What's the reason for the two Starscreams? I can spot some packaging differences but wasn't aware of any variants of that figure.

Starscream was my favourite and he's also a bit rare so when I found one I spent way too much just to get it then found another one later for much cheaper so ended up picking it up too.

As for the boxes I'm not sure, you can see on the other figures even though they are the same class the boxes are a bit different; the figures are exactly the same as far as I know. I'm in the uk so maybe some were for European market hence the 6 different languages.

Yeah, that makes sense. The trilingual (Eng/Sp/Fr) ones look like what I remember from the North American releases way back in the day. Sometimes you see a figure so cheap you can't pass it up. Even though I still have my original, I got a near-complete near-mint Cybertron Optimus for $20 a few months ago.

Yeah, it was a shocking find. Bought it off a collector who didn't really know what he had and was just dumping a ton of UT stuff for cheap. I think he was still stuck in a mindset of 10-15 years ago when nobody really wanted that stuff. It was only missing a missile.

The robot mode is pretty much filler, so I don't think they thought about it beyond trying to keep the look of the spaceship as correct as possible.

I know people keep dumping on her, but I actually kinda like her. Her proportions look awkward standing up straight, but posing her so she hunches over with her knees semi-squatting would make her spindly-ness look creepy and intimidating - perfect for the main ship of the bad guys while contrasting with Ark's bulky frame and heroic posture.
I'm still disappointed she doesn't have her main cannon from the end of Beast Wars, though. Surely they could have thought of some way to make that work - maybe have it split so each half is under her forearms?

Anything can transform with a decent mechanical designer. A major flaw of modern transformers is that somewhere someone decided to stop designing robots and instead started cobbleing together old design elements. So now when something new like this comes around it looks like what it is, a cobbled together mess.

Then you have character designers that think that making a cast of transmutates is a good idea like earthspark.

I want to get into transformers. I had some when I was a kid but they were some cheap bin and had very little detail, for some reason I thought all transformers were like that so I wasn't really interested. I was checking some 52toys like beastbox and got interested in transformers aswell. Where should I start? With the original G1 series? And how about toys, do you just buy what looks cool or do you focus on characters which you like from the shows, comics...?

My advice, don't limit yourself to a theme or else you're going to get frustrated by release drought and insane second hand prices.
My collection started out as fembots, but the current trend of girly-faced manbots as the token fembot effort has caused me to branch out a little.
Might be worth trying to identify a type of toy that appeals most to you and explore the more broad range. For me that ended up being smaller transformers, core or legion glass with the rare good deluxe thrown in.

Could read the comics, there's a shitton of them: two slightly-different continuities from Marvel US and UK, two continuities from Dreamwave, an assload of hardcore-fan-oriented official-fanfiction from 3H and FunPub (this is a loving description, they can be based), and a heaping load of different comics from IDW since 2005 - but mainly a G1-inspired continuity (that's usually divided into three "phases" for easier digestion), and a short-lived total reboot in 2019. But don't discuss the IDW ones unless you want to start flamewars (bitches be autistic, form your own opinions, etc). Oh, there's also quite a few manga, but I don't know at all what to recommend from there, sorry. Anyways, Image/Skybound is literally JUST NOW kickstarting a brand new TF comic universe, so y'could get in on that while it's fresh.

There's also the treasure trove of Japanese shows, which can have some real damn gems, but just make sure to watch them with subs, because even the ones that DID get dubbed were some of the most terribly rushed dubs of all time; even art/animation was unfinished in some. And if not that, then they had weird nonsense localization changes, or nonexistent voice direction, or some other nonsense.
Regardless, my recommended's in order of how much I like them are: TF Micron Legend/Armada, TF Car Robots/RiD2000, TF Galaxy Force/Cybertron, and TF Super-God Masterforce + TF Victory. If you still want more, then The Headmasters and Beast Wars II & Neo could be worth trying. Anyways don't discuss the 2003-2005 animes here neither, because they... also start flamewars easily here. In fact don't discuss transformers at all, leave while you still can you damned fool

(...also watch Rescue Bots. It's well-written and just pretty wholesome and funny)

Nah, IDW Phase 1 is basically just the TF equivalent of Marvel's "Ultimate" comics; a fresh start. Also a good time to mention that TFWiki is your friend for sorting out comics continuity; IDW gets fucking confusing later into Phase 2 (two ongoings at the same time, with many minis and standalones) and especially 3 (in 3 they tried to make a gigantic shared universe in the hardest-to-follow way possible).
Protip, if you wanna read either comic in Phase 2 tho, make sure you at least read "Last Stand of the Wreckers," the 2-issue "Chaos Theory" story from The Transformers (v1), and "The Death of Optimus Prime" as prequels.

I can't be the only one who thinks she looks good? I mean sure she's got somewhat inhuman proportions but I don't think that's a bad thing- she's a colossal (even by TF standards) robot, she doesn't have to just be a squared-off human. Also I like that she has more unusual/alien proportions but is still recognizably feminine.

yeah starting in the 90s, transformers have just been getting way better. lots of bumps in the road, but they are not undetailed bricks anymore. Beast Wars gave us 'hey what if we used lots of ball joints so posability was fantastic' and then once we got into Animated and the movie line, the challenge of adapting those.. questionable art directions ended up making the toys downright brilliant. until some dick was like 'nuu the little kids can't transform them' and they dumbed them down again, but then we pulled out of that. and we're currently in a real severe penny-pinching phase, but it's still good

In case you don't want to waste your time, you're better off avoiding anything related to the Unicron trilogy which is considered the dark ages of Transformer. It consist of 3 different shows that has nothing to do with Transformers other than the name slapped onto it. And since no one ever comes back to them it's not a requirement to watch it at all.

