normally japs send it to me via fedex and I can pay online for it since they send me a invoice a few weeks later and I'm fine with that. Most of the time I don't have to pay at all if it's not over 150 dollaridoos. This time the japanese doode chose god knows what and it somehow ended up in the hands of DHL and I never had them deliver to me before and thats the result. Very upsetting

EU laws. A couple of years ago, anything under 25€ I think? Was exempt of any taxes, but even then, a lot of packages with much higher value would go under the radar and you weren't required to pay anything. However that law was changed 2-3 years ago, so now you have to pay for everything that comes from outside the EU, regardless of value.
It gets tasty with correos though, if you order something and you let them do the handling, they will charge you those taxes, plus their handling, plus IVA. Even if it's marked as a gift.

The trick is paying those taxes directly on their ADT postales website as soon as it lets you. That way you won't have to give them extra money for doing their fucking job.

The whole paying extra customs fees on imports really boggles my mind as an American. You(and we) already get taxed on everything. Not sure why there needs to be extra fees added on top. And it sounds like its not even consistent either. Like I just used DHL 2 days ago and ordered like 800 dollars worth of shit from Japan and it got here in a day and a half and no extra fees outside of the rape shipping price
