Earthrise is a fucking shit toy and half the altmode is a partsforming hunk of nothing. The partsforming chunk isn't even a passable sword like the Siege one. It's an absolutely horrendous Megatron and ANYTHING will be better than that piece of shit.

Okay, looking at the pics of Armada Prime now, and his base mode is way better than his original toy, simple as it looks. This results in his Super Mode legs no longer looking like scaffolding anymore. Wonder if we'll get Jetfire and Overload, as well as hopefully a Requiem Blaster to go along with either of their releases. Hope they reserve the Skyboom Shield with Tidal Wave, though.

What were they fucking thinking here? I've been watching a few clips of Earthspark and the designs of the actual TF characters are all good, but these OCs are just horrible.

It sucks because because from what I've seen Earthspark has some very good fights and does things I love in Transformers media like deploying weapons or transforming mid-combat to use their vehicle mode as a weapon (in one scene Megatron flips to his altmode mid-somersault to attack somebody with his helicopter blades before switching back to land,) but the brunt of the story seems like slice-of-life humanshit with two of the shittiest looking OCs we've ever seen.

If we'd had Cyberverse's story with Earthspark's art team it would have been kino

Barricade looks spectacular if not for the poor hip and nonexistent ankle articulation and the lack of purple paint on the wheels (honestly he seems the best of them all so far), Bumblebee I'm praying to fucking god is just consistently mistransformed in all the promos+renders, and now these truck fists on OP. Eh, for the most part I like the designs from Earthspark more. Cyberverse is a little too blocky and friendly while Earthspark sharpens up the designs to look more mechanical. There are some designs I like better in Cyberverse though - while the Seeker twins look much better in Earthspark, Arcee's face is disgusting compared to her Cyberverse counterpart.

Then on top of that, you have a whopping 18 slots set aside for Unicron Trilogy characters alone, including some like Armada Sideswipe which have nearly zero demand for them.

For my tastes, Cyberverse is definitely generic and looks like a Chinese phone app, but at their base level they're still nice to look at, and the basic designs mean that they'd lend themselves to fast-paced action well because of their readability.
Earthspark though, while I like the detail and some things like Megatron's design, are generally kind of charmless. Stuff like Optimus serve to showcase how the designers don't really seem to understand what makes the designs work; they all look extremely awkward.

As much as this list is obvious fanfiction, and as much as Armada Sideswipe is a D-lister, I can see some logic for a redo. Of all of the Armada toys he does not hold up. Even compared to the rest of the line he's gangly, awkward, kibble-y, horribly proportioned and barely matches the animation. The rest of the OG Armada toys at least hold up as more-or-less show accurate, even Scavenger.
Plus he turns into a Skyline, which is automatically cool.

From how I understand the process with modern toy production is that plastic parts are molded on spues, these sprues are molded on dyes. These dyes are made out of steel and are insanely expensive to create. These sprues are limited by the dimensions of the injection machine, and when a part that needs to be on the toy but does not fit on its coloured sprue they will need to move it to another sprue to save money. It could also be because the miscoloured part needs to be made of a certain type of plastic for structural reasons

I think they were going for a gradient, hoping that 'transparent red' would feel like it's halfway between the opaque pink and the black.
on the show though, they altered the ant legs and their corresponding robot limb equivalents, so they weren't just solid red then suddenly black.

I remember remarking, as a kid, that these beast guys really put the priority on the robot modes, leading to some awkward beast modes.. but that I preferred that over the old vehicular transformers, where the vehicle was always stunning dead-on realistic 80s japanese cars, but the robot kinda sucked as a result.

The original has the ball peg on the head and the ball socket on the body, while the new one has the ball socket on the head and the ball peg attached to the body, I made a neck that has ball pegs on both sides.

Just finished the redesign, I'll print a proto when I finish the last add on, the tiny gun that goes inside its mandibles, my junker is missing that too.

I'm re designing it to give hime the second pair of mandibles he had in the cartoon.

that's a bit different, his limbs look ridiculous. yes there are tiny tarsi on the end, but tiny ones. not big ones like inferno has as his joint-spikes
what they did is, they knew inferno needed hands, but his hands needed to become part of an ant leg
so they put duplicate spikes on the knees on the hind legs, accomplishing roughly the same thing, except not. but then also there's spikes on the feet, so that is closer to the same thing
basically it made all good choices with all middling execution.

I was going to break your balls over this but let me be frank, promotional art and the character rotation aren’t really indicative of how a character looks in the show. I work in animation on some pretty lively shows and the basic 3/4 always looks lifeless (which is why finding production material can be difficult).

All the 3/4 front pose is for is to serve as a reference for proportions and basic shapes. Animated has really good posing throughout the show.

To be fair Bendy Prime doesn't have a Super Mode and is a stylized design whereas the new one is meant to be as anime accurate as possible. I personally prefer the anime design over Bendy despite my love for the boxer look the latter has. He has a more heroic build and his chest is more proportional to the red L part that connects the arms to the torso. The Bendy prime made the red L part small and the torso bigger to make up for it that he almost looks like Primal. Oh and the gap between the torso and the red L part bothers me, even if that was done for the boxing gimmick it had.

Of course it could. They only needed to make the supermode shoulderpads backs different from the front like in the original toy. They completely missed the reason it was designed that way from the start and just gave the new core Optimus a huge crotch.

The old toy's Super Mode shoulder pads was also static and you couldn't make any meaningful articulation with the legs other than forward in core bot mode. The new one has the shoulder pads able to open out and be skirt armor for Optimus in his core bot mode. Yeah they could do what they did in the original toy but it probably wouldn't make the flaps stable in Super Mode without enough area to peg them in place.

It's part of a shitty combining weapon gimmick. The flail is how characters are able to actually hold the thing, so they had to mold it in such a way that the handle fits into a character's hands while the chain remains relatively horizontal while the other weapons snap onto the head.

I like goofy G1 designs, and I doubt very much he's the "only" G1 character
there are so many that even Hasbro has probably only a single toy for some characters

Actually, no, Windcharger only has a single third party figure, a masterpiece style figure by X-transbots called Boost released ages ago. It also has a Tailgate version, but Tailgate also got an IDW CHUG figure by Maketoys so he's better off than Windcharger.

Say, why do we not have any black and grey recolor of G1 Starscream, like, at all? Call me a jackass, but I would expect a Masterpiece Starscream 2.0 Death Version with black and gray recolors of everything he has, including Coronation Gear (except crown), an alternate chest piece representing him being shot in the chest by Galvatron, and probably an additional minifigure replacing the asteroid stuff to go along with the set (maybe Dr. Arkeville or a dreaded Kiss Players reference in Atari-scream where she pulls out a gun).

He's annoying, but his reviews are timely and consistent, and I've said often that his cheerfulness is something infectious. Afaik he's honest with his reviews, although sometimes he's still overall-positive about something he was critical on, with criticisms that make me think twice about getting the figure. Nabbed an Armada Optimus preorder on Pulse yesterday, normally I wouldn't care about preordering figures but I feel like not only is he one of the most wanted figures but commanders always get fucked with distribution.

Hoping we get something about 86 Ultra Magnus soon.

I've only seen starscream for this and it's crazy to me that the box art shows a wfc style body while the back side shows you get a half hearted repro. I say that knowing I'd get hot rod in a flash.
