You can see wires, poles, the actors in the suits, people in the background, obvious paintings they're standing in front of, microphones, unrealistic physics, bad effects drawn in later, all of that. And you say practicals can be preserved, how many of the Showa props of all the monsters still remain, exactly? And you keep having to remake them to make them match the standards of the time or the whims of the directors, same as cgi files. It all comes down to movies not looking perfect no matter what, but cgi is clearly an improvement over what came before it. Might look just as bad to you at its worst, but when it's good, it's better.