I don't exactly remember how my standards worked as a kid, but when I was little I was amazed by anything doing anything, the robots felt just great no matter what because they were a different shape from the vehicle. Of course I didn't have many of those. then beast wars came out and I was stoked because even before, I preferred animal ones.
I do remember how power rangers mecha kept seeming to go down in quality, becoming brickier over time. i was hugely into those.

Share a 5+ year old figure from your Transformers collection that you still love even now.

Got her from BBTS for $4 back in 2017. Yeah her backpack kibble sucks, but I still adore the rest of her, so much so I didn't bother buying the newer Siege figure.

I just wish I didn't have such a bad paint chipping problem.

I recently got Energon Snowcat as part of a package deal with something I was actually trying to get.

It's in no way a brick, but it's so badly designed that the articulation is basically useless. The thing was just not designed to be stable in either robot or vehicle mode.

UT has no soul, it was made purely by greedy executives to sell toys and the show barely had any substance other than introducing new characters who overpower everyone then jobs to the next new guy. At least G1 in comparison had a proper story structure and portraying how bad the war was to everyone involved, and the toys were simple and didn't need gimmicks to be a fun and playable toy. Something Takara reminded Hasbro when it came to the Classics toyline.

That's what makes it SOUL in the first place. Transformers never had to comply by human logic because they're aliens, they wouldn't know anything about it at first only slowly adapting over time. UT Transformers look like humans who became blocky and assumed a fetal position until they resembled a vehicle. The biggest issue is that those are fucking expensive cars which would eat into the budget. The second is that it isn't really suited for carrying useful items. Normally an SUV or pickup truck would be used for that role, with the fire trucks following behind.

2009 RotF Sideswipe. I always loved his character design and silhouette, and the way the toy's blades autotransform was really unintrusive but super fun. He was one of my favorite toys as a kid, and still is.
Also shoutouts to Animated Prowl and Lockdown, for very obvious reasons. Hell, the entire Animated line, but especially them in particular; SUPER nicely-aged figures.

This is more of a genuine question since I haven't seen it yet myself, but everything I've actually seen of it tells me that it's just a cartoonier and maybe sillier take on the same concept, from literally the same era. I don't immediately see what made it so deserving of such unending ridicule that, to this day, I've never seen a single person giving a genuine opinion on it, trying to meet the show at its own level?
As a sidenote but I've recently read the GoBots stories from FunPub and IDW, and think I kinda love them now from that alone. They just seem like such a novel setup/idea compared to the familiar Transformers plot and characters that keep getting recycled.

Heh. Imagine if GoBots got the UT treatment, having its cartoonier nature fused with the super robot-stylings of the UT shows. It'd be, like... One Piece with robots. Heh.

GoBots was REALLY goofy. But more than that, it was kind of out of fashion. It was just another Hannah-Barbera cartoon. If you've seen Superfriends, you've seen Gobots.
Shows like Transformers and GIJoe might be quaint now, especially after the action cartoon boom of the 90s, and the difference between them and GoBots might seem blurred, but back then the Sunbow cartoons were actually fresh and exciting while Gobots was more of the same shit people got tired of after the 70s.

I think the anon just posted a picture of how Scavenger's chest detail matches the inner chest detail on Inferno, something they didn't need to do since that part is only visible during transformation, and bizarre considering the other corners cut on the toy.
as for what that is, it looks custom painted. you can get a variety of guns as upgrade kits (I'm still holding out for one that has an adapter for classic inferno to hold it too). But sadly none that replace his arms and therefore the crappy ant legs and robot hands.

The head and chest sculpted detail make me think there were plans to remold him into Scavenger, but then it got cancelled, so they just threw the already tooled head with a cheap repaint.

The devs have discussed before how there are often multiple heads designed with each figure just in case, that was the inspiration for galaxy shuttle, i also remember an armada demolishor head being seen during like combiner wars or something

Weve been seeing spare heads in these special releases a lot recently so my guess is the devs are tossing in these extra heads theyve always been making and never using as accessories just for fun since side releases arent as tightly budgeted

as it is, I kind of want one for my regular inferno but his hand peg is on the back of his hand so it wouldn't look right anyway. and I'd feel obligated to paint parts of him to be more show accurate, and there's no way I'm gonna do that to a rare old toy. Have you seen Detritus? He's a repaint of Earth Mode Hound. He's not part of the Junkion weaponizer sub-line despite being from Junkion. Either way Junkasaurus is comprised of just Trashmasters as the torso, Crashbar as the arms and Scraphook/Tow-Line/AxleGrease as the legs.

If you're talking about the completely brown Crashbar as the right arm of Junkasaurus then no, that is just the prototype since Mark doesn't have a second completed Crashbar on him. But maybe? I really don't know much about him/assumed he was a blank junkion slate, mercs can be pretty fun. Aside from a knee-jerk "I hate new thing", my only other issue would be that it's trying to continue forcing/promoting the WFC stuff. But maybe it was genuinely just a neat bonus to acknowledge his status. And you could probably just remove the faction logos if you hated it. Not sure if the thighs and some joints visible in jeep mode are pre-yellowed or just painted that way. He looks like he can pass off as Swindle in jeep mode, and looks still pretty untrustworthy in robot mode, so this isn't bad at all. But I'm someone who's eagerly waiting for Devcon, so take my tastes with a grain of salt.
