Man, actually referencing Whiplash being from Demon Zone, that's a deep cut.

It feels like NE tries to boost up a lot of characters by making them leaders of their own factions, be it kingdoms, tribes, pirates crews or whatever.

What would you call best MOTU toys aside from actual important MOTU lines? So no vintage, Classics, Origins, Masterverse but stuff like ReAction, Word's Smallest, Funko, McDonalds toys, etc.

Worth noting that Masterverse is doing now either figures that Classics did or that didnt exist during Classics or at least werent owned by Mattel. The MV figures that could have been done by Classics would be making New Eternia line which is basically what they did by doing Filmation - find a way to sell vintage toys all over again.

Now I realised that Masterverse doing numerous sublines each in their own continuity feels like intentionally going away from huge joined narrative thing Classics did.

The articulation they've packed into 2-inch bodies would be close to Origins if they'd add ball ankles (Ninja Turtles and Halo Marines have a swivel). The Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain builds are better than the Classics playsets they're based on, as the Not!Lego system is the only way you'll ever be able to have additional rooms as seen in the fiction. And the brick quality became indistinguishable from Lego by the time they started making builds, so the vehicles have a pretty solid feel, so that and studs mostly being tiled over makes them feel like an equal but space-saving alternative to vintage/Origins.

I own Vintage, 200X, Classics, Origins, and Masterverse, and Mega Construx is the best Motu line.
Characters have a good amount of detail and excellent articulation for their size.
The sets have fun and interesting builds.
The figures, vehicles, and playsets all scale better with each other than any other Motu line.
The line takes up far less shelf space while keeping the same aesthetics.

There’s definitely some negatives when it comes to distribution, but it’s hands down my favorite Motu iteration. It’s a shame more fans don’t try it out.

At least we’re getting Eternia. I never expected that.

the way I see it classics diehards are just far more devoted to the line because they were in on it at the ground level. classics showed up at a perfect time (right around the time where most OG fans began reminiscing about vintage and filmation), and the early figures, nailed the basic premise to the letter. say what you will about the later releases but all of the vintage characters were done perfectly for the most part. Even taking the limited articulation into consideration they're hefty chunky figures with incredible sculpts that aged really well. Compared to alot of the earlier masterverse figures alot is left to be desired. That said, the gap seems to be closing. New Eternia is going to be Classics 2.0.

Assuming they go by the comic, I'm pretty sure the Teela from issue 3 is the most notable. There's talks of the shield maiden Teela but I don't think she was ever shown. I can't imagine we get a Teela with this few clothes though.

The budget for MOTU comics probably isn't that high, so they have to spread the budget around. Since each story is by a different artist, and the overlying story with Sorceress and Zodac (both from the Revelation universe) has its artist, there probably isn't much for any artist of particular note. Plus doing it this way makes every story more unique.

I'm not sure the degree to which Jukka has insider info (I know he is one of those Old Guard .orgers that has connections), but if this post is accurate, they're not spoiling the show this time around. So maybe that's why no Horde. Can't announce Revolution Mantenna without giving away Mantenna will be in Revolution.

But of course, we also have alleged leaks saying Cyborg Skeletor is coming soon, and that kinda spoilery...like we know he was getting roboticized at the end of the last season, but we don't know what the final product will look like so I'd kinda consider it a spoiler if we see the toy before a trailer or something, so who knows

I'd go with MOTUC minis or Mega Construx. The later is almost close in articulation to the Origins line and with such small size they won me over.
Minis lack that articulation but those bulky designs are expressions are a must buy too for me.

As a Lego fag let me tell you that is exactly why they won't sell them individually. There's no way they've failed to notice how insane Lego fans are for minifigs, and will hope to sell expensive sets to people who don't care about the sets by including figures you can't get elsewhere.

Extendar should be oversized. Imagine if he was an 8 or 9 inch figure as a default? Then with extension pieces he'd probably top out at 13 or 14 inches.

Tung Lashor would make a pretty wild deluxe if you include stuff to make him either toy accurate or concept/cartoon accurate. You'd need an alt head, plug in tongue compatible with both heads, both Snake and Horde accessories, alternate hands.

