yeah totally dude. it is indeed weird, but the transformation seems pretty good, robot mode is great if maybe a little short in the torso..
i wish we could go back to the original transformation for apeformers. yes yes having a posable head is important, but part of what makes gorillas look cool is their heads are so BIG. that means it can't tuck into the body, it should turn into a chestplate or whatever.

I didn't even know Blitzwing was getting one. There were still plenty of ones in Legacy packaging on the shelves next to the one I saw today.

The decision to package-refresh Blitzwing was probably made around the same time he was originally released in Legacy.

That being said, I do agree. Blitzwing (and Galvatron) has been stupidly easy to find so re-issuing him doesn't really help too many.

Galvatron I'm okay with because the Legacy release took off the battle damage, that's an actual difference
Tarantulas... I would have preferred a Dead End, but Tarantulas is still a good toy so whatever I'm glad more people can get him
Core Starscream is kinda strange to see before Thundercracker.
TMII Megatron and Blitzwing I'm neutral on, neither is exactly clogging shelves around here

The big missteps in this whole repackage deal have been ERcee and Seigewave.
I've got a bad feeling about them sating they're going to repack Core Slug and Sludge with Snarl

Can we talk about how fucking stupid the packaging is now? I don't mean the lack of plastic windows, nor the extra ink they spent on bragging about the lack of plastic windows which could have gone toward feeding starving puppies, I mean that I read on the wiki that his packaging gives him a maximal insignia with a slash through it, and it took me fucking MINUTES to actually find his name on the packaging. It's not anywhere you'd expect, it's tiny, off-color, and SIDEWAYS. whyyy would you do this. are you trying to be humble or something? All the years of toy packaging, I don't think I've ever seen something that hides the character's name away as if they're embarrassed of it, while proudly displaying nonsense words like LEGACY EVOLUTION which mean nothing

Package refreshes are good in theory but Hasbro rarely does them well. The only good refresh in recent memory is Galvatron because they used the opportunity to fix an assembly error, and removed the battle damage if that bothered you.
Everything else has been a headscratcher. Why things like Siege Soundwave without the battle damage or an unaltered Earthrise Arcee? Why not something like Siege Apeface with a better white plastic mix or a Netflix Soundwave that (hopefully) won’t yellow? You know, things that could genuinely benefit from a refresh

Can anyone identify which reissue of G1 Optimus this is? I picked him up out of a bargain bin with no accessories.
Comparing him to my Ultra Magnus, which I know to be a newer reissue, he:
Has longer smokestacks
His tires seem to be a much harder rubber, not as pliable
There were Autobot badges on his shoulders which are gone now
In truck mode, he has a hole on top of the cab, where UM has a rubsign
Any help would be appreciated

A case of poor planning or poor communication then. SG Soundwave came out, what, 4 months later? Hasbro were aware when the Walmart exclusivity deal would end and they still went ahead with the refresh.
Regardless, I still question the decision to refresh Siege Soundwave at all. Was anyone desperate to buy that figure again? Is there anyone who owns Siege Apeface who wouldn't at least consider purchasing a replacement with a better white/no battle damage?

There's a leader Soundwave listing next year with no series prefix so it's likely a brand new G1 mold. My guess is Siege Soundwave was just to justify selling Rumble (blue) and likely Frenzy (red) and having something compatible to pair with in the meantime.

Apparently, we fi ally have confirmation from Hasbro on Brave repaints. Hasbro/Takara can't make them since the rights to those designs were given to the animation studio.

I'm assuming that as long as characters like Goryu, and Red Geist don't deviate too much from their anime designs, they're allowed to make toys.

You pic got me thinking that Armada Megatron could've been a better recipient of the retool.
Just change the sculpt, turn the pylons into samurai armor and leave the turret as is like in DNA Susanoo.

I might get that thing too. I'm perfectly fine with Bludgeon being huge.

Leaders having package refreshes seems really bizzare.
I get why from a budget standpoint so they don't have to make an entire new leader figure, but they also move the slowest since they're the most expensive pricepoint on the shelf.

Wouldn't it be better to refresh two of the in-demand smaller class figures instead of one leader? like some of the stunticons or Tarn who they would know would be among the more popular figures.

