That dead Prowl kind of passes me off. I didn't get the ER because of the head and lack of any shoulder weapons (I don't care that he didn't have them in the show, the toy should still include them) and now the new one had battle damage and a sad face.

No new weapons and the only improvement is the clear plastic replaced with normal plastic.

Yes, they made a new mold, for all we know it also includes parts for a normal version in the future. Whenever they make up new parts and heads are included that weren't on the base mold, they're likely to add a second.

Am I the only one who wishes they didn't give this Optimus the dual wrist-blades?
They worked for Bay Optimus because he had very long limbs and comparitively lithe proportions, meanwhile this Prime is obv much more boxy. Looking at him, I don't believe that he's capable of waving those swords around as effectively.
Tl;dr should've given him a gigantic axe like G1 or the WfC games, to fit his beefier physique, lol.

They'll do it as long as it sells. Transformers is a crazy line. Thousands of random characters who don't show up in any media for decades can get new toys because fuck it, why not? We get toys based on:

-animation errors
-toy version
-comic version
-diaclone version
-cartoon version
-Japanese show version
-likeness based on a fucking custom toy
-games
-cancelled toys

And people will fucking buy it.

A fixed version of the ER Datsun mold was warranted. Its weird that they wasted it on a dead version.

Yeah, but it's likely a normal one will come out. The new mold is likely replacing the mold that includes the heads, and bumper pieces since the new one would have the headlights molded on instead of the clear parts that slotted there.

The original release didn't include the right head. They probably got some extra budget and thought it was better/cheaper to retool this mold than to make a whole new one when this one is close to being perfect for a generations figure.

Also, if I remember correctly, the cannons were molded out of the same sturdier plastic used on the head and bumper so we might get new cannons for a toy variant.

It's not like we're saying he needs a new mold like Ironhide, just fix the ER mold. Which the dead DID fix, but it's also dead.
Hell, they even slightly fixed Dirge in the repack.

The only one of these Datsuns I've bought since Universe Prowl was Barricade, and thats mostly because he came packaged with Punch/Counterpunch

ER Prowl was a mess, wrong head, entirely too much black, so much clear plastic on his lower legs they were practically see-through.
Damage aside, Dead Prowl's car might look a little bland but the robot mode is spot on, and presumably sturdier at the knees.

the differences are subtle, but many

tarantulas was missing some small painted areas on his thighs, that's basically it. Dinobot needs an overhaul, they used grey where they should have used tan. but he also needs new dino feet dagnabbit. they can still be similar, but let the thumb parts point down and let the front toes bend up so he can walk like a proper raptor.

This doesn't look bad because the vehicle isn't a 100% faithful 280Z, even as a genericized version it's still unmistakably a Datsun.
They could have quite easily remolded some things to make it closer to the cartoon, recessed headlights, rear end without spoiler, head, made a lot of people who missed out on the ER happy, instead they wasted a mold on things nobody wants.

indeed. but it is a scan of an alien life form, something which we should have seen a lot more of. So one mode is alien mode (complete with flatwoods homage) and the other is a robot mode that is mildly alien-themed the way cheetor's robot mode is cat-themed. but then everything gets filtered through beast machines' beauty filter, and she ends up like this.

I saw the movie. It's [spoiler:lit]bad. Holy shit, they had the perfect opportunity to learn from Bumblebee and instead they regress back to Bayverse storytellng. Things happen because the plot requires them to happen, in direct contradiction to what's show earlier in the movie. Characters know things they should not be able to know. Concepts are half-explained AT BEST. Multiple characters are clearly there just to pad out the cast and have very little characterization or development. The early action is actually good, but they fall back to "guys look we're killing hordes of generics isn't it cool". Speaking if generics, they literally, LITTERALLY, come out of nowhere with no explaination. At least they stuck with this and Bumblebee being a reboot, I'm honestly shocked they didn't muddy it up with Bayverse.[/spoiler:lit]

Transformers Generations Thrilling 30s Roadbuster

This is a toy that exists.
I don't think it's unfair to say that Roadbuster is the forgotten child of T30.
He was caught between the highs of Springer and Sandstorm and the lows of Blitzwing and the oddities of Whirl and Sky-byte.