I feel like they seriously fail to comprehend size differences between MOTU and Marvel. It's hard to think of franchise that produces as many products and for as long as Marvel does. They have years and years of material to pick from and it's more recognizable too. They could make toys of Plantman, Scarecrow, Eel, Unicorn and Porcupine and those would have bigger audiences than Jarvan, Demos and Tyrella, Azrog or Tauron.

Not to mention the dozens of ways they can reuse their most popular characters Different identities, costumes, mutations.Spider-Man alone must have hundreds of costumes. Aside from few toyline variants (like Battle Armor He-Man or Samurai Skeletor), Motu has only handful of memorable variants (like Slime Pit He-Man, Snake Teela or Preternia Disguise He-Man) plus varations based on designs from different cartoons and movies.

No. I chose to buy single figures form a company that was selling dingle figures.
and collected heroes from a company that produced sets of collective heroes.
The Skelletor heads were okay but I woul dhave *prefered* thy coul dhave been actually used as builds in a better way. - sort of like how the CoD shipping containers gave you the ability to make small set pieces. That at least was a heck of a lot more palatable than
"You want the figures? - buy the building sets"

I ended up getting 2 She Ra's in adition to the one that came with the set I bought and a bunch of Trek yellowshirts to fill out my MEGA landing parties.

You should take my attitude...I only intend to buy one line, so the second I consider Masterverse to have "surpassed" Origins, I'm jumping ship.
(And by surpassed I mean either: 1) beating Origins to the punch on figures I'm most impatient for; 2) if favs of mine end up in Masterverse and never get Origins or 3) the officially start blowing the fuck out of Origins in terms of how the figures look. We're currently having 2 major toylines, Origins and Masterverse.

Masterverse is producing toys in various sublines, mainly based on ond MOTU toylines/shows (such as Revelation, Filmation She-Ra, New Adventures, CGI, movie...) but there is one subline that isn't based on existing MOTU continuity: New Eternia.

New Eternia refers to itself as "original designed based on classic concepts" In this line they release vintage characters in new designs, although usually you can swap armor, head or weapons around to create look very close to vintage looks. For example He-Man is mostly He-Man with different chest logo and optional shoulderpads, boot knife and helmeted head. NE redesigns usually take inspiration from early concept art of characters although sometimes there is some influence from 200X or Filmation. Aside from bios on the back, New Eternia lately started showing up in Masterverse comic books but all stories seem completely disjointed from each other so it doesn't seem like we're getting any single coherent New Eternia universe in there.

Of course, Whiplash is probably the BEST NE so far, and they're not all this level in terms of new looks. Like Zodac only has shoulder pads to change his look. And MEF gets 3 additional faces, but his actual body is pretty unchanged with no extra removable armor or accessories

Because Origins is the only one I can think of. Those retro toylines like Origins, Marvel Legends, Retro, Star Wars Retro, McFarlane Super Powers, Legends of Dragonore seem like a good way to sell toys with simpler sculpts, less paint, few acessories and relatively limited articulation (although usually better that what vintage toys had) but I guess gimmicks are one vintage accuracy that is not cost saving so they're usually dropped.

WHy would they go back to vintage when NE is suppose to be something fresh and new take on characters. Even the cocept art it's based on didn't paint his bare feet blue. NE Beastman got barefeet instead of the vintage boots. I can't see why they did make Whiplases feet just green. They went and sculpted all that scales on it too.

It's currently fastest growing subline of Masterverse after Revelation.Most have like 2 toys but they have 17 toys confirmed so far.

Generally the ones that dont have concept art to work with - Clawful, Zodac, Jitsu, Buzz-Off, Webstor - I would describe as vaguely 200X-ish (though Clawful also has yellow armor from cartoon)

Others look more or less closely to their concept art. He-Man is vert faithful while Skeletor takes light inspiration from Demo-Dan in weapon and face. Two-Bad just takes logo and weapon from his. Stratos is basically minicomic look but grey and with extra mask and weapon that combines Egg and Staff of Avion. Beast Man wears skin of a bear that was his early concept art. Faker has pink armor like in crossart. Man-E-Faces has one face taken from his concept. (honestly aside from mask suitcase to carry in his hand or on his back, he just has 3 extra faces. You can literally swap him from vintage to New Eternia with a turn of a dial.

