Crossposting from /m/. Got gifted one of those fake airbrush kits for Gundam Markers and tried to do a whole HG in it. This guy is 100% painted, on the sprue, with Gundam marker using those Mr Air cans. Really not bad at all.

Newfag here, I impulse bought a couple of these clear Gundam Wing models at Anime NYC last year. Having fun but it seems like the translucent plastic is really, REALLY hard to clean up. I’m getting better at trimming the nubs (photo is from really early on) but it seems like absolutely anything that I do to this plastic just mars it, and obviously I can’t paint over it either.

Anyone worked with these before and have any tips?

1 dont push the blade forward but cut by pulling along the blade, try to pull the cut in one direction and avoid sawing.

Gloss coating clear marts makes like 90% of scuffs and scratches from sanding dissapear. If you don't plan to coat your kits then you're going to have to polish them out the best you can.

And yes clear plastic is a bitch which is one of the reasons I don't like clear kits.

And of course not, I have a bunch of snapfitted kits in addition to my painted or customized ones. Sometimes I just like the look of the kit as-is or feel like it would be a massive pain in the ass to paint.

The caveat is that the clear coat has to have the same (or close enough) refraction index as the plastic to fill the imperfections.

Most hobby clear coats fit that description, but not any random craft/hardware store spray.

Better to coat the arms and shoulders and legs and shit separately. No need to worry about gloss coat messing up articulation, usually it will stiffen up the joints and some people use it for that cause. I seperate the limbs and such to get a more even coverage.

I have a question about super minpla/whatever it's called now. I am a big MMBN fan so I'm thinking of getting these, but I also can't build models for shit due to basically having Parkinsons hands for detail work. Painting details is absolutely impossible for me. How much finish work do you need to do with these things for them to look even remotely presentable?

Literally no paint is needed. There will probably be some stickers like for the eyes too. They'd probably look just like they do there except some of the colors are stickers, and they'll look a bit more plastic-y.

I’m trying Tamiya panel lining right now and I don’t particularly understand how to fill wells, the lining tends to not stay in the middle leaving for a dark edge and thin coat in the well. And I can’t really reapply more lining since the thinner will just erase the previous application.

Assuming this isn't the last time you are using paint, yes, you need a paint brush, probably a few of them. Get some cheap gold taklon set from the dollar store for now, that will have different sizes.

Also, you need an actual enamel thinner of the same brand as the paint you are going to buy. Lighter fluid is not a substitute, it evaporates way too quick.

Banzai listed virtually all of their gunpla as out of stock and unavailable. Maybe if your other choices are West Taiwanese nippers or actual pliers, then yeah.
I use mine for the first cut at the runners, and use a Build Up for actually cutting near the part, but still use a knife and file.
Build Up is like the bare minimum for "serious" nipper, consider getting a Tamiya or one of those single-bladed nippers instead.

I'm being filtered by Tamiya Panel Lining.
When it works, it's amazing. And it only works for thin lining. But when it comes to other parts, the lining is bleeding, there's inconsistency of shades between the pieces, and a ton of accidental erasing when cleaning up that's making me stressed out.

Shake the bottle properly, like it takes a good bit. I'd recommend adding some mixing balls to them (two is what I use). When using, dab off the excess on the inside of the jar, then touch it to the panel line. If the bottle brush isn't working for you, no shame in getting a proper brush. Let the panel lining sit for 20-30 minutes minimum if you're having a lot of erasing issues. Really it can sit for a good while and still be cleaned.

Maybe it's just the kit, since most of the markings are like wells rather than lines. I don't particularly have an issue on the thin lines, the shield looks mostly great, it's just everything else.

I'm also going to warn you, don't panel lined who assemblies, panel line individual pieces. You run the risk it pooling in places you can see and eating away at the plastic. There's also just a bit of learning curve to it, eventually you'll learn what does and doesn't work with panel lining. For the stuff like the "wells" as you put it, I tend to go at with some ultrafine markers.

RE 1/100 is not really a gimmick. it started as a line to dump MGs that will become too expensive to produce or too unpopular to sell well as an MG.

as such, many of the earlier RE 1/100s are basically finished MGs that their details were just hollowed out.

but the line died because of Bandai's stupidity. instead of making the line a halfway MG, they should have made it a cheap 1/100 army building line (no american would pass up on buying 100s of cheap $10~$20 Leos to make a Wing diorama

Is it possible/okay to panel line after apply a top coat? After putting everything under the spotlight I noticed a few areas.
And I'm noticing specks of coat? on the skirt and booster of the leg, not quite sure what I did particularly wrong. I only did a side to side motion once or twice on accident

probably not coated enough, give it another 1-2 coats on those parts.
Panel lining after a matte coat is something people usually dont do. You could either strip the matte coat with isoprop, panel line again and then coat again. Or gloss coat it over the matte, panelline and then flat coat again. The latter will make the layers thicker so shallow lines might fill up

Funny enough, I've seen this exact effect being done with a 0.18 airbrush by painting random doodles like pic related (only even more random and across the entire surface) with a darker color then giving it a few semi-transparent blending coats with a base color. It was even a part of the Creos P770 review video I watched long time ago (for the life of me I can't find it).
Though I imaging it would be quite labor-intensive to do it over the entire 1/72 jet.

The scary part is that what you see here (a conservatory with a piece of basement under it) represents about 4% of the whole castle/mansion/palace I am foolishly about to print, paint, weather, install windows and movable doors (which are included), find furniture and other relevant objects, re-scale, print and paint those, then find human figures in appropriate and inappropriate poses, re-scale, print and paint them and place them all throughout the building.

I don't expect this to be finished this year since I still have my Shigure, HIMARS, Megumin, Rei, and a couple of other projects to finish first. 3D printing is a disease.

This shit right here has got to be my greatest achievement in 3D printing to date.

Took 3 attempts, 2 to print without failures and the 3rd to remove supports without breaking any of the hyper-brittle spikes (which required a 70% reduction in supports while making sure it still prints without failures).

Tsunoda MEN-115 was invaluable for removing said supports one by fucking one.

The resin can be filtered through a funnel in under a minute, I don't see how automating that would "make the process a lot easier".

Filtering the contaminated cleaning alcohol is near impossible however.
