I wanted to get Draculaura (Gen 3) as my first ever doll since I really like how it looks, but here in Italy it's 37 euros compared to the US where it's nearly half of that. Any reason on this? All Monster High dolls here are expensive

Import fees, duty fees, and other international fees inflate the price. Back when doll forums existed, you could ask someone in the US to pick up the doll for you then ship it to you and it would often be cheaper that way. I guess people don't do that anymore.

Just got two Wave 1 Skulltimate Draculaura's, Wave 2 isn't doing it for me but Wave 1 is so cute.

Deciding if I want to preorder Abby/Clawd to round out my complete G3 OG model collection or just buy in store.

I only recently got into buying MH, Draculaura in particular, and I guess I was lucky enough to find a W1 Skulltimate Drac at Walmart. Does she stay rare like this? I would love to also get my hands on the Playset Drac when it comes out as well. Monsterball would be cool too

Draculaura is the most desired of the line so her dolls are usually the hardest to get a hold of, back when G3 released getting her core doll was the hardest to get, I never saw her in stores and had to haunt Target.com to snipe one. I doubt Skulltimate will stay super rare depending on how much they run it but whenever her releases are new they usually get snapped up and oversold. I caved and bought her Howliday for 100$ back when it was super fucking unclear what the release was going to look like because it was the best G1 doll I'd seen in years

As >>10430972 said, fashion doll bodies are usually somewhat extreme because clothes look better on them. Fabrics used for doll clothes and human clothes are generally equally thick, so you need to adjust the doll body to avoid making them look blocky when dressed.

harley restyle i did recently, i took this basically as soon as she was done so that's why the hair's looking a little wispy since i hadn't completely finished brushing some of it out, might go back and make it a bit spikier-looking as well, but she's the first proper full restyle i've done

I don't think giving the dolls lordosis made the clothes look better. Sure clothes add bulk but the weird sway back on monster high was just a strange choice and didn't enhance the fashions at all.

This is why I miss g1 mh, the extremely outlandish bodies really emphasized the fashion perfectly. And helped the dolls stand out. G3 doesn't hold up nearly as well, and looks like any other doll out there. Only the monster element gives it any sort of special characteristic.

The monster element in g3 isn’t even that great. They just babyfied g1’s designs instead of at least trying. That’s why lagoona looks like a generic mermaid instead of a sea monster. They wanted to make og lagoona marketable to new age children instead of taking risks like g1. Ghoulia and Torelei got the same extremes of this treatment as well.

It's meant to look weird and creepy because it's a monster line. Everything about it was supposed to be different than the standard fashion doll (articles called it "the anti-Barbie" back then). This is probably something that is pretty arbitrary to most but a really big issue I have with G3 are what they did to the pets. They're so goddamn boring, their figures all look the same and like discount LPS animals. They made all of them go down the most safe and uncreative routes possible, Cleo isn't allowed to have a snake it's another fucking dog, I don't know why it wasn't just a scarab, Clawdeen now has an unironic wolf cub, Watzit's design is way too generic and boring, Count Fabulous is now some half cat-bat shapeshifter for more "cute" points I guess, Dustin just looks like a normal rabbit instead of a literal dust bunny, even Neptuna was given weird fucking cat-ear fins.
I actually really liked G1's pets even if they were a bit gimmicky, they were still all really unique and weren't afraid to keep them weird-looking.

the inset eyes caused a lot of wonk issues. Instead of removing it, they could've copied how MGA does inset eyes.

Babyfication of the brand. They must be pleasant and always smiling. Because of that, G1 will always be more in-demand for customizers and resting-bitch-face enthusiasts

I hope the customizers run out of G1 dolls to customize. I hate the old skinny ass body and want them to use he more interesting new body types in customs. The old dolls are so skinny and frail looking and that's fine but if I'm paying $100+ for a custom I want a sturdier more substantial body.

The solution is to just not base a doll sculpt on an irl human. It almost never works. I can see it as ok sometimes for novelty celebrity dolls, but in this case it makes no sense. Margot was cast because she supposed to look like a doll who already exists (Barbie). Why then change the sculpt of Barbie to look like Margot? This choice is completely backwards. They should have used the superstar sculpt for the movie dolls. That's what Margot is supposed to look like in the film.

I didn't think it looked that bad at all and compared to Pinocchio CGI was a gotdamn masterpiece. It already made 117mil which is good money post pandemic. Oddly I thought halle was the best part of the movie and put the most effort in of all the actors. The sculpts don't serve well for repaints either, if only the eyes weren't sculpted bulging out then maybe there could be more variety of prints as well as lend themselves better to customs.

They manage to make the weird bobble head to look masculine enough. Their choice of fashion is good. male fashion is often dull but so far the OMG designer have managed to explore interesting male fashion trends without making it super gay.