He even does a bang up job of looking like a mish-mash cross between Springer and Sandstorm in alt mode here.
With the added gimmick of carrying his own armory. Like Whirl, Roadbuster comes packed with a load of weapons. Including what might be one of the last spring-loaded missiles Hasbro did.

In hand Roadbuster's colours are about four shades darker but my camera captured them this way for some reason.

Okay so... I'm no toy mod guy, but I can tell you they both use the same size knee pin, and both are only on one side.. which I think means you can't easily remove it. One has ball socket hips that can be popped off, the other doesn't, so no dice replacing the entire leg
not sure why you'd wanna do this though since the aesthetics wouldn't match for shit, but it was a neat idea.

Good news and bad news
Good news is that he's beefier than I remember, still not as big as AHM but the the string bean I recalled.

The bad news is that I remembered what I didn't like.
It's two things. First being an over abundance of soft ratchet joints. That just gives the toy a bad feel.
And second is the unusually sloppy paint job. It's too thick in some spots, too thin in others, and bleeding all over the place.
We'll harp on Hasbro but this is just clearly below their standard.

Big fan of the head. Lot's of unique features to emphasize the DORVACKy goodness

Roadbuster's got a lot of posability, but like I said before It doesn't feel good.
His neck is the only ball joint featured today.
His shoulder have soft ratchets for both axis.
Elbows are double jointed, one soft rachet, one pin hinge. The pinned elbow joint isn't nearly as strong as the ratchet and will droop when holding the big gun in most poses.
Biceps are on mushroom pegs. The deformed kind that would rather pp themselves apart than turn.

Forward and back on the hips are actual hard ratchets, Outward motion is on a pinned hinge that you can't really use. The orange part of the the thigh crashes right into the bumper.
Thighs swivel a bit. And the knees are double jointed, letting Roadbuster bend his knees all the way to 90 degrees,
Ankles are kind of crazy. The got tilt, double jointed forward and back and a swivel.
It's too bad the ffet look like doofy planks and the heel are near non existent.

Waist and wrists are completely immoblie.

Movie was pretty good. Better than most of Bay’s films at least, but a bit of a downgrade from the Bee movie.

The Autobots felt like actual characters but the Maximals, except for Primal and Airazor, we’re just kind of there. I don’t think Rhinox ever said a word and Airazor stayed in beast mode the whole time.

I’m sick of giant sky lasers in these kinds of movies though.

It's mostly because the shins Kingdom Cheetor comes with are unsightly due to their engineering but ROTB fixed that.

I *really* like primal, I'd say he's easily the best of the bunch. They are all good though. Cheetor is the only melee weapon so far, but he's neat too. Maybe he could use a little silver paint. I'm really hoping hasbro retools him into Dinobot, he definitely wants to he a sword

sorry man, I think your plan is DoA. RotB cheetor has a double mushroom peg, Kingdom has a single. Plus it seems to be a 'captured' peg, I couldn't get it to budge and it looks like a much smaller aperture than usual.

Finished the movie. No lie, It was good. BUT if you have a problem with the current "urbification" thing going on with most IP;s these days, skip it. They really laid that sht on in this movie. It was basically a 2 hour long rap video. The cringe seeing transfomers smothered wth the ghetto vibe was overboard.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of that either. I also hated the corny jokes. Bayverse had plenty of tasteless, unfunny jokes too but at least SOME hit. Every joke this movie was absolute cringe, and I heard nobody but a few small children and an actual autistic tard laugh.
At least the robot fighting was cool, and the rest of the story was cool enough. Bumblebee's part was pretty cool, but I wish they'd calm down with the bee wank a bit to let other bots have a spotlight. What did Wheeljack do? Nothing. Did Cheetor or Rhinox even get any voice lines aside from their introduction? Would've been nice to give more screentime to other bots.

The toys from the first waves were based on concept art, like Jetstorm.Then the Battle for the Spark waves were more accurate, colors notwithstanding. We saw the same thing with RotB figures, the actual RotB line would have come out last year if not for the movie getting delayed, with the more movie accurate SS ones being based on more finalized designs coming out now.

Wait, Vanquish? As in this guy? I'm not familiar with the character, but it's cool if they're giving human characters mech suits to become Minicons - at least it makes things a bit more plausible for them to go up against the big 'bots by wearing armored suits, as opposed to how comical it was to see standard Marines taking down Decepticons with machineguns in the Bayverse films.

