>>10476017Some people say pre/post-2000 is a cut-off, but some of the original Star wars sets could reasonably be said to be "classic".
Therefore another marker could be the line between fleshies & yellows. That would incorporate the early SW. A sub-argument could be pupils vs no pupils, but it's pretty much the same switch.
For me, though, while some early SW (single colour Jabba, watto, gammorean guard etc) has sovl, I find the switch from classic castle into fantasy castle, and classic space into overly complex subteam & v2 (e.g. blacktron 2, space police 2 etc) to be a similar demarcation.
So for me, an educated and knowledgeable oldfag with informed taste, the *true* custoff is when "legoland" became "system". And that's a complicated cutoff, as pirate redcoat imperials were System- and some of that stuff is sovl as fuck. But you could reasonably argue that it's not "classic". Fantasy (dragons) castle definitely isn't, and I was there for that too.
So to simplify it:
>Legoland is classic golden age>system (early 90s into early 2000s) is silver age>anything after is the era of licenseshitYes I am aware that early SW is still licenseshit, but it had sovl - important consideration.
And I'm still here now - looking forward to 10320 eldorado, have barracuda bay, lion knights castle, galaxy explorer - there is still good stuff, but goddamn is some of it hot fucking garbage.
