I have a Gan speed cube but I need to get back into practice. Once I had a good algorithm memorized I was cooking but eventually other stuff started distracting me and I stopped playing with it. I also have a Gan pyramid that I still haven't solved.

I'd recommend z3cubing for a decent tutorial on that. Once you get the hang of it, it's a fun speedsolve.

Whats the current sweetspot for price/performance if i want to get a 3x3 speed cube? I would prefer something relatively simple in terms of tuning that requires a 1 time setup procedure i can copy pretty easily, i don't want to get into one of the more advanced magnet cubes that has 50 different adjustment points or i will just spend weeks fucking around with the adjustments instead of cubing.

It's getting old, but it has been the untouched benchmark for budget cubes that give high class performance.
The only tweaking you can do is screw depth and spring tension. I used it for BLD because it's so smooth and easy to feel.

Stopped cubing ages ago. Last competition I went to I was very annoyed by all of the kids. It ain't a hundred people on a forum any more.

true, that's the big thing making not want to compete, all of the kids with special needs running about. That and being shit.
But online, cubing is still big I think, jperm is back, z3 is still going strong, new cubes all the time.

In San Diego it was a bunch of indian and SEA kids. Enterprising little shits were selling lube to each other. I don't hate the kids so much as their proud parents. I met Max Park, though. And I almost made this dude cry because I forgot to reset the timer while judging. I'm probably on youtube somewhere. These new kids treat it it's their big special day. I suppose I would too if I traveled 100 miles.
The old competitions had a club atmosphere.
