Star lord is a peculiar case, the MCU suit is really close to the comic version and it has a helmet that hides the face. When it comes to other characters though, they're basically buying a cosplayer.
It's different than buying for example, star wars figures, or other movie franchise where the actor is the original source for a particular character. Mark Hamill, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Peter Weller, Keanu Reeves, etc.
