bionicle logo, which goes against the Acceptable Content policy against using logos owned by The Lego Group. If the Toa Head isn't approved, now you know in part why.

Anyone have any good ideas on how to possibly give a model like this sturdy bicep or thigh swivels? With the half bush it restricts the joint's rotation a fair bit, so it seems like a separate swivel might make sense. I know there's that one plate with the technic pin, but if I recall the friction on that is pretty terrible. Maybe there are techniques I'm not aware of, or it isn't possible yet.

With a character as iconic as Takanuva, I doubt the designers are going to let that GWP proposal go to waste. They seem to be developing it into a proper Icons set, but they are in no hurry to do so. It seems like a combination of factors (e.g. they are too busy with licenseshit, new pieces needed to be designed to make the most out of it, they are waiting for growth in the Bonkle market and 2000s nostalgia in general, etc). Don't expect much out of Bonkle until between 2027 (50th anniversary of Technic) and 2031 (30th anniversary of Bonkle).

The System Bionicle is just another way of making Bionicle stuff, so I don't see why people would need to mind it. I still don't feel as good about this as GSR. If this gets chosen, I hope they alter it and find a way to add a removable mask or something. I do seem to be in the minority, but as much as I love the head I just don't see it as much of an icon as a mask.

I think we're all in the same boat. The original Hau is the icon of Bionicle, I'd say. The mask on its own would be a cool build, but I couldn't imagine they'd do the head and mask, that would just raise the price up way too much. If it was two separate releases that were compatible, that'd be interesting. And maybe if successful they could even make more. I'm sure some nutty folks with money to burn would buy heads for each mask.

I use the elgoo mars 2 and its printed with inland "abslike" resin. That particular resin has just a bit of flexibility to it so the joints wont snap when pushed in and out but the whole thing atays together really well. The techinc axles have been giving me the most trouble with the shrinkage that happens to the print and especially the holes. At this scale theyre also slightly too flexible to properly turn the gears in the chest without snapping.

Why would that be a good thing? If it was made you just wouldn't have to buy it.

Likewise I'm sure some wouldn't want something like those Marvel builds, but its existence wouldn't harm them, surely. I personally think any potential future sets exist as smaller builds, with larger builds as their Titans. Imagine those full builds were Toa, and assuming there were still 6 of them, that'd be something like 150-200 or more per team.

I agree with the in a sense, because obviously this wouldn't be a retail set. There's just no feasible way it'd sell well enough, but a release through Bricklink (after hitting a MOQ) or DTC would make sense for a release like this, which is obviously niche. And if it didn't hit the MOQ, then just drop it. I guess because there are additional development costs to ensure Ideas sets are compliant with proper build techniques and could work well as a physical product it isn't as easy as just pushing through every 10k set as a MOQ set.

I won't disagree with your assessment, but personally I really liked the original heads, and I specifically remember enjoying how they looked without their masks, just with the translucent eyes on the head piece. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd get it and think it'd make for a nice desk piece.

I always thought 2009 was the worst year (if we don't count Stars). Despite reusing the Piraka/Inika build, the sets in 2007-2008 still felt new and unique (the Toa Mistika kinda sucked though, but they still weren't as plain as the Glatorian, and their Makuta counterparts were still great). But most 2009 sets felt plain and so much flatter and lankier for some reason. The builds were also less unique, the best they could do is bending their torsos with that technic piece.

I always liked both my Bionicle and action figures, so I'd probably be in if they were done well.

Also that's a big difference, since Spin Master doesn't have very many original IP, they're trying to make the most of the one they've seen the most success with, so they're rebooting it again, even though the current Bakugan is literally still at retail. Meanwhile Lego is overflowing with licensed products and Ninjago continues to shit out money (and they're even doing a light reboot of it with the story), and they continue to price gouge for City, so in terms of original IPs they probably don't feel the need to invest into more/new ones. Bionicle is probably still their strongest IP with actual story (of which there aren't that many with particularly deep lore (as in more than basic comics or something), but at this point it's been more than 10 years since G1 ended, so with how fast Lego moves it's just history at this point.

There are actually some talented Bionicle parts creators. If they had the desire I bet some of them could come together and create pieces for a new made up series on Kickstarter and get it made. I'm actually surprised nothing like this has been attempted yet, just straight action figures or models. Duckbricks talks about managing projects all the time, I bet he'd be interested in getting something going. But I guess would Bionicle collectors/constraction fans and people outside of it be interested in a buildable action figure line that isn't Lego and not attached to an IP.

Not that anon but if I were to give any critique I think you use a bit too much grebling. It's undoubtedly a popular look but I think it can easily be overdone. Consider removing the socket on the sides of the torso and the exoforce arms and using a different piece that covers that area (in part or in total). Same with the upper arms, but basically only the axles and bushings. I get that it's tough to do anything different with that area in particular, though.

I've always admired these kinds of MOCs, they always seem so far beyond what I could make, whether for lack of parts, creativity, ingenuity, or whatever else. That aside, unless it's particularly functional, I don't really care about them, because at the end of the day these are toys and should be able to be played with. Something that illustrates this idea are the rahi from that old book. I always thought they looked so cool, and was amazed at what people my age (at the time) were coming up with. Then I recently came across those 'canon model reviews' from duckbricks and outside of that one angle they usually looked like gangly messes, and were even less functional, often not being able to support their own weight and unable to be posed.

