They're a nice plush you can use instead of throw pillows for a bed, couch, etc. Also, there are a ton of different ones to collect in different colors and sizes.

The $25 ones are like a foot tall at least. That's how much the Gengar one I bought was. The small ones are like $5-10 depending on store.

Just like Funko's these have no inherent aesthetic value and will be worthless in a few years. The only things these have over Funko's is they're just generically kawaii enough that kids actually like them where as Funko are just ugly lumps of plastic.

I don't collect them myself but I fell into a rabbit hole looking into them.
They got popular due to social media, when people were in lockdown they showed of their collections of these things and it spread to more and more people.
It also helps that they near perfected the pillow plushie design to the point where Pillow Pets and TY are copying them and that they're actually cute.

Can't believe nobody mentioned it: Their consistency/feel
Every other plush feels inferior when touching a Squishmallow. They're fluffy, just the right amount of bounce back giving them a little stressball/fidget-ness & oddly ice cold to the touch.
The looks are whack though but get carried by their texture.