Let's look at X-Men cartoons and toylines. TAS from 1992? As with all Marvel toys, Toy Biz gave each unique gimmick. X-Men Evolution from 2000? Each toy was packaged with extra part like laser canon or toxic barrel just to make sure each toy has "triple x-treme action!" numerous action features. Wolverine and the X-Men from 2009? Figures come with one accessory each.

Overall action figures focus on articulation and accessories and gimmick toys are usually a separate category - they had odder sculpts, are generally designed to perform their gimmick and little else and only few main characters get them. Also same gimmick is repeated several time with few characters.

In TMNT toyline almost no character had gimmicks but turtles had numerous figures, some of them made with new designs and weapons in mind, some of them with gimmicks that were generally repeated between all turtles - ziplines, spitting water, bulging eyes, storage shells, retracting heads, changing color in water, etc.

the most recent examples that come to mind are those RGB styled Stranger Things figures bandai put out. By now Id have expected that to be all the rage but it seems like super poseability and 5 poa are still the extreme standards across the industry. Also that CGI story perfectlyillustrates how weird it is that Netflix series rush trough plotpoint with limited number of episodes and no filer.

This is a basic story: Randor rules Eternos and knows Adam's secret, Skeletor schemes with Evil-Lyn and Trap Jaw in Snake Mountain (with heroes knowing about them) and Masters hang out together in Castle Grayskull with Orko and Eldress.

And there is no point in the series where this could possibly take place.

The closest to making sense would be if Fakers were sleeper agents that awoke after end of the series, they would only have to change everyone costumes and remove Eldress.

Skelcon is really cool, I'd be fine with it being a standalone character if they gave it a new paint job to differentiate it from Skeletor.

(I remember a couple years ago getting so excited when he made similar posts with the Gygor prototype and Dylamug concept art, but nope, no toys. Just Dyla on the Horde powercon box and Gygor's teaser even got cut from the box he was supposed to be on...he was on the rough draft of the Eternian Guard box in the midst of the Skeleton Warriors).
I would HOPE He-Ro is getting a toy, but given the above...yeah, I'm not gonna get excited yet. All this might mean is "He-Ro cameo on Eternia's box" or something

I am very loose Transformers fan. I basically only watched Beast Wars and Prime (and G1 movie). I have watched Beast Machines but I didnt care that much for it and I might have seen first Bay movie, I can't remember anymore. I do consider trying IDW comics due to high recomendations.

TMNT/MOTU is pretty much it for me, I was never fan of any other toy franchises. Unless they would have MOTU crossover with Ben 10. (Marvel and DC are fine too if you would count them)

ironically thats why I want to see that crossover the most. turtles have always been easy crossover material. in that sense they're like batman, hellboy, or spiderman. they work on their own just as well as they do with others. Transformers is kind of the same in that regard too. But MOTU, specifically MOTU vehicles? that's such a tall order. I think the most interesting thing that could come from a crossover like this are a series of origins scaled crssovers like the gijoe ones. Imagine a road ripper that transforms into a foot tall robot.

The crossover was just putting 2 separate lines into the same box, not specifically MOTU in DCUC or DC in MOTUC. Unless you mean the outliers where some figures used MOTU bucks, like the DKR figures, or KGBeast.

You can swap armor with NE Faker to make vintage version.

Speaking of...would any of you guys want more Revelation in Origins after King Grayskull?
Because you know I'd really like the new dinosaurs, and Masterverse doesn't really seem gungho on doing more creatures/vehicles, so Origins seems the place to ask for them.
I'd also like an Origins version of Pope Tri-Klops. And I also liked the way the redesigned Skelcons with the bracers and boots so if they ever got a toy in Origins, I'd want that more than the Classics style one

But is it really though? Masterverse is still going after 11 waves, they still make Revelations figures which you would think thry WOULDN'T after all this time if they sold that bad, and it was obviously successful enough that they invested in a sequel series.
You could probably anecdotally say it's not AS successful as Origins, but it's clearly meeting whatever metric Mattel is using to gauge success. I really doubt a Revelation figure here or there would suddenly get Origins cancelled.