Hahli looks cool, the design has a nice flow, the details make sense and blend together well. I like the feminine shaping too.
Jaller on the other hand looks like a mess. The details don't make sense most of the time, they make the design too busy and messy. The lower leg is too bulky, it looks like a large block of pieces.

It's very basic bitch, but stuff like pic related. Custom Toa, Slizers, Matoran or whatever that try to stick closely to official builds. Idk, i find it's more innovative when you have a good moc within a set frame of limitations. Not that they can't have interesting revamps over the base form, but once a moc deviates super hard from official builds it becomes a turn off to me. Like I said, loved them back in the day, but not so much now.

That Slizer is fucking awesome. I like all sorts of styles of MOCs but I know what you mean. There's a lot of appeal to those simple MOCs like what you posted. I grew up making Slizers and Toa like that.

I haven't really done many MOCs but right now Im trying to gather parts for an almost all dark Blue Toa Nuva, and a Halloween Bohrok with the orange Bohrok head I never knew existed, and a Metru styled Takanuva..

So I'm reading the Metru books and thinking about the no love thing. Matau clearly likes Nokama, often pining for her attention, wanting to spend alone time with her, etc. In Maze of Shadows when the plant Karzahni briefly heals her he reaches out and hugs her, to which her reply is "have you gone crazy, brother?". And previously she also rejected his advances (even if just friendly and not romantic) as him being odd. With Le Matoran in general being a bit more impulsive maybe emotions like deeper friendships or love are just a developing thing rather than an existing one. Obviously I'm only in the Metru books, and Greg probably decided that later on (because if people who liked to ship, there's lots of potential shipping in these books) but I just found this particular interaction interesting.

So I just found out I own two Maku disks. What really baffles me is that the picture quality of these is very different. One is so dark you can barely see the details on lower part of the Kaukau, and other is almost too washed out. I understand that this is 20 year old plastic, given away with fast food, but this is very odd to me. Surely no one bothered to bootleg these over the years?

I dislike illegal connections and unstable structures too.

I don't think using SNOT pieces counts as a technique, it's just using pieces the way they were intended to. It'd be very limiting if you could only place bricks on top of each other.
I don't mind exposed studs.

I like many different styles of MOC builds, be it consraction or any other kind of MOCs, and I dislike overgreebled messy shit too (>>10327954 is a perfect example). But I also dislike basic Bionicle or CCBS builds (in fact I hated most of the official Bionicle sets from 2008-2009 too in the first place), they really have no excuse other than "muh nostalgia".

You can? I was under the understanding that the plastic used for 3D Print was inherently fragile due to the way the lines formed in the print layering. it made it good for elements not put under pressure, like masks and detail pieces, but not parts like Axles and Ball-Joints.

I meant overuse of snot is a technique. Not overuse of snot techniques. To answer your question, even though you cherry picked one of his less offensive builds, look at the feet. The mata hands are secured by the stud connector alone. I bet that build has balancing issues with those feet and it's a finnicky bitch to pose. That's an example of overdesigned. Form over function. It's opposite end of the spectrum as the Hahli and Jaller mocs, where they look stable, but then they have too many little bits just slapped all over. Both overdesigned but for opposite reasons. Another issue with that Djok build would be the rubber band usage, and the tires on the wrists because I'm sick of tires being used as filler for everything. Here's a better example of a Djokson build being what I mean as overdesigned. Looks really good but just imagine how it feels in hand. Not a fan. Again, this is all just my taste dude. Not saying I speak objective truth. I like builds that are more simplistic. Yes, probably because of nostalgia to an extent, but idk. I'm a fan of Bionicle so I like mocs that look like Bionicle. I don't give a shit when someone takes Bionicle pieces and makes some weird arthouse looking build that isn't even in the same style of the toyline and is probably a horrible experience in hand. It's similar to how I don't care for modern System shit. I'll take a 90s lego van that's 4 wide over a Speed Champions 6 wide with rounded edges everywhere any day of the week. I dunno. I love seeing huge Rahi and vehicles people make but I just cannot care for overdone builds of characters to the point that they don't look "Bionicle" enough in my eyes and/or they're not stable physically.

Greg not acknowledging love in Bionicle isn't due to him not viewing the games and animations as canon, but may be part of the reason why he views the games and animations as non canon. However I think it is mostly because the people who made the games and animations were not part of the core story team. Regardless, they are a key part of the 2001-2002 Bionicle story, so as far as I am concerned they are more canon than anything post-2003. 2001-2003 is all that really matters for Bionicle.

As neat as this looks I don’t get the point of it, it looks more like a SMT enemy than a bionicle, mainly because of the parts they used like the wings which are all one cast piece of plastic. If it didn’t have the mask or the pointy end of the stick it wouldn’t be bionicle related at all.

I just like it because it's neat I never really thought about it. I'm assuming the guy just wanted to make a Takanuva with those Monkie Kid metallic gold parts and a lot of System for whatever reason. I love that newish gold color.

I wonder if he was meant to be a mishmash of differently colored Nuva parts, and that the reason he's called Bionicle is because he's built from whatever bonkle pieces the kid had around. The whole being a survivor thing is that so many pieces were lost that not a complete set could be rebuilt.
