I give my kids a mix to play with. Cute modern/skill building toys ( I tend stay away from licensed characters best I can) and old fun toys from 80s and prior like toddle tots, peekaboo blocks etc which I find on marketplace and goodwill

Soft cloth blocks, stacking cups, the classic stacking ring toys, plastic or silicone keys for teething, simple plastic vehicles, soft towel/lovie animals. A good crib mobile in black/white that plays music, and an on-the-floor baby gym are helpful. Soft fabric books with textures. Later--kitchen tools and pladtic food, cardboard bricks/blocks (look at Lakeshore for ideas), books, Duplo.

I had that. I would honestly purposely shove the wrong ones in, because the right ones served their purpose already. one time i used it as a bowling ball to copy that one scene from Rugrats. it didnt work

Plushies and books to read them, I got my nephew (1) a Godzilla plushie for Xmas and my niece (3) a momma and baby red panda plushie and a kids book on them to read to her. I buy her books a lot, lots of cute ones about nature or mice who drink tea and eat cheese
