NakNak - What was their deal?

Anyone have any infi on Hasbro's NakNak toys? I've found myself absoutley fixated on a memory of them recently, but there's so little about them online, no fan sites or community or NakNak scene at all.
Do you remember these things, ever play with them? What's their whole deal?
Should I set up a fan site for this odd little toy line?

me and a friend across the street collected these. Robot characters have no fingers or toes, as seen in the top middle figure. Humans have curled fingers for grabbing but rudimentary toes. Magic wizard types have curled toes. Aliens must have fingers but non-existent toes. and then theres that abstract 77 fellow with feet for arms and robot legs.

I remember these archetypes vividly.
Some of these were cool, I'd like to collect the neatest ones. Yea go for it, make a database/site. Link it to /toy/ unashamedly and frequently Because I definitely wouldn't want to miss it

It is hitting me that these werent just for colelcting and stacking but there is some sort of game to play with that dice! HA! I never had any interest in the game itself.

There was an “event” and hasbro tried to bury it and distance themselves from the toyline. That’s why it’s so hard to find information on it.

Some time later, I had to help my grandma’s church with a renovation
further upstate and found a box of them in the youthe center. They had this cresent moon shaped playset that had could rotate on a platform and was covered in little ridges for the “toe curls” to latch onto

Pretty sure I remember these more as a Happy Meal toy than any retail kind of thing. At least that's what comes to mind first for me.
