How did the rockbros do it? It was one of the best original themes lego has had in years, better than Ninjago in my opinion.

It's fine. I like the little rock dudes. Probably could have chosen a more appealing shade of green, and the loss of the giant chrome drills is sorely felt

Still, as far as luridly-colored blue collar worker themes go it's hard to replace Ice Planet in my heart.

for me I just enjoyed how you could get some of the rock monster colors in the smaller sets.
Blue/red/green were all $10 and under sets
and the last ones, neon yellow/orange were at $20/$30 set respectively
Only missing out on the bigfigs on the $35+ windows
simple, effective, and fucking awesome

Lego's design aesthetic fits mining equipment better than any other vehicle type. Cars and planes will always look ugly without a huge piece count while the blockiness looks intentional on these. Only other example I can think of Is the studs on Star Destroyers giving the illusion of greeble. Anyways, It's a real shame the second wave looked so ugly in comparison to the first. They really should have come up with a whole new color scheme (maybe yellow and blue?) instead of trying to add blue and silver on top of orange and lime vehicles. It didn't help that the water spraying vehicles are pretty lame compared to ones with drills, explosives and rotating blades. I hope that those massive technic vehicles will spark some interest in making a third mining series someday
