>>10388732plasticizers are in everything plastic. They make the plastics flexible and bendy.
As plastic ages, plasticizers start coming out as a gas and can collect back onto the toy and surrounding areas as a liquid. Short of freezing your figures, there's nothing you can do to prevent that. AND there's no way of telling how long it is before those plasticizers can start leaking.
No line is immune, no matter how much you're paying. Some high end lines like Kaiyodo and Good Smile figures have leaked in just 3 years, as recently as that Amazing Yamaguchi Iron Man. Whereas Kenner shit from the 70s can still be found in perfect shape.
The most you can do is keep your toys (And plastic boxes) away from hot areas. Invest in air conditioning if you live in some armpit city or country.
You should also air out any boxes you use to store toys in every 3-6 months, that way if plasticizers are leaking, it won't accumulate as easily. Be as OCD as you want. Personally, I don't care, but i already routinely go through my boxes just to play with shit or switch up a display.
Oh, and how can you tell if the plasticizers are leaking? They can feel sticky to the touch. They might be discolored. There can be dust laying ontop of the figure. Wash that shit off with dish soap (and only dish soap), because it can cause more problems.
Even if you don't see any of these obvious signs, a figure that has started to leak its plasticizers will become brittle and there's nothing you can do about that.
