>>10347516 There is no 5poa blank figures. If you are just looking to practice painting you can buy a cheap figures that are not 5poa. McFarlane artist proof figures are cheap and are a great way to practice your painting. eBay has tons of old prequel SW figures you can get for cheap as well.
You need to learn paint skills(thin your paints!)
How to disassemble figures and sand their joints
Take parts from different figures to create a new figure.
I would start very basic. Get a figure and maybe just repaint the shirt a dark color. Swap out the head. Paint the feet. Add some accessories (backpack, belt, et,), paint the small details on the figure like the buttons and belt buckle. Give it a dark wash then go over it with the dry brush technique to bring out the details.
What type of paints do you have?

Thanks again for the recommendations on Star Wars civilians, just got the joytoy Boyang Feng in today and he's real close to perfect for what I wanted. He's a very tiny bit bigger/bulkier overall than most TVC, but it was easy to fix that visually by taking the jacket+belt off and instead giving him an extra cape from a VC257 Kenobi figure, which was coincidentally a near-perfect color match to his shirt. Genuinely impressed with the level of detail on him, the face especially looks amazing, will absolutely be getting a few more joytoy figures to fill out scenes/displays.

>>10358562 And that's awesome, thanks, definitely gonna grab at least one of those. Exactly what I hoped he looked like under the vest, perfect Star Wars extra material.
Anonymous
>>10369586 I find most 1:18 toylines scale well with each other, almost perfectly in most cases. EXCEPT Star Wars TVC stuff. They're all super short and stumpy and tiny and more often then not have the worst hip joints and crap articulation in general. It boggles my mind that the same company that can pump out Modern Era G.I. Joes a decade ago is the same one that makes current TVC figures.
The shame of it all being that a lot of TVC figures would themselves make for great generic background people. Especially with all the figures from the newer movies, almost all of which have the most boring designs and costumes. Like, I got the Jyn Erso and Rose Tico figures thinking I could get a cheap rebel soldier and mechanic figure...but they look like children next to most other 1:18 stuff (especially MTF figures)...so that's what they ended up being in my collection. And while it's all fine and dandy with generic characters like that, it's awful when it comes to the troopers.
I would have loved to grab more of those pulse troop builder sets because that's something I wish more 1:18 toylines would do. But it's kind of hard to take a "Death Trooper" seriously when he's a whole head and a half shorter then everyone else.
I do love TVC Vehicles though. The Assault Tank and Imperial Transport are probably two of the best ground vehicles I've bought in a long time. I generally avoid the space ships since they take up tons of space but only fit a single or a pair of figures, but ground vehicles that can carry tons of troops are always welcomed in my collection.

>>10369702 >the hips The more time I spend talking to other 1:18 collectors the more I wonder if I'm the only person that liked those ball-hinge hip designs; I fully admit they take longer to pose, but they hold poses so much better on average due to the joint being firmer. When I was a kid I thought the Clone Wars ARF Trooper was the best figure ever, since its ball-hinge hips gave it the extra range-of-motion that the old swivel hips couldn't, but also didn't move/fall under its own weight so easily like the balljoint GIJoe Cobra soldiers at the time. Either way it's a fair concern, I might like them but it's been pretty evident most people don't, the newly-tooled TVC sculpts have switched over to balljoints since 2021ish.
>scale Sadly most of the girl TVC figures have been weirdly small over the past few years; both Bo-Katan and Fennec are nearly a full head shorter than a Stormtrooper, and that's a real shame when the figures are pretty great aside from that. I have no idea what figures the Death Trooper looks short next to, though? Unless joytoy also runs smaller than average 1:18, the scale here seems mostly correct to me; the Death Trooper is fairly obviously skinny/spindly, but they've been like that onscreen too so I can't really call that a flaw with the toy here.
Agree completely on the vehicles, I missed getting the tank but I grabbed 4 of the transport and it's easily the best thing hasbro's put out semi-recently. Sucks that it's kind of the end of its era though, it's been 3 years and they haven't done anything like it since.
Anonymous
>>10369921 Probably not the best pic to illustrate my point, but all my figures are packed away and it's the only one I have on hand.
From perspective, they all look to be a similar height, but the Death Trooper is the only one who's fully in frame, lined up next to the other figure and he's like a head shorter then them. The other figures are from Planet Green Valley, Joytoy Warhammer and 25th G.I. Joe respectively. It gets even worse when MTF figures get involved, but those guys all seem to be giants.

It's probably because some corporate higher ups think people will just buy toys from different companies and not spend the money on their own product, but I've passed on buying so much shit over the years because it doesn't fit with my collection. It's unfortunately even more blown out of proportion with the smaller figures because minor scale differences make for much larger differences in the overall figure size.