It's not a wholly Transformers exclusive thing. At some point you inevitably will have to choose how you spend your time and when your collection gets to a significant enough size it will become impossible to completely remember all of it or find enough time to interact with it often enough. Figures WILL be put by the wayside in favor of X new product or just because you don't feel like playing with it even if you still love it.

Once you learn to accept this it becomes a lot easier to simply enjoy what you are able to buy and get your hands on as long as you're not spending money simply to chase a high. That's when you know it's a problem.

I'm going through some shit right now. Ive been sick the past few years and sleeping or in bed a lot. When I try to play or enjoy my toys my back pain flares up which can lead to other pains flaring up. My sickness and how I can't enjoy anything due to pain lead to depression.

I find toy news and hunting for toys so much fun though so I won't give it up. But I am trying to only buy what I absolutely love the most. I completely gave up Lego and Gunpla though because it hurt me more than anything. This year I only bought/preordered 8 Transformers. And I try to be happy if I can at yhe very least Transform it once and put it on my shelf.

I gave up using a computer chair and use a stand up desk and I have plans for physio too. Bought some comfy things to lay on. This isn't my worst health issue though so yeah it's been hell the last 7 or 8 years.

Found out that my local comic shop recently bought a huge lot of loose Fall of Cybertron trilogy/Legacy figures from a sad sack collector who's going through a divorce Wednesday.

Asked the shop owner what figures he had and if he had WFC Trilogy Ratbat/Frenzy-Rumble (never fucking saw the pack at retail and refused to pay the $50+ it goes for online). Shop said he had them in and asked if the owner could hold them for me as he was selling the Micromasters for about $6 a piece.

Get to the store and low and behold he didn't have them, just the repaints. Lucky for him I have Doubledealer and had never picked up the box set with the Rumble-Frenzy/Ratbat repaints of his Powermaster partners, so I bought them and Wingthing. But the big haul I got was Netflix Soundwave and his cassettes, which I saw at retail only ONCE when I was dead broke and never again.

Netflix Soundwave was selling for $50 and I bought him on the spot. Really good figure and I have to fucking ask why the hell he didn't get mass release instead of WFC trilogy Soundwave, especially since they waited too fucking long to put out a clean version of him and the Netflix version immediately making him irrelevant in terms of outdatedness.

I also saw Netflix Bumblebee for about $15. I DID luck out and get him at retail so I'm thinking about getting him purely to flip online. Sadly the store didn't fucking have Cliffjumper who I saw in stores but didn't have cash for when he was released.

Most of the casual fanbase doesn’t seem to agree, and by that I mean the ones who only watch the movies and a few childhood tv shows. To be fair on Megatron and Laser Prime, the shoulder pylons are pretty big; if they moved with the shoulders they'd probably cause even more problems and having them on separate armatures would be outside of Hasbro's meagre budget. Also I do find it kinda funny people give LP and Megatron shit for this but nobody complains about Blitzwing having the exact same problem- and even less excusable given how much smaller his shoulder kibble is. I suppose given what a crappy toy Blitzwing is anyway that's the least of his worries.

Quick movie review: Humans were bad and ugly.

Mirage had the most screen time but not toys. A lot of the toys weren’t in the movie. Movie was bad. No development, no big payoff. D box seats barely moved. Optimus prime had no development he was just there. If the Bay movies are a 6 then this was a 2.

So I caved and got the RotB Voyger Rhinox. Not the Studio Series the other one.

He's pretty good, actually. Transformation is way easier than the Kingdom version. Sahme about the chaingun shouldrs, though.

Came back from the theater. I'm not convinced the movie was worth full price.
For shitposting reasons, I liked the way both the minority human leads entered the plot proper through committing a felony.
Can't help but notice that despite mentioning several times how good he is with electronics, Noah never did anything related to it after he jury-rigged the cable box for that guy at the start. But I guess that's better than sitting through the whole movie wondering what plot contrivance will make being a good swimmer relevant, like with Bumblebee.
Also, I found it funny that the [spoiler:lit]G.I.Joe HR Rep[/spoiler:lit] at the end was played by Kung Fu Jesus' former CIA handler from Person of Interest.
The credits were too damn quick, I barely noticed that Airazor was played by Michelle Yeoh as I suspected, and I couldn't catch the names any of the Transformers that weren't named in the movie proper.