Anecdotally, I've never seen a Revelation figure pegwarm as long as Origins Wave 7. The dreaded women wearing trousers sold through faster than Skelegod, who MIGHT have lasted two Christmases at the occasional Wal-Mart or Target like Origins 7 consistently has.

Nta but let's think about the releases.
Skelegod, Battle Cat, wave 1, were all flops relative to how much volume was produced.
Waves 2 and 3 didn't fare so well either. KG warms shelves a bit (I do wish they had a sku one cheaper than deluxe, because he, along with some recent ones like Clawful, seem like they'd fit better there, along with She-Ra and Hordak).
Faker flopped as well, but the other 2 deluxes, Trap Jaw and Tri-Klops did pretty well. I assume He-Ro is doing alright.

I think Revelation stuff probably sells according to how well they're executed. It certainly doesn't help that NE releases just seem a lot better, between more accessories, better sculpts/paint, etc.

Be it toy concept or Filmation versions, Octavia and Dialamug have a lot of new tooling, and if they can get the go ahead on She-Ra characters that aren't just the one She-Ra they already did, it might be wise to hold off doing more Horde until you can ship them out together.

DESU, I meant completely new. Doing Queen Andreeno would be about as new as doing Kol-Darr or He-Skeletor or Sharella. It's more digging in motu history like Classics did.

Positive reaction to Frog Monger made me thing that Origins should give a try to making brand new, unburdened by past characters. Truly continue vintage line by doing what vintage did 90% of the time- making new stuff. And if they were to do that then most likely they would introduce character that appeared in artwork by now like those various snakes appearing in Kol-Darr art or cyclops.

If you split hairs that way, Frog Monger isn't really "new" either. He's from the Grayskull sticker of the vintage playset. They didn't make him up from nothing. They just slapped a name on an art work creature the same way Sharella is slapping a name on a boxart girl.

If you mean brand new, based on literally nothing that existed before Origins, the only truly new shit is the Skeleton Warriors and the cyclops, and maybe the red kobra khan repaint. Everything else I can tell you exactly what it's based on.

Yeah, the two crossovers are pretty delightful.
The minicomic omnibus is like $25 (or search for yohoho scans on your favorite readcomicsonline mirror) and contains some of the best and the worst (worst being a much smaller percentage, thankfully).
The 2010s DC run (MotU #1-19?, then retitled Eternity War) had some great plot arcs like the Snake Men turning good. How much you like other plot arcs like Despara depends on your tolerance for grimdark (writer Dan Abnett literally did 40K novels prior to this).

Won-Dar and Grizzlor were like 5 minute sell outs, but all the rest have been in the 35 min-50 min range, except Space Sumo who took like a couple weeks

They've done 4/5 vintage toys, Keldor with Alcala Skeletor head and non-200X shins/loincloth/accessories, 200X, Snake Armor from the 200X toy line. Filmation is leaked for next year.
NA and CGI to catch up with He-Man wouldn't be too surprising: they're already doing them for Masterverse.
200X variants are pretty loathed by the fandom, so while there are like a dozen they could do, they're all pretty unlikely.
Personally I believe that if they go into single-carded New Adventures characters, they really should make Disks of Doom Skeletor, with removable helmet. That represents >90% of his screen time on the cartoon.

I loved the Masters of the WWE Universe. I'm not sure which of them are cheap enough to recommend picking up. But Mr. T, Jake the Snake, and Hogan are amazing. Any of them that you can work well as new motu characters.

As for Superstars, Papa Shengo and Mankind fit in well as villains. Honky Tonk is based and his jumpsuit looks good on Skeletor.

it's one of the best lines Mattel ever stumbled into making. I can only recommend the wrestlers who were at their biggest in the 80's. Sgt Slaughter is the best of the entire line.
