Make the bricks less expensive then. I used up a lot of valuable limbs and connector pieces, and technic parts in my latest Bionicle moc and a bin of more parts to replenish it is like 50 bucks for what will most likely be crappy pieces

The real message of the lego movie was anti themes.
The AFOL wants to have coherent genre based themes, whereas the kid wants everything to be a gonzo fantasy kitchen sink.
That's why we have Dreamzzz and Ninjago instead of Ice Planet or Adventurers. Kids now are also just brain damaged by bugman parenting that they won't play with any toy that isn't part of a larger IP.
The generic nature of themes like pirates and classic was part of the creative freedom. Now you get Ninjago where every set has 27 seasons of lore behind it.

You missed the point so fucking hard. The issue is that the dad treats his legos like any ordinary model kit. Build thing, glue it together, sit in the basement collecting dust. But actually you are supposed to PLAY with your legos. Enact out a grand adventure with your kids. Give your figs and builds personality. Build some goofy friends and vehicles for your characters. Most of the people in the dads lego city are NPCs because he didn’t give them any personality

The movie doesn't reflect Lego's views as a company. Obviously it's an official product and was approved by TLG but it's not like the CEO of Lego wrote the script. Just look at the "Everything is Awesome" song from the movie. It's clearly poking fun at mindless consumerism and adherence to the status quo. Whoever's currently in charge of Lego's marketing probably isn't aware of that, considering that it's pretty much the unofficial brand slogan now. And the irony of the pride flag set being named after the song is clearly lost on them.