Small tweaks had to be made, Scorponok has that upgrade that gives him longer legs and a better stinger, Quickstrike is an OSKO and Airazor booba are 3d printed.

Transformers Generations thrilling 30s Bumblebee

Finally, the last one

Bumblebee turns into a mostly made-up muscle car. Done in solid yellow with two black stripes. Pretty standard look by now.
Accents include painted headlights and painted tail lights and exhaust.
As well as painted and pinned wheels, which at this point were already becoming a rarity.

Maybe it's because the rear windshield is painted on but the completely untinted windows look off to me. Like, normally you can't see inside a Transformer this well.
What helps is that the robot stuff almost gives the illusion of seats at a glance.

And of course Bee opted for the optional weapon ports at the dealer so he's got a spot to plug is giant stinger blaster things into.

Bee is a repaint or prepaint of Nightbeat, I can't remember.
Either way they look the same.

This Bumblebee was one of the larger design departures of the time. Taking the movie, then Prime, look and stretching the fenders off the chest and onto the shoulders.
So I guess Cyberverse Bee might owe a lot to this look.

Colours are pretty much unchanged, but now you can see the head lights and tail lights at the same time.
And there's some grey breaking up the yellow at the thighs and biceps. Could use a touch of lack around the belt area I think.

I like his face. The light piping works but i a very light colour and the mouth is sculpted in a way to give Bee a very slight smile.

Opposite of new Laser Prime and Armada Megatron, I wish there as a way to keep this toy's shoulders pointed up.
I think because it also brings the door wings down when you lift the arm.

Bumblebee's shoulder are on a pair of hinges with a swivel between them.
Head can look around but no up and down.
Elbows can bend and swivel but there's a little nub on Bee's biceps that get in the way if try to do both at once.

Waist can swivel, which I wasn't expecting.
Hips are ball jointed and thighs can swivel.
Knees are on very soft ratchets, strange choice.
And the ankles can wiggle around a bit but the joint connecting them to the leg is buried so high up the calf that the movement is all restricted.

But, Big News, this was the last older toy I had in one of my bins!
It took a lot longer than it should have but I finally got through most of my toys!

okay I might be crazy here, but I think... this isn't just oversized, but stretched. the legs look almost the same, the cobra head is slightly bigger, the robot head is HIGHER, the torso is longer, the shins are longer.. and the rest is the same or only slightly scaled up.

Im not sure if i missed the boat, but ive never seen anyone talk about this guy, i had no idea it existed until i saw him chilling on the pegs at target today

Buzzworthy bumblebee beast alliance scorponok and sandspear

I was immediately taken by how sick of an aesthetic this has, the cool gas mask and googles head, the spikey shoulder pads, the really vibrant green on muted earthy tones, and the sword is metal as fuck looking

Its definitely a baby toy, in line with rid/cyberverse warriors but i really enjoy those, hes got much denser plastic than any of those have had lately, and more detailed paintwork too, but poseability and hollowness are on that level

Sandspear is a decent enough weapon partner, lets him dual wield swords which is cool

The scorpion mode really brings out the green in a cool way, decent sculpting but not much to it, the feet sticking straight up with that big gap sucks, a toe joint would have cleaned it up nicely and added to the robot posing, and no pinching is a huge L for any scorpion mode, but articulated tail is nice, sandspear is also here.

The transformation does however give scorponok double jointed knees which is cool

Really though im all in on that robot mode, its so striking for such a basic figure

the other scorpion is a lot better, but they both have quite dumb tails, and too much 'head' part of what makes scorpions cool is the pincers start right at their face.

I've been checking Wal-Marts for the Wheeljack release so I can call the color variant a different guy altogether. Though, to be honest, these beast weaponizers are the type where you could justify getting two of them for the symmetry they enable. Does make me wonder if we'll get separate Arrowstripe and Chainclaw releases. I got the Prime + Chainclaw pack and have Prime acting as the cart for Beast Combiner Optimus Primal. Pretty pleased with that since I really wanted the Skullcruncher that came with Primal. Primal + Arrowstripe I have on hold from when TFSource had them on sale.

Pfft, I went looking for that awesome little combo pack for weeks during weekend trips. Skipped this weekend and of course they'd have them in store now. No biggie, I think I can get free RedCard shipping or stop next time I'm out.
