And I found I was actually a little disappointed with the Mantis too. His sculpt is ok I guess, but the spray on his torso only makes it look like he's wearing a weird gold sleeveless vest. I am still puzzled as to why they did that. The black eyes are also a bad choice on the dark green plastic, why not red like the box art? And even though it was the 90s, I was disappointed with his articulation. The simple swivels combined with his pre-folded mantis claws means he really can't do anything useful or cool looking at all. Whether you angle his arms up or down, it just looks awkward.
