Since there has been no Street Fighter thread for the past week, I decided to make this fucker myself.

What are your hopes for SDCC 2023? Which characters would you like to get announced for wave 3 of Street Fighter and Mega Man? Which new line would you like to get announced?

As for Street Fighter, I would love for Blanka, Honda, Guile or Cammy to be announced. The latter because I want to see nutjobs all over the world lose their fucking minds when they show her classic costume.

I think we'll get one of the remaining Mega Man 1 masters at least but I think the other two are going to be from different games.
I think the guy behind most of it said that there is an "unexpected" character in the wave.

this is the question that I cant get out of my head. JADA is as much of a wild card as Lanard is. You can never really predict their next move. Even their food mascot line could go anywhere. My safe guess is that they'll produce another Capcom IP figure line. Though I hope its another niche appeal wild card line nobody's expecting.

I'd rather have them complete the SF2 era first but I know they said it was coming but with the hints Juhn gave (something animated from the last 5 years that's toyless atm and that will look cool enough to want the figures even if you don't know about the IP), I can't think of anything.

I guess that settles it for my safe bet. The hint doesnt narrow things down at all despite that. The 'recent past' could be anywhere from 10 to 30 years ago.

I just don't see it being anything interesting because he also implied many people wouldn't really be familiar with it but would find the designs cool. Fuck if I know what that means. Invincible or Voltron would have been one guess but I dunno. Castlevania probably also doesn't apply.

Yeah, the official lore is that Light built Rock, Roll and Proto Man plus the MM1 bosses, and Wily stole the robots and reprogrammed them for evil. He didn't build his own until MM2.
In the end credits of MM3, they do the rundown of all the robots Light created, and you see it in their serial numbers.
Proto, Rock, Roll and the 6 bosses are DRN 00-08 (Dr Right Numbers because Japan can't into L) and in Mega Man 2 it switches over to DWNs (Dr Wily Numbers)

I'll fuck you with a pole. I was stuck with SF2 even though I wanted to have Alpha 2 as a kid. Only time I played another SF game prior to 99 was when my cousin gave me SF2 Turbo which didn't even have Fei Long and the other guys. So the only times I saw him were in Alpha till the early 2000s when I first found out about him, Cammy and Co. being in SSF2. Of course, you were Mr. Smartypants as a kid who knew everything

I want battle network and legends figures more than anything but it's my own fault I missed out on the 4 inch nel figures they made. I was lucky enough to find Dark Rockman.exe for more than half off this year though so Im happy. I dont feel like begging for those series to get toys either the classic designs are amazing and I want the line to keep focused so it's successful. Pretty sure their choices made the line go tits up anyways.

In the 90s? Not as much as you think, if you lived in the two-thirds that fell under small towns or you were too poor to get cable before the internet came around you saw nothing. Back in the 90s the closest town to me was Green Bay about an hour away, half the towns around me of 10-20K people didn't have more than a Walmart that only carried Nintendo stuff and they had at best a small two-shelf case "full" of games.

When the sega kid showed up to my school everyone lost their mind.

I hope they take the PR lightning collection route of giving us assorted robot masters and not obsess over "finishing" a particular game right away. I lived in or visited most european countries in the 90s (because of my dad's work and having family pretty much everywhere) and everywhere was just like I described. I mean, I lived most of my life in a small town (10~12K people) and we had like 6 or 7 places selling them. Also they were like 20 vg magazines releasing every month with news, cheatcodes, and shit. I even remember buying my first NES game paid with my own money in a simple gas station in Luxembourg.

I hope they do that AFTER finishing the first game. Truth be told, my only reason for even getting hung up on finishing the first one is just because they already dedicated two waves to it and are almost done, so they might as well just get it over with.
If wave one was like Quick Man and Shadow Man and wave 2 was Pharaoh Man and Sheep Man "finishing any particular game" wouldn't necessarily be a concern for me.

I lived in a 25k city and literally one department store sold a few videogames while there was one videogame shop that had a really weird sortiment of games. I get why they put in a repaint Mega Man... but that's going to be brutal to have filler figures in a series that only has 3 figures per wave. If it was 5 or 6 I'd be okay with it. Even if it's every other wave having a MM repaint it's going to take them forever to release characters. Here's hoping both SF and MM sell enough to bump up the waves to at LEAST 4 figures at a time.

If you are resorting to the fact that the Internet was the basis for getting news about Super Street Fighter Turbo (which came out in 94), then I just don't know what to tell you. Don't be so pessimistic. I do think characters from 3 are a possibility because of the fact that the other games have redundancies. However, I do think that characters like Adon, Rolento, Gen, Dan, Sakura, etc. are more likely to get figures first

And i never said it was niche. Maybe for adults it was niche, in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, but for kids? 99.9999999% of kids in first world countries grew up with video game and were bombarded with video games all day long. If a kid didn't play video games, he was made fun of and left out. So even these misery kids were bombarded with video game society.
Today video games are only mainstream because the kids from the 70s, 80s, and 90s grew up to be adults who didn't stop playing video games. And kids today continue playing and being bombarded with video games, even if they're mormons and luddites, because all the other kids are talking about them and bullying you if you don't play. Kids today aren't any more into video games than kids from decades ago, because video games permeated kids interests since the 70s.

So if you're not Chinese or a poo, then are you from some commie hellhole, and didn't get new shipments or video games/arcade cabinets for most of the 90s because your neighbor was too busy genociding your other neighbor?

I figured that Guts Man and Bomb Man might be left for a future release as the "deluxe figures", hopefully sooner than later. Some solid choices for MM2 Robot Masters, although I'm not really feeling Rock's hair. Maybe it's the angle, but there's a specific way that the hair is usually depicted in.

Despite that, I'm glad to see the line getting some love, and I'm ready for those second wave preorders.

Have they mentioned what the case situation is with these yet? Like it is it a case of one character, 2 of each, 3 MegaMan 2 Iceman 1 Fireman etc.

Nah, I think it's all good. The reason why Guts and Bomb Man weren't announced is probably because Juhn wants to show that it's not only the robot masters from the first game who are getting their attention. Imo, it's a good move even if some completionists are pissed. Honestly don't get the negativity because it's pretty certain the line will continue given the hype of so many people out there. Never seen so much love being shown by fans with any other toy lines so far.

I don't focus too much on SDCC exclusives but I remember the Hellfire Club box, the Collector + Grandmaster set, and the Spider-Man SSDC set from 2015 or 2016 being available locally. It doesn't happen in many cities for sure but I rarely have problems with these type of things. Plus, there's always the internet if there's issues with exclusives

I may be wrong here but the mainstream companies like Hasbro and McFarlane really don't have a consistent quality when it comes to face sculpts or better yet paint. The recent Black Widow (and the grey one with short hair from a year or two ago) have great paint applications but some like Sue Storm look like dogshit. I also wonder what exactly you refer to when saying "at this price point" because prices have been increasing, especially at Hasbro, so one cannot simply say that the price point is the same when you could make a point about Jada offering a way better bang for your buck, even regardless of some of the face sculpts.
Another important point I would add to the mix is that Jada is completely new to the action figure business AND still manages to produce solid-quality figures, matching or even surpassing the quality of companies who have been at it for several years

Listen, just because it looks better than it does now doesn't mean it looks good. Just that it looks even worse now. They were supposed to have improved it, but made it look worse. I don't even understand how or why. Ryu and Fei Long look great!
