People look at their behavior and think it's ridiculous that someone would feel so much for something as banal as a superhero or a cartoon character, and I can't say I disagree.
I like toys much more than the fiction they come from, sometimes being aware of the media they come from actually ruins my enjoyment of a toy if the media is bad enough like with Transformers that came from IDW or Marvel in general, and to me they work just the same as they did when I was a kid, something to fiddle with and sometimes act out scenes I come up with except that I don't have the mental fortitude to actually do it and I just pose them.
Hell, I can't recall the last time I watched something that wasn't anime or a weird film awards bait/cult movie. If I bought in the same as you do I wouldn't own a single toy save for the very occassional figma.