The best way I can describe /tfg/ is the fucking Stunticons, all of us are eccentric in some way ( Doomers like Deadend, some Paranoid like breakdown, others cocky like Dragstrip or straight up insane like Wildrider)

Don't usually care for the boxes but he looked kinda nice in the blue deco one.

Gotta say I prefer the Twincast deco, the Blue, Yellow, Red and Black just look real nice to me. Even the slight use of the metallic Light Blue in the shoulders is really appealling, I wish they used it more.
I'm not sure if the grey used is the same as the original Blaster's but it just looks better here if it is, makes the grey look boring on the other versions of the mould.

If I had to only get one version of the mould I'd definitely get this instead of OG Blaster or Shattered Glass.

It's funny how its all colours that can help a mould stand out.
I have Metalhawk next to Twincast and while I love holding and transforming MH he visually is just not up to snuff.
The Dark Blue and Red are fine, it's just the meh Mustard Yellow and boring Grey that let the mould down. You could even argue it's down to the distribution of those colours, I could see him looking better if those blander colours were more seperated from each other.

I absolutely LOVE that they made him like soundwave, and the powermaster engine blocks being like tapes. I think that was a really smart design.

Yeah that and Hasbro probably seems averse to adding a second figure because it might compromise the main figure or something I don't know. The Ark is the last one to come with a second bot and he does feel like effort was split into two to make both him and Mainframe resulting in the Ark feeling meh. And now Metroplex doesn't come with his Minicon, none of the Armada updates do nor does the Nemesis come with anyone. As for someone who will point out the Targetmasters like Pointblank and Needlenose, Pointblank is compromised as hell and Needlenose's Targetmasters are nothing more than just guns with a hinge and sculpted detail to make them look humanoid so its a different scenario.

Yeah same, they made Rumble into a Core Class release and he's as tall as an average Minicon is so I don't know why they won't do it. Other than the fact most if not all the members of the production team are pretty much just G1 fans and haven't really gone through much of Armada. A lot of people these days just see Minicons as things used to activate gimmicks and since the activated gimmicks are gone the Minicons become useless. Which is fucking false because Minicons were made as steroid patches, so just imagine a big bot grabbing a Minicon and slapping it onto any part of his body to get stronger. Better if that Minicon turns into a weapon so now the big bot has a mounted weapon. They did that with the not!Headmaster Primemaster in POTP so just do it again.

I just realized if we ever get transmetal rattrap they'll make him core, because he's too small for a modern deluxe. and that'll compromise the fuck out of him. all the transmetal characters got slightly bigger each season, but tm2 megatron was just made barely taller than regular megs, so that is clearly not happening, we're getting size classes and that's it.

We are getting deluxe sized minibots, and most of them suck, either hollow oversized core figures like cosmos, unnecessary partsforming on the cars or bendy trucks, so far only Warpath and Brawn are good updates.

I have Optimus already and am just waiting on Megs. Optimus is really great. The core bot mode is just so good and chunky. The Super Mode is great too but I just love regular Optimus. Just waiting to get Megs from BBTS. I'd order him now if he was in stock somewhere else.

Siege Soundwave was universally reviled due to the battle damage paints. To the point that people refusing to buy him was the chief reason why Hasbro slowly backed away from the battle damage paint shit and started re-release figures without it.

Problem is, in the meantime, they released a battle damage free RETOOL of the mold that could turn into a tape deck and then fucking made that figure a Walmart exclusive that had a blink and miss release due to COVID. So fans now wanted THAT mold re-issued instead since that was superior to the Siege cybertron mode Soundwave.

They waited way too fucking long to reissue Siege Soundwave minus the battle damage and didn't give any real incentives (like including the equally insanely underproduced Ratbat and Frenzy Siege figures) for people to buy it after rendering the figure passe with the release of the Netflix remold.

Overall a step back from back from train #3
The transformation is the most sensible so far, but that's probably largely due to a whole chunk of the train partsformng off
I notice a few spots where they seem to have deliberately left out pegs or ports that may have helped lock the panels in robot mode together better in order to preserve the exterior of the train
The shoulders are too many hinges stacked on top of each others
And they went back to using clear plastic on hinges, namely the two splayed out parts of the back pack

Nope, by the time the 2 MtB Primes released the KO companies were too busy with MPM-4 & gave up with the leader class. Both the DotM & RotF versions are great & you can't go wrong with either.

