The more I read up on Bionicle, the more I get pissed.

I was a kid when they came out. The 'comics' and website were above my head at the time.

They had everything; and they threw it away like a cheap toy.

The mask of light movie was a gold mine for them. If they made a series like Ninjago out of it they would have been rolling in cash.

We have all these technic pieces and all Lego can seem to do is make fucking cars no one likes or cares about other than the afro-centric collector who is selling airjordans and Legos on stockx and turbo autists that collect cranes.

Frankly I'm surprised megablok never took up the mantle and made a Bionicle knockoff series. Hell, they have the halo license they could have done buildable Spartans.

The stores in my area, if they fucking order CFM at all, never restock so I'm really going to have to rethink how I buy these things moving forward because if I can't feel out the entire line and have to buy them in bulk I don't know if they'll be there when I have time to go back. I can't imagine I'm the only one in that situation either.

I was hoping we'd get a CFM wave. I think like two waves+CFM would flesh out the Sonic world enough. At least there are some good bootlegs of the Sonic cast if they don't make a character you want.

The t-rex head fits a shark, but it looks kind of retarded.

Unfortunately a shark head cannot fit on a t-rex because of the way the rex is shaped around the connection point (the shark mouth is too small to fit around it).

I think classic themes like castle, pirates, space, etc do appeal to kids today but it's not that simple. The market has changed and Lego relies heavily on licensed themes these days. Major hollywood franchises and video games, titans like Marvel, Star Wars, Minecraft, Mario, etc. Those are things every kid knows and likes, no advertisement needed whatsoever because the brand sells itself.
If Lego wants to compete against those entertainment giants with their own IPs, they decided they need to make their own television series, their own movies and their own video games or otherwise kids won't care. I don't think this is true but what do I know. It's funny though, Hidden Side sold very poorly and Vidiyo was just a straight up catastrophic failure. At this point if Dreamzzz fails, I think it might be over for original themes forever since they said they spent 5 years developing that theme and it was the most costly one yet.

Imagine a LEGO setting that's literally just Boys vs Girls, each pitting their own imagination against each other. I just want to see how underhanded and fucked up kids can get when it comes to warfare. Non-binaries would quickly become stigmatized as spies and traitors.

They probably could, but I think they would shy away from making them a distinct faction next to the Imperials/Pirates. I can imagine the "This normalises colonial attitudes blah blah blah" spiel. Either the Islanders and Europeans would be set up to be enemies ("You want kids to play the colonial oppressor!") or they would deliberately portray them as being friendly and cooperating with each other ("You're whitewashing history and making colonialism seem good!"). There's no winning move.
Mouseana doesn't have any colonial stuff, just Polynesians doing their own thing. There's Avatar too but the humans are unambiguously the bad guys in the source material and the aliens are explicitly fictional so no backlash.

help with finding this guy? been autistically scrounging through a minifig catalog trying to find one I had as a kid that I thought was really cool and I've come to the conclusion it was probably this body with a different head (printed hair, kinda anime though not full exo-force) slapped on top.

Hey, I just got my hands on my legos from my folks after a long stint, and I want some advice.
Firstly, what should I do with the loose bricks? I have roughly 3 totes of loose bricks in various quality, most of them are alright but I was debating on either trying to just sell them off as bulk, or giving them away to the elementary school near me.
Second, any advice on cleaning up sets? I have a dozen or so sets that are put together but have a lot of gunk built up on them, and was gonna just go over them with bacteria wipes or q-tips.

Take all the sets apart, put all the loose pieces (including the other loose bricks) into a tub of hot water with dish soap (not hand soap) and soak them for an hour, then rinse them (use a colander or other strainer to make sure you don't lose tiny pieces down the drain) and sort by type, starting with gross categories (bricks, plates, minifig stuff, etc) and refining your sorting within those categories.

Don't sort by color, and don't give away any of your pieces because eventually you will wish you still had them.

Do not use hot water. Use warm or cold water with mild soap and rub the pieces with your fingers or use textured soft rubber gloves. Avoid placing bricks with stickers in there. Basically just hand wash them and lay the pieces out on paper towels or regular towels so they soak up any moisture (usually I cover them). I also tap the pieces gently so water drops eject from the bottom. The reason I wouldn't recommend hot water is becuase it could soften some of the plastic. Maybe the water needs to be really hot to damage the Lego but I entirely avoid hot water.

Also yeah, take apart all the sets but maybe take a pic so you know what set it is. You can always look up a manual online to rebuild a set.

Any bricklink sellers here? What is the best way to load a bunch of minifigs into my store inventory quickly? Do I made a spreadsheet with the minifig number and then upload it? Then download my store invebtory into a third party software like brickstore to automatically set the prices?

Knex really went downhill once they switched from proper cross tie rollercoaster track to that cheap bendy hotwheels track system. I had so many screamin serpent and rippin rocket sets in order to make room-sized coasters but they became so much harder to find when the switch happened and the knex coaster community gobbled up the remaining sets. I sold all of mine for about 1k almost 15 years ago. I still don't have the space but my hoarder-brain kind of regrets it now.

I don't know what knex's design bandwidth was like at the time, but I think if they leaned harder into more advanced thrill ride mechanisms, robots, and vehicles instead of developmental-age stuff with kid knex they would still be around today. There's just no competing with Lego at the 1-5yo age range.

If any hipster collector is looking for these, they're uncommon but will sometimes go cheap, less than retail used (accounting for inflation). Just keep an eye out for Ebay listings. It's not like Bionicle where titans & rahi are outrageous due to demand. I managed to snag the Tarakava-looking boxing set with the purple and teal bigfigs for $50.

Lego has reached a point where remakes of sets (that aren't collector's edition remakes) do nothing for me. Tie fighters peaked with the Solo version, etc, etc. Would adult collectors even buy these if not for the new Minifigures?
