This surprises me. When he did his Q&A at TFCon Chicago last summer, his response to a question about 3rd party figures was basically that, while he recognized the talent behind them and didn't outright hate them, he wasn't much for them and would rather the companies make their own stuff over doing characters that belonged to someone else.

Also he mentioned that if unlicensed products have QC issues, it damages Hasbro's perception in the public despite not being involved with it (also funny shit like a bootleg Armada Megatron being sold in Wal-Mart the same time Hasbro's was out).

I got Siege Jetfire, very nice, very beefy. Some parts don't tab as well as I'd like, hands keep popping off.
Wasn't too happy with the stock super mode so I made a slight change. He's a cool bot.

I'm interested in picking up one of the Beast Wars Dinobot molds. Which would you guys recommend? Kingdom looks great to me, but I love the recreation of the original toy they did with the Buzzworthy one and even the Grimlock recolor, which holds a special place in my memory because it was the one I had as a kid. I've heard of some serious yellowing issues among all three.

he's a great one to paint too because A) you can't fuck it up worse than john hasbro did, and B) the different shades of white don't match each other anyway
Mine might look a bit amateurish but I'm happy with it in the end.

hmmm i think his plastic type might be one that's bad for paint, hence the sporadic paint apps. could be wrong. but the paint we use is better at adhering than factory paint anyway, so give it a shot.

The urban legend isn't quite my inspiration, I just wanted to kinda pay homage to how a normal mirror universe autobot like the bounty hunter Devcon would more likely be a "bad guy" before he could become a Mister Rogers sort of character, I did not actually know that there even was an urban legend when writing the bio blurb.

I had some fun picking out who could go with who. I originally pulled out my Wreck-Gar because I just wanted his weapon for a different pair but he wound up being put in this picture which is one of the few I like while the other pair's picture ended up pretty damn bland. I was surprised that my loose as shit Skullgrin managed to hold a pose that was even vaguely dynamic, other occasions it would demand to be very meticulously handled to hold a simple standing pose. pretty awesome robot mode, I feel like the cheetah head could have tucked in slightly more, it even seems to have a muzzle-shaped space at the bottom, but it works. at least it's not spindly.
the cheetah claws are actually painted, that gives it a lot of points to me. The only thing I want to paint is a few textured fur parts on the legs. But none of the yellow or brown parts/paint match each other at all anyway, so there's like nothing to lose. I might paint his shoulders up blue
slightly disappointing you can't turn the tail around backwards so it looks good in robot mode if that's where you wanna put it. and it's nice getting two weapons at all. AND having seamless storage. He's even got special pieces during transformation to cover up the robot kibble. love it. and the leg transformation is actually unique, not just a copy of other cheetor. weird that the wrists bend down in a way that looks like it's for transformation, but isn't though. I think it was meant to be, to hide them more up against the belly, but the alignment is wrong.
this sucker got GOOD engineering, I hope this guy gets to keep doing more. easily one of the best transformations i've experienced in a long time.

Nemesis is up on Pulse. Final pics look decent, and some things I'm noticing are:
>She's got actual weapons - her shin armor becomes two massive blasters while her shoulder fins are hatchets
>the hatches on her sides in ship mode are moved to her wrists in robot mode, letting her deploy her four Seekers from her arms
>hands seem to form better fists than Ark's
>mini turrets on her body are separate pieces, not molded on like Ark's, and can rotate
Battlemask feature, while pointless, seems less intrusive than initially suspected
>ship mode can 'land' and be displayed on a smooth surface, due to the bottom fin splitting to form landing gear
>actually looks good in varying shades of purple and red
I was getting her anyway to go with my Ark, but she seems to be a clear improvement overall compared to him - might have something to do with her not including an equivalent of Mainframe eating up the budget and partscount.

Honestly, not making a boob joke, she really just needs more chest. The shoulder struts coming out just above where her tiny square of a chest stops is a bad look. Like there's a few angles she looks good in the pics, but then there's just as many where they just make it look like her arms are growing out of her neck.

