Mcfarlane use to make top quality action figures but now he sucks.

The main reason for this, is his aversion to metal pin joints. He could be better than all domestic brands if he had metal pin joints

I've also kind of wondered this. They've experimented with some of them, with that recent Mr Freeze, and that leaked Cyborg Superman. Maybe it's a cost thing, and they can't get there without increasing the price.

I mean look, I like McFarlane figures, but paint is already severely lacking on most figures. Cut any more and it'd be nearly unpainted. Maybe more re-use through some generic parts? I'm not sure what the right solution would be if cost was the issue.

Nah, I collected them during the 90s when I was in my late teens, and they definitely had issues.
Out of the box, my Manga Freak's whip arm had a badly assembled joint which fell off almost immediately, but he had 6 arms and the whip arm was the shittest, so I didn't care.
Manga Cyber Violator's hip joints were so weak that they couldn't support his weight.
The Horrid from Dark Ages Spawn wave's wing broke from normal use, not me being rough.
Finally, Raenius's arm snapped off the first time I moved it.
There were other minor issues, like the glue failing on some of the random pieces of garbage on The Heap, but that was easily fixed, but after Raenius, I only bought the occasional figure, and there was always an issue that disappointed me to the point where I just lost interest and focussed on other stuff.
As for your image, Chewie was made with a neck swivel but his head movement was obstructed by his beard, so I can understand a kid being stubborn enough to try to move his head and it snapping.
But Kit Fisto turned out pretty accurate to his death from the novel where Palpatine decapitated him.

sculpts are still detailed, paint is nonexistent, the articulation is awful but at least they move a bit more.
it wasn't worth it imo.

Pins holes are a permanent scar that ruin the sculpt. Missing paint is an easier fix.

So while other companies are charging 37 dollars for a figure that would have been 20 bucks 2 years ago, Mcfarlane has kept there figures in the 20-25 dollar price range.
Im not saying i enjoy the lack of paint ,but honestly you get what you pay for ,and McFarlane makes 20 bucks go pretty far.
At least most of the sculpts can be fixed with just a wash of Nuln Oil

Maybe have higher standards and don't buy botched figures even if they are 25 bucks. That 20 dollar blue beetle isn't missing paint so no reason 25 dollar medieval spawn needs to be, especially when there is no license cost for spawn figs
