MMPR's original target audience was 8-12 year olds in '93, in 2001 they'd be 14-20, busy with school or young adulthood.

The actress she was with was the wife of a somewhat famous actor, and the story was mentioned in relation to him and his wife. Thuy apparently wasn't mentioned at all. Brutal. Power rangers just wasn't relevant to the people handling news at the time.