I don't mind the limbs as much, they just lack a proper torso to tie it all together. I get that the Nemesis is a classic Weird Floro Dery Sci-Fi Vehicle so it was never going to break up into component shapes that were made for making a robot, but Nemesis perhaps fittingly is not sticking the landing. They almost seemed to prioritize making the two modes different shapes, and that's not really a thing to do when you're dealing with a spaceship that focuses on curves and roudnness.
There's elements I like. The nose into spikey shoulders is nice. Of course we'd get a Decepticon sigil head, that's fine. But her face is so subdued and blends right in. Give her a real bitch face, with a pursed lip sneer to drive home she's a bad girl and she loves ruining autobot days. And I say this as someone who thinks giving fembots dsl on toys is a bad look.

though part of it i think is modern engineers aren't good at making curved parts fit into curved parts, so everything just breaks apart into flat pieces and that makes her a bunch of honeycombed box shapes
i do like spiky shoulders, but in this case I think the entire shoulder pylon should have been above the post that connects to the body.

I think the problem just comes to the robot mode looking kind of boring. She doesn't look very menacing compared to how chunky the boy titans tend to be, but at the same time she doesn't stand out in any interesting way. No stylish kibble allocation, no cool weapons, her face is just about the only neat thing about her, she's just a big skinny bot.
I think they should have followed up on the Ark's unintentional Last Autobot homage and given Nemesis some kind of theme. A more seeker-esque body or a big arm-mounted fusion cannon or something.

Like this is one of her best pictures we have. The angles bluff her torso into a better shape than it is: it makes the struts blend into the chest more, and the wing backpack seems to make the chest look wider with more mass. But then you see the Ark style "this chest is actually hollow from any angle not front on" and she just withers a bit under the lights.
I'm still going to buy her, but she's just going to sit in that "what might have been" thought bubble of mine for who knows how long.

Different tread placement is rather blatant, and how this would transform is different than Tarn (such as Tarn's chest becoming the plow while Bludgeon's forms part of the turret). I don't think it was actually intended as being derived from Tarn in this design, just that the designers at Hasbro looked at it, looked at Tarn, and said they were close enough.

would you make a lot of changes? I would.. simple things, like ideally having the wings connected to the back, and letting the bee armor fold away on the arms so the hands are exposed.. and maybe doing something more interesting and elaborate with the fish part, could have the front of the fish head fold down to be a chest, revealing the inner robot head which still wears the rest of the fish head as a big hat.

Oh, and Ginrai would be essentially remolded into a proper Powermaster block, even if it's just a decorative fixture, along with how they could just hide the base Ginrai head inside the cab and turn the super helmet into a hitch with a gimmick to remove the part connecting to the hitch so that it can move together with the base head. If I said the mold thought so hard for possibilities, I meant it.

That alone made the Earthrise mold more appealing to me, it needs dlc parts to get the altmode looking right, but I'd take that over being forced to hamhandle it to transform it.

You can ask Aaron Archer about that whenever he does his next Toy Armada stream. Though while it wouldn't make sense for the treads to be on the rear half of the truck especially when it's standalone without the trailer I won't lie just thinking of the possibility we could've gotten Optimus Prime Super Mode with treads on arms that's ready to grind Decepticons is just so fucking cool that I can't believe they missed that opportunity.

Bruh, Aaron Archer was the head designer at Hasbro during the late 1990s to early 2000s and Armada was his first full fledged line that he was in charge of. He didn't design all of them yes, he mostly worked on the Decepticons but Optimus is the one Autobot design he did do.

AFAIK it's intended to represent a cab and trailer, but isn't the most convincing. The treads were motorized. In order to push the altmode forward without veering off course there couldn't be a swivel hitch, and also the integrated transformation further damaged the appearance of a separate truck and trailer.