>>10371835 I"ve always found the Star Wars figures (and earlier iterations of Joy Toy figures) have noticeably smaller heads. that in itself makes them not fit in. A height range is fine to a degree (except as the OP mentioned Stormtroopers) as people have variety but when their proportions add to this there is a problem.
Anonymous
>>10371835 >because some corporate higher ups think people will just buy toys from different companies and not spend the money on their own product Just the opposite.
Its why 3¾ is still in use today, because Star Wars set that standard and so many lines since then used it (because they all copied Star Wars).
Then in the 00s, when Hasbro updated the GI Joe line, they became a true 1:18 toyline. And everyone started copying this scale too. Boss Fight, Marauder Gun Runners. Hiya Toys. Toy Notch. Jazwares. etc etc etc.
They copy these scales BECAUSE they know cross-line interaction happens and want people to buy their toys too.
Unfortunately, this created created two different standards. 3¾ is still in use, so it's basically competing with true 1:18 scale. And then companies like JoyToy fucked up the scale with Warhammer to make it cheaper.
Companeis like McFarlane basically lucked into 1:18 scale, in order to continue making 7" figures, which meant the smaller characters and vehicles happen to be 1:18 or close enough.

After only a day being posed on its stand rathalos' tail fell off! Epic chinese engineering. Comparing the joint here to Pachyrhinosaurus from the Beasts of the Mesozoic line to show how undersized it is. They did an awkward thing here where the joint is not hidden well, and the ball is slightly too small for the joint and hangs loosely. I could probably get it to fit tighter with the old furniture polish trick but the more elegant solution is probably just to use magnets. I could embed magnets, cover them with filler and paint blood red for battle damage if I wanted to detach them.
Anonymous
>>10372716 Are all the joints on the tail the same way? Maybe it was to make "chopping" it off easier. Still sucks either way. I really wish we could get a single solid articulated monster hunter line.
Anonymous
>>10372967 The rest of the tail stub is slightly articulated but doesn't pull apart, and the detached tail contains a plastic rod that goes through and the scutes are set around it. It also has a small degree of flexibility. I might as well go over the figure in detail at this point.
The wings are very heavy and the shoulders really should be those heavy duty clicking joints. As it is they went for range of motion over anything sensible. As is it has a wide range of angles you can put the wings at, but they just want to droop. There are nubs that you can use to pinch the wings into a more natural looking splayed pose, which need helping with flat pliers to get into place. It looks the best like this, but takes up the most space.
The head/neck articulation all feel really good. The texture and paint overall look great, there's a few glossy spots in seams but nothing gratuitous. There's probably a better way to display it besides the plastic stand it comes with, might have to make a marionette and hang it up like a plant.

Anyone else seen these? Picked up a few, they're not terrible, though overpriced at $21.99-23.99 (Ultron is 33+, haven't seen to confirm price). Walmart exclusive, supposedly. They've also got two at 10.99 (Thor with a Stego-axe and gold Iron Man with a dragon-gun) and a Hulk with Tri-tops gauntlets (14.99)

I finally took the plunged and ordered a pair of Battlestar Galactica figures from multiversecustoms on Etsy. Immediately out of the bag I was impressed with the quality. The joints are very stiff out of the package although they do move, and apparently with a little use they loosen up a lot, which is why people suggest magnetizing them. The detail on them is great and they have a very satisfying weight to them. I can't wait to see how they look painted. I'm planning on chromifying the Cylon, and if I get a Commander I'll try chromifying him with gold. I'll probably end up ordering more later since these seem like they'll be really fun projects, and I'm definitely considering getting a 3D printed Viper and Raider.

Have any of you bought one of the figures from this line? I've been looking into them and have been wondering if it's worth it. Pics would be appreciated.

>>10398416 They're missing a lot of articulation that was in the 1:12 line.
The gas mask guys are basically like 90s action figures. They're poseable, but you won't do any interesting poses with them.
The robots are better, but a bit less poseable than other 1:18 lines.
Didn't stop me from buying the variants, but i would avoid the human gas mask guys unless they improve.

You're paying a premium for art... or rather, i did.
I bought two and tha's all i'll buy until they improve on them. Whereas i'll contuine buying their robots, just like i did for their overpriced WWRP figures.
I still buy WWRP figures, despite being even more expensive on the secondary market USED, because fucking look at them.
Also, the joints weren't hidden. They're pretty obvious, even on the new line. The new line is missing joints maybe because of fragility issues or they're greedy. Who knows. They recently canceled an upcoming toy for who knows what reason (not enough orders maybe?).
