I require a large amount of minifigures for a large scale battle model I'm working on.

Now I did some price comparing and basically if I buy it from China it's 1/4th of the price if I get it from the official lego store.

I'm not familiar with the quality control of chinese brand. Is it safe to buy or do you have to decontaminate the stuff?

I would unironically give the chinese minifigs are wipe down with a damp cloth before handling. I'be built bootleg sets and while the quality can be almost 90% the same as actual Lego, i've always felt dizzy and/or nauseous after

The minifigs are part of the decoration numbskull.

I'm not stopping you from building lifeless statues made out of the basic brick shapes but some people care about the details.

I'm making a large LotR diorama and require large figurines like the trolls & horses.

The horses cost 5 dollars on the lego site and here they cost only 1 dollar. The cave trolls are only second hand and cost 35 fucking dollars. I can get a chinese one for 2,50 dollar.

The quality varies. I've gotten some bootleg minifigures that were pretty much on par with real Lego. Then I've gotten others that were clearly not; they used different pegs that used less plastic to connect leg assemblies to torsos, some leg assemblies came unassembled or had loose legs that don't stay in place when you try to pose them, some parts like the feet would have a lot of flash on them you'd have to trim off. Another notable issue are the hands. The hand connection pegs always seem too long/thick and sometimes you really have to use a lot of effort to push them into the arms. Print quality is usually pretty decent but there are definitely sometimes exceptions. Heads in general never seem to have printing that looks too great.

Minifigure accessories, on the other hand, are good enough to work as replacement parts in my own collection. Same goes for a lot of bricks/pieces themselves. The only drawback is that you don't get the "LEGO" printing on each stud so it still feels like a cheap, inferior copy even though the quality is sometimes comparable. Pic related is made 100% of bootleg pieces.

wtf, really? I never even considered that they had to be "decontaminated" -- from what? Most biological shit won't survive on plastic long enough to make you sick, especially when it takes 30+ days for them to arrive from China. Unless you're talking about some kind of chemical residue, which I think is just as unlikely.

Those horses off Aliexpress are decent enough quality. If you're buying a large amount of figures, just buy a small amount first to check whether the quality is atrocious. Some figures I've gotten have been okay but some don't even fit together.