I just can't justify spending $90 on a single toy, Armada Optimus should be like $60-$70 to be fair to me. And Armada Megs should be $40 max instead of $55, especially with all those removed or simplified gimmicks making him a pretty basic transformer in the end.

Speaking of, do we know if it's possible to mod Armada Megatron's turret to freely spin 360? It's so garbage that they limited it just so you cant give him a willie; yeah thanks for gimping his tank mode, assholes.

Optimus is really a great toy. He was worth the money to me. Pulse ended up having Megs in stock so I ordered him. Can't wait to get him. Armada was my jam back when I was 12. Still kinda unsure about Starscream and Hot Shot though. My clTF collection is mostly G1 inspired since those are what associate with TFs the most. I was never into Beast Wars as a kid for whatever reason. But I'm definitely cool with throwing in Armada Optimus and Megatron.

This gets me curious about what rules ppl have about buying up figs that they're on the fence about.
Do you guys look at new reveals individually and compare them to older releases or do you go by size class and limit how much you'd spend per size class?

Personally I've gone with the latter so far, I reckon I've done pretty well getting things for under retail and have surprised myself with TF's I thought I wouldn't like but ended up enjoying immensely, like animated Prowl. The inverse has happened too though, thinking of Shrapnel as a recent example. More hits than misses, some I'm still not so sure about.
For those that end up on the wrong side of that fence, do you often sell them on or just accept the loss and hide them in the corner of your collection?

Fair enough. For those that have a cross-mainline collection I can see how waiting so long for a character to get made, you'd just want to secure them in your collection asap.
I try my best to get them under RRP because they can be so hit or miss but mainly due to Aus retailers hiking up their prices way too much in my opinion.

Aus RRP is usually Deluxe = $35AUD, Voyager = $50, Leader = $80-90
My limits are Deluxe = $25AUD, Voyager = $40, Leader = $50-60

I've found the Commander class figures to be the most "accurate" to their asking price.

They're focusing on beast only characters. And Skullcruncher seems to be the only G1 bot with a sorta animalistic mode who made it to the mainline toyline. I predict the next Beast Masters release will be Chainclaw and Arrowstripe released individually. I would certainly like to have more Chainclaws without needing 2 or more Optimus attached to it.

No you weren't. My spoiler pack Siege Nemesis has the sword - hence why I posted it to begin with. In addition to having ALL of the other Nemesis Prime's accessories (including the Ion Blaster), he also comes with three Energeon cubes and a redeco'd Slitherfang as a shield.

wasn't super sure how to get the side measurement so I just went from one extreme to the other, being the chest/grill to the cab roof.

Fun how close G1 Hound and movie Strongarm are
Ironhide really is just a jazzed up version of the Siege/ER version. But he at least has the mass in plastic to justify the voyager price
SS Ratchet by sort of the same token is just a slightly improved version of DotM Ratchet
Twitch is better than I was expecting. Some of her tolerances are weird though

I wonder if G2 Volcanius would look any better.

Also g2 dinobots were the only one I had as a kid so I love this and wish they got modern versions. Its crazy to me we are getting a canceled g2 Grimlock before a regular g2

You're in the minority if you don't like Waspinator, apparently. Allegedly the only reason he survived the end of s1 instead of Terrorsaur and Scorponok is because of his status as a fan favorite.
Terrorsaur is probably my second favorite Pred but I don't think I'd trade him for Waspinator.

Totally a you problem, dude. So long as you don't live somewhere with high humidity and aren't leaving your figures in direct sunlight at all times, you shouldn't be seein any color changes. My Bee looks the same as he did when I got him - and so does my Siege Megatron, Kingdom Cyclonus, and pretty much every other character I own that people keep bitching about yellowing from. Hell, I've got Transmetals that are over 20 years old and have no signs of flaking, either. This is totally an environmental thing, and not a guarantee for everyone who owns the figure.
